...

With 30K, i would buy a hugh amount of solid state memory for that almost instant on capability, much faster than anything a 320U SCSI 15K system can do, and in no way am i saying that is slow.

Maybe you "gotta wonder," because you are interested, but the rest of us can just set it aside as a joke.

I'm still working on it doing a big ass wishlist at Newegg. So far, I'm just shy of $17,000...on one system that includes 16GB of RAM and lots of pr0n...err valuable hard drive space...

can you even find a motherboard on newegg that supports 16GB of ram?

Not to mention SLI...

Practical it is not...

Insane...entirely.

I just wish there was a quad or higher system with some x16 PCIe slots for even more of this type of insanity.

I've hit $20k, but I'm also getting into the accessories to go with this build.

In reality if I had 30k I'd build 12 $2000 gaming rigs and a nice LAN gaming room in my house.

But just for fun..

puckin eh master H thats alotta work for a joke thread

yea, if i had 30K on a computer id just get like, the gigabyte Qual SLI royal mobo, get 4 7900GTX,s and plug in 8 really really nic 25" monitors, that autta take 30K. i could spend more if i wanted too, (heh heh 8 dell 30"s).

If I have 30k for a system, of course I'm gonna go with something that's utterly ridiculous...that's half the fun.

Unless this bikini blonde is making me a nice steak dinner (complete with sides), serves it to me nekkid, and then finishes with a neck massage.. I'll tell her to GTFO and get me some SLI.
Who wants a neck massage. I'll take a johnson massage
ribs

I'd have a nice dual proc machine with 8gigs of memory and then this:

HP StorageWorks XP12000 Disk Array

# Reliable: The XP12000 provides extreme reliability with no single-point-of-failure and redundant hot-swappable components. Non-disruptive online upgrades ensure that data is always available.
# Available: All XP12000 components are redundant and hot-swappable to provide extreme reliability and availability, including: disk drives, processors, I/O interfaces, power supplies, batteries, fans, and control processors. Array-to-array local and remote data copying enables multi-site disaster tolerance.
# Scalable: The XP12000 scales from 9 to 1152 disk drives for over 332 TB of internal capacity, 32 PB of external capacity, 256 GB of cache--all online with no interruptions to applications and without requiring a forklift upgrade.
# Performance: The XP12000 uses an advanced crossbar fault tolerant architecture resulting in outstanding levels of random and sequential I/O operations for database, OLTP, Oracle, SAP, and Exchange workloads.
# Heterogeneous: The XP12000 supports multiple operating systems, including HP-UX, Windows, Linux, Mainframe, Tru64, OVMS, NonStop, Solaris, AIX, NetWare, and IRIX.
# Open Connectivity: The XP12000 supports Fibre Channel, FICON, and ESCON connectivity
# Flexible: The XP12000 supports a mixture of disk drives configured as RAID 1 (2D+2D), RAID 5 (3D+1P, 7D+1P), and RAID 6 (6D + 2P).
# Virtualization: Multiple arrays and hundreds of terabytes can be managed from a single station by existing staff, with no additional resources.

24x dual xeon servers.. plus a 48 port cisco 3500 series full gigabit.. And I would be happy.

Why would I need a uber rig myself... or at least a new one, mine is fine :p
