System builders will be able to purchase the new AM2 processor starting on May 15th

all other AM2 processors are officially under embargo until June 6, 2006.

major OEMs like HP, gateway, and boutique builders like Alienware, voodoo, falcon, velocity micro, monarch, etc
 
Nice to see some Semprons on the list, wonder how well they're do once OCed. I guess I'll hold off on upgrade from socket A until June then.

Duh :D They better pick up the performance from what ive seen on toms. If its anything what we saw on toms, amd is in for rude awakening.
 
yeah, id expect them to be pretty expensive. Can you guys reassure me that im makng the right decision to go s939?

they are the same price beacuse no one really expects there to be a performance improvement. For the most part AM2 looks very similar to S939 so motherboard manufactuers shouldnt have to much work to do. But of course the first couple will be buggy im sure. AM2 looks like it could be a decent platform. 6-12 months after its release.

I get the feeling AM2 may offer AMD more options than just DDR2. I just dont think were going to see them just yet.

The only tangible benefit I see. Is now AMD has no reason to not fix the 4 sticks of memory problem in their memory controller. I beleive 2gbx4 or atleast 1gbx4 may be possible without sacrificing speed. But this is just my theory, for now.

huh? whoever said we had to sacrifice speed? on a normal dfi nf4 ultra-d btw, no mods ;)

What options or benefits do you think the AM2 offers them? Besides the memory!
 
CPU prices seem to be about the same, but mobos will probably be more expensive. Also, DDR2 is more expensive than DDR1 memory.
 
when will we see 65nm a64s approx., these AM2s listed are still 90nm right? I will just wait until 65nm versions to decide between conroe and am2. One thing we still don't know about conroe is how good it will oc, maybe it's not good at all, it's all wait and see... If 65nm AM2 parts are as good as Intel counterparts I don't see a reason why they shouldn't oc like crazy. Imagine dual core opterons @ 4GHz, DROOL

Not sure where you get that from, DDR2 667 is cheaper than DDR 400 everywhere I have seen.
Keep in mind I am looking at the average joe normal modules, not Kingston/Corsair Hypersonic X DDR ULTRA CAS -1 . 1.1.1.1 with illuminated heat shields

Those are the Windsor, Orleans and Manilla Cores for 90nm.
Athlon 64x2, Athlon 64, Sempron 64.

In H1 2007 you will have Brisbane, something, Sparta for 65nm.

However by the times those hit Conroe will have scaled up at least 1 grade in speed. As well, AMD hasn't shown us that it will ramp clockspeed from the get go of the process either.
 
Sikpupi: yeah, DDR 667 seems to be about the same price as ddr400. I was comparing DDR800 vs DDR400, since AM2 is reported to support it.
 
Yes but that DDR2 800 isn't officially released yet (I don't think so anyway)
Hopefully it won't be too expensive when it is officially out. Just in time for Conroe :)
