BenQ FP202W or Viewsonic VX2025WM ?

Hello all,

I want to make the jump to a 20.1 WS with the new rig I'm putting together. I've narrowed it down between the BenQ FP202W and Viewsonic VX2025WM. Both screens seem to have decent reviews, and both have similar shortcomings (lack of imputs, adjustable stand etc.) and both can be had for $499 Canadian. Their specs seem quite similar also, except the Viewsonic has a 800:1 contrast ratio vs. the 600:1 of the BenQ.

Can anyone give me a good reason to go with one monitor or the other?

Having no experience with the BenQ, and going on name and recognition only, I would go with the VS, that and I own the VS and love it. :p

That’s what I was thinking as well. I'm leaning towards the VS right now since it is a 'better' name, and I also prefer its appearance. I'm just wondering if the BenQ has any advantages over the VS.

The vx2025wm is less of a risk since there is so much info and many posts about it. Lots of feedback and almost all of it good. I am satisfied with mine but I have never seen the BenQ.

i urge you to check out that review. it's actually a "shootout" that includes both of the models you listed. it should give you some decent information concerning your two choices.

*hint*... they liked the VS TONS better.

here's a review sparks posted up in another thread recently:

with both displays at the same price point, i think the choice is clear, but check it out and see for yourself

Just finished reading the shootout. Thankyou! it was exactly the kind of review I was looking for! The VS is looking pretty good right now, considering its the cheapest 20.1" around in Canada :)

i have the BenQ FP202W and absoluty love it..... imo that review is bs

I'm sure the BenQ is very good; I've read many good reviews for it. The important question id whether it is better then the VS..

Any other Benq owners here that have actually compared their monitor to th VS??

Interesting link.

Yeah, the BenQ is not only TN, but it is the same panel as the 2012w which that review really seemed to dislike.

Maximum PC gave the Benq FP202W a horrible review while I've heard great things about the VX2025.

sadly the BenQ FP202W is an 8m Chunghwa Picture Tubes TN Film panel, whereas the Viewsonic VX2025WM is using AU Optronics' P-MVA panel. This will offer wider viewing angles, deeper black depth, and smoother movie playback than you could expect from a TN Film panel. The BenQ is (at least over here in the UK) overpriced imo considering it is a TN Film panel

VX2025 it is then! I was looking at it at the Ottawa Bestbuy, and it looked decent; although I couldn't really judge the PQ since it was being fed a crappy analog signal. They were selling it for $649.99 CAN which is crazy when its available online for $150 less. Anyway, I think I'll take advantage of Bestbuy price match and get them to match the price and take of 10% of the difference, making it about $485 :)

I don't see how anyone can trust this review, when they can't even get the facts straight. They say "The FP202W is the only monitor here to have height adjustment ".

Well that is totally false. I own this monitor and it does NOT have a height adjustment. And unlike the review, it DOES have good black shades. I've been VERY happy with this monitor.

Apparently the FP202W is a TN based panel... meaning poor viewing angles and 6-bit colour depth. That's enough to steer me away.

The benq is an 8 bit monitor.

I received an email from Benq Technical support, when I asked about this before. Here is their exact reply back to me.

quote
"The FP202W uses a TN panel with 8-bit drive giving full 16.77 million colours. Dithering only achieves 16.2 million colours."
endofquote

edit: Funny how soon as I post this comment about 8bit here, then someone goes and posts on Newegg that its only 6bit and gives it a negative review.

I just read this review also, and that is even more BS than the link posted here. I think these guys are paid by companies to write bad reviews of competitors.

The Maximum PC article complaints were just plain blatant lies.

Funny how soon as I post about this monitor in this thread, someone posts another false statement on Newegg claiming the monitor is only 6bit. Yet pretends he thinks its a great monitor, and only gives it 3 stars.... yeah right.

I know for one thing if any of this bs was true, I wouldn't have wasted $400 on this monitor, I would have sent it back. Thats how I know the comments in that article are blatant lies.
