Howdy folks,

On the various widescreen monitors out there (preferably the VX2025wm from Viewsonic), is it feasible to get a Component-to-DVI converter to connect an XBOX 360? Does it run well, is quality lost?

I'm close to purchasing the Viewsonic but want to make sure this is something I can do.

Thank you,

i dont know about that but you can use the vga cable with a vga to dvi adapter for the 360.

i can't attest to the quality.. i'd look for a xbox 360 forum and ask there.

Ya, you cannot convert from component to DVI w/o some kind of A/D converter in the middle.

Can you convert from VGA to DVI easily? That doesn't seem right to me....VGA is analog and DVI is digital. The only reason you can easily convert from DVI to VGA, is that your standard video card DVI plug has both the digital *and* the analog pins in place. The DVI to VGA connector just ignores the digital and brings out the analog to the standard VGA pins. My gut feeling is you can't do that easily...unless of course the monitor in question has the analog input pins on its DVI input enabled. I know, for example, that the DVI connector on the Dell 2405 does not even have the analog pins in its connector. In fact, a dvi plug with the analog pins will not even fit in the socket. I couldn't say for other monitors....

Of course, the 2405 does also have a VGA and component input....but anyway...

yeah.. my mistake.. i was thinking of converting from DVI to VGA, not the other way around.

Huh? It's the same thing. DVI is digital, VGA and component are analog. You need some kind of A/D converter for this to work, not just a cable.

Short answer in your specific situation = No

DVI-D = Digital
Component = Analog

The two don't mix. There are other forms of DVI though (DVI-I + DVI-A) but your monitor does not use them. As everyone else here mentioned, you'll have to go the VGA route, which is a superior interface to component anyways.
