Fastest AGP on the Planet

Looks cool but I wouldn't spend €400, which is about $480 (USD).

For $480 you can almost get a x1900XTX or 7900GTX.

Sure you'll have to upgrade the rest of your system but it's probably due for an upgrade anyhow :D

About fucking time, fed up of this "omg pci express upgrade to it or die bla bla bla lick my cornhole" bs. Its probably being made just to shift excess 7800gt cores but it's a really good upgrade for agp users.

it's being pushed because it's a new technology, and it does the same job as AGP but faster and cheaper (once you get to high performance), if you want to stay oldschool be my guest, but the express lane will get you there faster. You can still survive in online games with an AGP card, but once the dual core GPU's start hitting the market and games actually catch up to the technology, AGP's will totally get kicked off the shelves and into the can with its friends SDRAM, 300w PSU and 1GHZ CPU.

I might try this, just as a stopgap/toy (am on a AGP 6800GT(all stock) now), cause those pre-pre-views of Conroe made me postpone a new build.
I opted to wait for Conroe and R600/G80 depending on wich one appeals to me.
I have emailed my usual dealer and inquired about the possibilities of me getting such a Gainward card from him.
If that fails, I will look around elsewhere(in DK)...
That way this aging rig, will make for a suitable 2nd LAN PC when I do a new build.

Terra - I will return when I have more info :)

Agreed... Walk into any computer store around here and it's virtually impossible to find an AGP motherboard. It just doesn't make any sense to spend US$500 on something like this.

nice...gonna bring in some cash for them but i still think the price is absurd...but as we know they can do that seeing as its the fastest agp card around

Another card to prove that 8xAGP would have been sufficient for another few years. (besides SLI / Crossfire support for PCIe)

If new games finally start coming out with real multi-threading then I could probably keep using my processors for another few years. Of course I’d be stuck with my AGP slot, so its nice to know what my options are.

The box in the inquirer piece says 7800GS AGP but there is a PCI Express logo on the box also. Oh well. There's an Ebay seller in the UK that sells a lot of Gainward cards. I sent him a message asking if he can get these. Anyone want to buy a BFG 7800GS OC? :)

Edit: Oh I know why PCI-X is on the box. Because there's a PCI-X to AGP bridge on the card. Duh!

I guess Gainward is only doing a limited run of 2500 of the cards, and one UK store has alreday been alotted 900 of them.

Kind of a real bugga that the card I have been waiting for for about a year finally comes out and there is no way for me to go out and buy it. :(

There's always the Gainward Blitz (I think?) 6800GS AGP. That thing clocks over 500/1400 (no, I'm not lying) easily with stock cooling and uses 1.2ns chips. Go Google it and see what I'm talking about.

8 less pipelines, no transparency AA, and no gamma corrected AA :(

And we still can't buy it here.

eVGA is releasing a 7800GS(16 pipes) at 490Mhz core and 1.4Ghz RAM and ASC3 cooling, that should be a bit more close?
Model# 256-A8-E510-AX

Terra - I think it will be out the around 31/3...

yea seriously, that's how i got my ericson w800i cell phone. It still isn't available in the U.S., even after its release in europe and asia months back, but it was easy enough finding a trustworthy vendor on ebay and it was here within the week.

Whats gamma corrected AA do. I see option in my control panel set off should i set it on?

If you're stuck in AGP land with a 6600GT or slower, then a 7800GS is a good deal.

However, if you've got a 6800 Ultra (like me) a 7800GS is not much of an upgrade at all - in fact it's a stupid upgrade and you shouldn't even consider it - not even the 512mb version.

I have a 6600gt. I don't plan on upgrading anytime soon, but if I did I'd probably go with a 7800gs, as long as I can find a good deal on one. i seriously think I'd upgrade to s939 at least and go PCIe though. My 6600gt suits me fine for now.

I wish they'd hurry up and put it on Ebay. I want to see some prices!

http://www.advancetec.co.uk/acatalog/Gainward_nv_agp.html

First card on the page and it's 337.70 USD. This shop also sells Gainward on Ebay. Don't know if I can buy it from them unless they put it on the Bay.... :( But, they charge more than Price+VAT on their Ebay auctions versus their website plus you have $25-30 for shipping. Kind of a rip...

Well, they do have 'Best Offer' , but there is no incentive to come off of the price for a card like the 7800GS with it's low production numbers so they may not have 'Best Offer' on the 7800GS. I dunno. Probably just stick with what I have.

i didnt read all of what youve posted but heres what i have to show

i highly doubt ATI is going to counter. its just AGP. people complain AGP could have last so many years longer blah blah blah. Yeah you would be also spending more money on it too. It is like SDRAM vs DDR ram. Sure you can probably still use SDRAM but DDR so much better and cheaper in price

Hah, somebody screwed up... :p

If you read the Inquirer article, you'll learn that the card has a PCIe to AGP bridge. So I don't think anybody screwed up. The article is poorly worded, but Gainward was right when they put the PCIe logo on the box. Unlike the other AGP 7800GS offerings with 16 pipelines this card has 20 pipelines which is the same as the PCIe 7800GT. It also has 512MB of memory.

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=30502

This card's magic is that it actually has G71, Geforce 7800 GT PCIe core bridged down to AGP. It has G70 core with full 20 pipelines that worked at 425 MHz and famous BR2 chip managed to bridge the card down to AGP.
