CompUsa Midnight Madness Sale

Not a bad deal for XP Home for those that need it!

Too bad they don't have a deal on Nero 7 Ultra. :(

anyone know how good/bad that $20 pvr card with the remote control is?
reviews of it and such on compusa.com arent much of a help.

and dont forget the free AR can of air duster :D

mail in rebates piss me off

Yeah, me too. Unless it's something I really needed and planned to pay the regular price anyway.

debating whether or not to buy that turion laptop

That laptop has nice specs, but you can get dual core laptop for around that price if you can have Intel.

Sucks for an HTPC. Software encoding killed the proc usage on my 2000+ and audio had a 2+ second echo. I didn't spend much time with it, but I guess if you just wanted to capture some old camcorder stuff it might be ok if you can get the audio straight, but this is certainly a deal where you get what you pay for. ;)

for dual core in most cases you're looking at $200 more (ie the one they have in the ad) and with less ram.

Anyone happen to have that 26" sytnax olevia? Looks like a hellova deal....

I've played around with em when I worked at Meijer, and they're pretty poor quality IMO.

damn, thanks for that :)

sounds like a step down from the crappy pre-radeon all-in-shit that I have in my spare pc for watching tv on.

was hoping for something hauppage quality for 20 bucks :D

Cool... they have a few things that I might be intersted in....

(... I don't wanna sound like a n00b or nothin'...) but what's the deal with these e-rebates anyways? Do you have to give them a copy of this ad or anything to get the e-rebate?

There is alot of stuff I would get there if it werent for the MIRs. The HDD looks nice, as do the SD cards.

Man, I hope they actually TELL the sales staff that there actually IS a Midnight Madness sale. Last time I had to inform the staff at my local compuseless.

FYI: for the erebates its 3 weeks for the return period to end and another 6-10 weeks for the rebate to show up, apparently. Im still waiting for the $70 back from the last midnight madness. Im *NEVER* buying anything from CUSSR again with a rebate.

I thought they lost a class action suit and were forced to stop mail in rebates.

I bought the Toshiba lappy on the upper-right first page a month ago from BB. It was 499 w/o rebate there. I tossed in a 1 gig stick of ram to give me one and a quarter gigs and used the clockgen from the ATI rx200 desktop board to OC it to 2.2. It's a badass $575 laptop now.

Wow you overclocked the laptop, with clockgen? Does Clockgen support ATI X200 Express, and what it the temperature of you cpu and battery life etc.

Heh, 200$ pc with 10 in quantity, bring your cameras to submit psycho consumer hilarity. :D

how good exactly is a celeron?

is it just an old p4 without 64 bit support and no ht enbabled? and less L2?

Well, clockgen does not officially support the chipset, but it's close enough to the desktop version to allow the OC. There's a caveat though-I can only OC to 2.2. All the settings in the clockgen from 101 and upward yield the same result-2.2.

I haven't checked for a difference in battery life, although common sense says that there is one. I pretty much use my laptop inside and plugged in so that I have a computer in my living room, where my wife is very much against a desktop.

CPU temps....I don't know what the difference is, but that is also present. I can tell because if the intake vent on the bottom of the machine is blocked when it's running stock there's no problem. If the vent is blocked when running OC'd, it will overheat after about an hour, causing a hard lock with a blue screen and no error message. But if I don't block the vent, there is no problem with overheating it.

I kinda just OC'd it to see if it was possible and I usually run stock for no real reason, I could just run OC'd too.

This is the Seagate HDD that will be $29.99 + taxes
http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=309209&pfp=srch1
200GB Hard Drive
7200RPM, Internal, ATA/100
Manufacturer: Seagate
Mfg Part #: ST3200822A-RK
Product Number: 309209
Internal/External: Internal
Interface: ATA/100
Capacity: 200 GB
Rotational Speed: 7200 RPM
Cache Size: 8 MB
Port Connectors: IDE 40 pin

$139.99 - $10 (Instant Savings) - $40 (Mfg MIR) - $20 (MIR presumably from CompUSA) - $40 (eRebate Online MIR heh) = $29.99

I'd venture to guess that the tax will be aplied to the original price of $139.99.. so for me in Virginia it would be $36.99, with our 5% sales tax. 18.5 cents per gb is killer!

For those of you in Connecticut:

http://froth.com/rebate.html

Remember, if you see them in the store, advertising the net price after the cost of rebate... then you get the rebate at the time of purchase! Be sure to print out law and bring it with you.

My son just called me from CompUSA. Wanted to get a 1G flash Sandisk flash drive for $30 ($70 - 12$ Instant and $28 mail-in). Well... okay to that.

Then he said he wanted a 250G removeable USB HD for $70. Wow... until he mentioned that it was $190 - $20 Instant Savings and $100 mail-in rebate. Forget that....

I'm betting that on the items like the Seagate HDD with about 4 different Mail-ins they ALL want the original receipt - no copies. That sounds about right.
