need help with usb to serial adapter

I cant figure it out. I have a usb to serial adapter and it doesnt list any more COM ports under my device manager. Under Human Interface Devices it shows up as a USB Human Interface Device. But not as a COM port which is what i need it to do. The program im using to send code over shows a COM 8 but doesnt seem to work, so im guessing its the COM port. Any suggestions?

Did you install drivers for it? (My usb to 8 serial port adapter came with a driver CD).

im not really sure if it did come with a CD the only CD i found that doesnt go to anything that i know of doesnt look like it has any files on there for the serial port.

I have also done some other testing so it might be that the serial usb adapter is working...
