Howdy folks,

I don't know a lick about displays just yet. I've been trying to educate myself on the terms for LCDs but am still kind of lost....

Regardless, I like Samsung as a display manufacturer (LCD monitors and DLP TVs, etc) and there are four choices I've narrowed down my monitor selection to.

Which would work best for GAMES? Do I sacrifice anything by choosing one of the 1600x1200 choices below?

Samsung 940T
Samsung 940B
Samsung 960BF
Samsung 204T

I don't care about cabinet color, just performance.

Thanks in advance for advice!

Well, looks like your rig should be able to push it, so 204T FTW.

And you don't get that wonky 5:4 ratio with it :p

Friend has that 8ms one, looks quite nice for the price. I'm kinda uneasy on LCD's that get below 8ms. Most of the ones I've seen didn't seem to look too hot.

I just bought a Samsung 214T. I love it. Replaced a 21" Trinitron. I was worried about your typical LCD "issues" and to my surprise things seem to run smooth, no noticable ghosting in any games I've tried on it so far. Very little backlight "leakage". And for some reason with the exact same settings as my CRT, games seem to run "smoother". I don't know if that is because I went from a VGA cable to a DVI cable, but I am impressed with it.

If I were you I would check out best buy, they usually carry the 204T and you know how many people try and mess with that. Ide check and see if the monitor stays in the same position when you move it. I don't remember very well but last time I went there the best buy sales guy said that it was kinda wobely but dont take my word for it.

I would go with the fastest one that you can choose from if you have the money( the 940bf or the 940B)

Good Luck!

What do you all think about the 960BF? It says "4ms grey-to-grey".....quite frankly I don't know what that means. Is this an incredibly fast monitor? It's about $379 (50-60 bucks more than the 940B) but it's in my budget.

What is the sacrifice for "4ms grey-to-grey"?

...and now I'm seeing the "940BF"...which has a 4ms response time vs the 940B's 8ms response time? Ack...*confused*

Thanks for all the help so far,

Right now I am starting to like the 960BF at $379.99. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thx,
