I've gotten a hankering for some RTS lately.

I was thinking about Command & Conquer after playing a little Military Madness today. What an awesome game C&C was.

Anyone know of plans to create a good RTS like C&C for the 360?

I'll probably be getting AoE for the ds after I buy one but I'd really like the graphical wonder of HD gaming.

RTS games for consoles generally blow... you're much better off getting something for the PC.

RTS?

i liked command and conqure for ps1, but got the ps1 mouse for $10 tho

no mouse=no rts, imho

The closest thing to an RTS on the 360 is The OutFit. Other than that you should look at the PC for your RTS fix.

It was an Xbox game, not a 360 game, and not the traditional RTS but...

did you ever check out "Full Spectrum Warrior"?

The Dune port on Genesis was pretty awesome :D

Battle for Middle Earth 2 is probably going to be the closest thing you can get to a good RTS on an XBOX 360. I would buy it for the PC first though.

battle for middle earth 2 on 360, I heard somewhere they almost mastered the RTS on the consoles, so expect to see more soon.

How do you master RTS games on consoles? It's impossible without a mouse or something that controls like one. A gamepad with analog sticks does not. There are lots of great RTS titles on the PC (just not lately), so I would enjoy them there.

Heh! dune (although REALLY fun) was horrible control wise one pc too. you had to select one troop at a time. not a selection...ONE TROOP :)

Battle for Middle Earth 2 is coming out for the 360

You've got to be kidding me. I'd rather poke my eyes out with sticks than play that. Ugh. I've seen a console RTS in action too, it ain't elegent.

Where exactly did you buy your crystal ball at ? I've been meaning to pick one up for years.

They sell them on Ebay :D
No, seriously... console RTS games suck total ass, unless they're done in a "different" style (like Batallian Wars - even that, it was hard to get used to). The analog stick is NOT suited for such tasks like RTS titles (somebody prove me wrong?)

I own a 360 and even I am disgusted with the thought of a RTS for it. Although the only announced RTS for the 360 that I have heard of is Battle for Middle Earth 2.

I remember enjoying Goblin Commander on the Xbox. Best RTS I've seen on a console. I remember playing StarCraft on the N64 and that was fun split screen multiplayer. :)

really hard to play RTS on console, thats why most come out for PC, usually RTS dont require alot of processing power so i would get one for the PC.

If you hadnt tried these i would get them since they are bargain bin now

Warcraft 3
Rise of Nations - my favorite RTS
Rome : Total War

I think the last enjoyable strategy games I played on console were the Ghengas Khan games for Snes and Genesis.

Age of Empires on the DS is getting rave reviews (as did Advance Wars), but the stylus makes it an easy job, since it's so much like a mouse. Hopefully the same can be said for the Revmote, but I've never enjoyed playing any strategy titles with an analog stick. I can stomach playing shooters (if they're good, and multiplayer) this way, but not RTS titles.

Ya I can see the DS being reasonable with the stylus, and who knows whats capable with the Revmote. I hope Nintendo does something great with the controller I'm just afraid that all that movement will tire me out fast, turning long fun gaming sessons into short, tired, sore arm sessons...

but hark! we will see! /crosses fingers

Nah, it's been stated a whole lot of times, but unless you CHOOSE to play by waving your hands around with the Revmote, it's unnecessary, and won't make you any more tired than your current controllers do. At least according to all the gaming press. But enough about the Rev... I still can't think of an RTS game that has been GOOD on a console. As much as the N64 Starcraft was a half-faithful port, it was just too crappy to control it with the analog stick, IMO. I've played a couple 3D 3rd-person RTS games (Batallian Wars on the Gamecube comes to mind) where the controls were manageable... but I still much prefer playing that genre on the PC (or with PC-like controls).

Ya RTS's seem to be a PC thing, but devs are always finding new ways to impress us, so maybe one day.

Which will have a multiplayer demo on Xbox LIVE MarketPlace on March 3rd.

I prefer to play RTS on my computer. But I am willing to rent Battle for Middle Earth 2 on the 360 just to see if they made the gamepad control sceme good enough to play the game on my 360 or not... but I am not holding my breath.

Seing someone mention Military Madness made my day. My favorite game of all time. Oh man, if they put Nectaris on the 360 live arcade with multiplayer support, I would be set for life.

Now about the RTS on a console discussion, remember that it all started with Herzog Zwei on the Genesis. BFME2 is coming out on the xbox, but this is from EA, so you know it will be a lame port from the pc  . An RTS could work for a console if it was designed from the ground up to be played on the console. Hopefully one day we will see one. Think back to Herzog Zwei.

PC rts's have been stale for a long time now. The last innovative RTS that I can think of are the Myth series.
