As a long time AMD user, I've paid little attention to Intel's roadmaps. I finally gave in when I bought my current laptop, and I've been blown away by the raw performance of the Pentium M. I average anywhere between 100 and 450FPS in UT2004 multiplayer, while my AMD Desktops with 6600GT's average around 85-100FPS.

I've been watching benchmarks, and the Core Duo seems to keep up pretty well with all the high-end offerings from Intel and AMD. I'm definitely looking at using a Core Duo in my next desktop towards the end of this year, but only if the 64-bit support is there.

How long is the wait going to be?

Conroe should have what your looking for.

Its built on the merom core and rumor is it will be even 30% more efficent per clock than the Pentium M is.

edit. oh yea you asked when. This fall, 2006.

Now you see that evil will always triumph, because AMD is dumb... :D

j/king

I was kinda curious to this too, I would like to think that Apple would want to step down to 32bit again after allready rolling out 64bit processors and operating systems.

Yonah and all its flavors (including Sossaman) are all 32bit processors.
