GameSpot is reporting that it will premiere the single player demo for Lord of the Rings: Battle For Middle Earth II on Thursday around noon EST. The demo will contain two out of the full game's three playable sides (Goblins and Dwarves) with a tutorial map and a single player skirmish map.

Drool.... I can't wait for this!! Anyone else here have any thoughts on the series? Anything they want to see added to the game to make it better than the first?

Personally, I am happy to see the base building and the ability to build anywhere added to the game. I felt this really limited the strategy options in the first BfME. Also, I hope they have done something about the Knights on horseback. It seemed to me that they were too hard to defeat - they could just ride through anything you built up against them. They were a little too strong in my opinion.

The create a hero option seems pretty cool too. Hopefully it will be a good idea in game as it is in paper. Having custom heroes could really add to the options in strategy you use.

Wow, no posts yet. I really thought there would be a higher demand for this game right now.

Sigh... there are just not enough RTS fans to go around anymore.

I will definalty be picking this up.

I've got the first one, but have not played it to much. I got into it, then lost my save. Got into it again, and lost my save again. I am sick of just replaying the first few levels over and over again.... so I will probably never see the end.

For me, the things that made the first one not so great was the control points and the fact you could only build on certain spots. Not exactly what I have come to enjoy since I am a spoiled Command and Conquer player.

I really hope that this game makes the game better in terms of strategy. I tried playing WarHammer : Dawn of War recently, and I have to admit I really don't like it. It pretty much amounts to whoever builds the most stuff the fastest wins. There is no strategy involved. Just forgo building anything but troops at the very start of the game and send them into your enemies base and viola! You have won.

I like games where you can use a few units skillfully and do a lot of damage, or out manuever your enemy. Not just build a bunch of sh!t and then march on the enemies base camp.

From the looks of it, this game will do just that where the last one failed.

Will download it the second it comes available. I felt that BFME was one of the best RTS games in recent years. It had its flaws but was still a lot of fun. Played through the single player twice, once evil, once good. Some fun battles in there. :)

ooh I'll def. get the demo and probably will love it. I just hate that SW:Empire At War and BfME is coming out more less at the same time... You have no RTS games for ages and then they drop two great ones on you arse at once, not fair not fair.

I'm gonna check it out. But I'm knee deep in AoE III right now on the RTS front, and am about to start Swat 4. No time for new games right now =)

Don't complain! I have been waiting how many years for Red Alert 3? I don't care if they dump 10 (good) RTS games on my at once. At least I know I have them available to me.

Unlike Red Alert which was announced as being under production back in 2004 and I still haven't heard anything about it yet.

So, has anyone played it yet? I will be going out of town right after work (house hunting!!) so I won't get the chance to play until I get back Sunday.

Hell, I won't even be able to put my new PC together until Monday for that matter since the shipment gets delivered while I am out of town.

Anyone think the improvements made the game any better? Any reviews from you guys at all?

man, that thing is 1.3GB I think this is the biggest demo ever, lol.

Your going to have to wait about an hour to even start your download. Expect to not be playing it until to night, even with cable.

I think having Starforce imbedded is turning people off. How is it? I got in the beta but declined to participate.

I don't have a problem one with Starforce. I have no idea why so many people have a problem with it.

Why the heck would someone put star force on a demo? "Oh noes, they might pirate my free demo! That I want as many people as possible to play!" Yeah.

This is the nature of the way Star Force works. If they didn't "copy protect" the demo executable, cracking groups could examine the unprotected code of the demo, and contrast it to the protected code of the final, and finally produce an unprotected executable to boot/run the final. Wouldn't be that straight forward, but cracking groups often look to other versions of the executables to develop their cracks. Hence why we get demos with Starforce.

It looks like the best server right now is the eagames one on the BFME official site. Im getting about 140kb/s on my wireless. Heres the link

But it will be cracked anyway...

I really like it. My only beef with it right now is that it doesnt include the option for 1280x1024 resolution so it looks a tad off on my computer, but still looks and runs very nice. I didnt play the first one so I cant really compare the two but Im really liking this one and cant wait to try the other races. I still suck a bit much and can't beat much more that the easy computer; I can only hold off the medium computer for about 40 minutes before folding but I never made any progress in assaulting their base.

does it support widescreen by anychance or am i reaching to far here?

From what I saw it only supported the basic 4:3 resolutions up to 1280x960. Im hoping theres some way to change it though so it looks better on my 19" lcd

i just tried playing it right now, but i'm getting some bugs with the shadows. i wonder if it's an NVIDIA hardware problem, a driver problem, or a game bug.

I wish they had included some glimpse of the strategic portion of the game. The skirmish mode did not impress me at all.

well thats a bunch of Crud, what is so had about supporting widescreen?

Does Starforce installs all but itself without any warning or something like Sony's DRM? the demo installed normally like the demos always do so I don't know

The game looks good and plays good I was tired and went only through tutorials, have yet to try out the skirmish, but I'm liking it so far... As for Shadows problem I don't think I got it, as I recall they looked perfectly fine and I also have nvidia.

Yeah the goal isn't to eliminate piracy...it's to make it so inconvienent that less people will do it.

It only has to be cracked once. After that it's just as convenient as always.

Eyah one of the main reasons why I stopped looking for no CD cracks is becasue of all the viruses that come with the no CD patches.

I think its more convienient to be legit.

Yeah, for some reason the shodows looks very blocky/rough on my X850XT with 6.1's. It looks pixelated and low res, hope it's just a glitch in the demo or something.

I've played for approx 4 hours so far. Just playing Skirmish against the computer. I played the crap out of the first one including playing in 4-5 tournaments. All I have to say is THIS GAME ROCKS! There were quite a few things I didn't like about BFME1. I didn't like not being able to build anywhere, and being limited to the expansion points on the map. There were also many bugs with the walls that could be exploited. The way they've changed things around makes the game SO much better. There is a lot more depth to it making creating new strats more involved. There are multiple counters to each unit, especially if you use heros. I really like the Dwarven mine network. That's a pretty neat idea! Being able to build your own wall is pretty sweet. I'm really curious as to how that's going to play out in multiplayer. The interface is so similiar to the first one that I believe it started out as an expansion and then later moved to a full standalone sequal. All in all, if you enjoyed the first BFME, you'll like this one as well. And if you didn't like it, chances the problems that you had have been addressed.

i liked some of the little touches they added, like being able to set fire to the forests to trap enemies. little things like that, and that one mission in the good campaign in the first one where you can enrage the mumakil to get them to trample the haradrim were really cool.

I never played the 1st one, but man, they did alot things that dont make any sense to me. firstly, after you research something you have to then go and apply it to each individual group of troops and any new troops you make, why cant they make it like pretty much every other RTS game and when I research something everybody knows about it? Also, rally points seem to only work for troops currently being produced, so if I'm in a battle with a bajillion goblins, I will have a bunch of troops hanging back at the base becasue the rally point expired. Also you have to put your resources things so far apart (which I guess kind of makes sense) and it makes it hard to defend them.

Was the 1st one like this? Other than those things its a decent game
