any good ones still there and kicking.

I wont pay 15 bucks to play these new ones.

You could try a UO or EQ emulated server. I hope I'm not breaking any rules by mentioning them. You'ed still need a full copy of the game before you could play though.

$15 a month saves me $500 at the bar. I can't even buy 2 good beers for $15, yet you can play a great game for a long as you please for the same price.

But either way I think AO, UO, EQ and I would checkout RYL (risk your life) if you want to pay less.

I tried the RYL beta, and if it was any indication of what the final product has become, avoid it like the plague.

Knight online is a free MMO, I would use VMware or VirtualPC when running it though because it's bound up with spyware. It's a good game if you use it on a virtual hard drive or something you can re-image every week to get rid of the spyware.

give AO a shot, EQ might be hard to pick back up if you are starting fresh

thinking of going back to AO now after i'm very bored with WoW, and how stagnant GW's has become on lvl'ing (unless i'm missing something here)

Dark Age of Camelot is only $11 a month, not much cheaper tho
Thats no longer true. Its been $14.95 for quite a while.

what about guild wars, that seems to be the hot ticket now. I know nothing of mmo's so please forgive my noobness.

I found Guild Wars looked beautiful and had some neat mechanics, but was largely populated with A-hole kids. If you want to get alot out of GW, you really do need to find a good guild. Not an option for me, as I never have regular play times.

Guild Wars isn't really a RPG, despite the trappings. You won't get very many people who truly RP, unlike EQ or something where there are a fair number of people (and dedicated servers?) who RP seriously.

Every time I try a MMORPG I get insanely addicted for a period of a few weeks, and then just get burned out by retarded players and the focus on gaining power and goodies. I always find myself coming back to the good old storytelling and immersive experiences that are more often found in the single player realm.

Along those lines, you can explore Morrowind, Deus Ex, the Thief series, the Fallout series, The Baldur's Gate series, Neverwinter Nights, and Planescape for pretty cheap!

more of a niche than even eq/daoc/wow, try WWII online. its like a mmorpg and a history lesson all in one.

I would second guild wars, although it's not a true RPG. You need to find a good guild and that can take some time. But because it's not a true rpg you get to play the most fun areas and not have to worry about a punk kid camping and killing everybody that walks by and keeps killing you until you quit.

guild wars is also one of the best if you want to stop questing for a while and play some PVP.

Battlefield 2
-wait thats a FPSMMOAction, oh well

ah, Diablo 2, yeah, action-based MMORPG
