Has anyone upgraded to 6mbps from 4 for +10$/month? Just wandering what the process is like. Do they come out to your house and how long does it take for them to do it?

Why are they charging you extra? I thought Comcast was already 6mbps for the regular price, they just upped it a few months ago. I know I don't pay anymore than the regular price and I'm at about 6.5mbps according to speed testing.

They shouldn't need to come out to your house to do this, they're just increasing your bandwidth.

I think he means the 8mb service. I did that for a while however my cable lines couldn't get me the 8mb down. I called them out twice to look at it and they tried to put an amp in the line and everything, but no go so I went back to the 6mb. I couldn't pay $10 a month for an extra 128 upload or whatever it was.

Eh, 6mbit is plenty with my upload being capped at ~256kbit.

Now if they started offering sync 3mbit for +10 a month, I'd be all over that. :D

When I upgraded to the 8mb service all I had to do was get on the comcast chat tool and chat with a rep. They asked a few questions and then switched me to the higher speed limit. After that you just reboot your cable modem and you're good to go.

You get like, an additional 512kbps upstream (total of 768kbps opposed to standard 384kbps) and like, 2mbps down or something.

Last time I checked Comcasts website, the "Gold" service was officially 6mbps, while some areas were being tested with 8mbps.

Edit: Here's what their website says...

"Or, for just $10 more per month, you can enjoy our top-speed connection, 6 Mbps/768 Kbps, and enjoy download speeds up to 70 times faster than 56K dial-up and five times as fast as 768K DSL. It's so unbelievably fast, you'll wonder how you ever surfed the Web without it."

I have the Gold tier (6mbps / 768kbps) and do a lot of serving... works great for my needs.

I had 6mps and I was in the office one day paying a bill and jokingly asked if she could make my connection faster and she said there was an 8000/768 teir that I didn't even freakin know about. I said hell yeah so she did something on her computer and by the time I drove home the new speed was confirmed with dslreports speed tests. Almost too easy.

how much are you paying per month total ??

Cincy RR we have 8 mbit here for 79 dollars a month but when you get digital phone also it goes to 69 for the High speed upgrade

And on FTP transfers to my computer i can max out at around 1100 K :D

I pay $52.95 for my internet, but that's the price when you get the digital box too.

If you upgrade, they don't have to come out to you, they just make a change on their end which then signals to your cable modem and raises the bandwidth cap to 6 mbps.

Anyway, 6 mbps is the standard speed now only if you have Comcast cable as well.

In the summer, when they were making the switch to 6/8 mbps service, I got the bump from 4 mbps to 6 mpbs as well. However, a couple months ago I guess they figured out I don't get cable service anymore, so now I'm back at dinky old 4 mbps service and I'd have to pay $53/month for 6 mbps service.

Whew Comcast has standard speeds since their upgrade.

The standard is a 6000/384 connection and has been for about 4-5 months.

You can upgrade to a 8000/768 connection.

They have had two tiers of service for quite some time now, it used to be called the "Home Networking Package" but now I'm not sure what they're calling it.

The DSLreports forums would have more in depth information as well.

Comcast has different speeds depending on if you have cable tv or phone service through them as well. If you have no other services your base speed is 4Mb with the upgraded speed package of 6Mb available for an extra $10 a month. If you do have tv service through them then your standard speed should be 6Mb with the upgraded package of 8Mb available in some areas. Has anyone gone from 6Mb to the 8Mb package and noticed a big difference?

I most certainly did. Not from the 6 to 8mps so much as the 384 to 768 kps upload. My torrent speeds went way up.
