New Games?? Something that isn't a clone of Halo or UT??

I have just about played myself out on HL2 and Halo 2 and UT, etc. (I don't have DSL or Broadband, so I only play single player). Has anyone heard of anything new? Seems like a lot of the games recently are almost copies of older games. Granted, they still occupy time, but I am looking for something to do to me what Unreal Tournament did to me when it came out---days and days oblivious to the outside world! Any recommendations would be appreciated.

well theres Doom3, FEAR, Quake4 as far as first shooters go, to me Quake4 was the grand single player game for me, it kept me occupied for a few days, kept the name sake of Quake and generally kicked ass

By UT, do you mean the original UT or UT2K4? If you haven't check out UT2K4, I highly recommend it.

There's nothing that I can really think of that's been released recently that is similar to UT or Halo, but you could give FEAR or Quake IV a try. They should help tide you over until UT2K7 gets released later this year.

I would suggest you check out F.E.A.R. Definitely a fun single-player game. The only MPs that I play is BF2 are CSS.

I've got Doom3 and I enjoyed it for a quite a while. I'm probably more of a first person shooter kind of guy. I really liked Ghost Recon, Counter Strike (Condition Zero), HL2, Halo, but my favorite by far has to be UT 2003. I haven't tried FEAR or Quake- there seems to be quite a few people on the forum bad-mouthing these two (I don't know why).

Well, if you have't played Far Cry, that's a given  The original serious sam is a blast. It may not have the best graphics/physics out there but it's hours and hours of old-school fun. Hundreds of crazy enemies and tons of secrets.

What is this one about?? I have Far Cry and love it, but want something else (Far Cry is about the only one I haven't burnt myself out on yet and I don't want to).

Serious Sam is sort of like the Army of Darkness of the FPS genre. You play a random badass who gets sent back in time to ancient egypt, where you must kill thousands and thousands of extra-dimensional monsters. The game is really fun and fast-paced, and I'm sure set records for the most monsters on-screen at once. It has a really cool mechanic where monsters are not placed in the levels like most games: what happens is when you cross a certain line in a level or pick up an item, a bunch of monsters spawn in the room near you, so you almost never have the opportunity to sneak up on anything. Whereas FarCry wants you to sneak around and kill people efficiently, Serious Sam wants you to charge into a huge room full of monsters with guns-a-blazin. It was only $20 when it came out new so I'm sure you can get it online cheap. The sequel (Serious Sam: The Second Encounter [not serious sam 2]) is a lot of fun too. The plot is cheesey and there are a lot of hilarious moments. In one of the earlier levels a giant stone ball falls from the ceiling and rolls towards you, while Sam whistles the Indiana Jones theme. You will definitely find the game challenging, even on normal. One of my favorite games of all time.

theres no reason to bad mouth quake4 or fear, both are great, fear is a little monotonous, but it still holds its creepyness through out the game, and quake4 holds its enourmous surpise around every corner through the entire game, you won't be bored with either of them i can gurantee it

the Serious Sam series are great, the AI is crap but it is non stop fragging

Which one (since you've played them both) would you recommend trying out first, FEAR or Quake 4? And I will try out Serious Sam.

GASP! You say you've played UT2003? Does that mean you haven't tried out UT2004? Dude, your missing out! Assault was put back in the game and they added Onslaught, an amazing new game mode.

i'd say Quake4, i was more drawn into it, i think you'll get more out of it, with FEAR i was relying on being scared, with Quake4 i was expecting something new every new zone, and you pretty much get it

You sir, have sold me on SS. I never saw anything about the game that remotely appealed to me, but after hearing the comparison to Army of Darkness (the movies, not the shameful console games), I've just ordered Serious Same Gold from Amazon for $15.

BTW Does the game feature the boom-stick? ;)

Almost: in one level after picking up the double-barrel shotgun, Sam exclaims "Oh man, I love this one!" And then of course you just start blasting away with it.

Quake 4
F.E.A.R.
Painkiller (awesome fast / dark medival FPS) & expansion
Far Cry (for sure get this)
Star Wars : Battlefront (if you like star wars)

Buggy as HELL, but not a bad game. Check out Boiling Point aka Xenus in Europe, sort of a GTA meets Deus Ex game. Spent a little time with it so far, and it's actually ok. But buggy.

i can't believe nobody mentioned call of duty 2.

i'm in the same spot as you. i've played them all, but i just can't find one with a good single player. call of duty 2 is excellent (no doom or mechwarrior, but way better than any other recnt games). i though it was better than: fear, unreal tournament 2004(but overall this is one of the best fps games of all time...but the single player sucks), far cry, etc.

if you have a recently made computer, definitely download the call of duty 2 demo and check it out.

also, download the ut2k4 demo if you haven't. the demo itself was enough for me to game on for weeks...then i bought the game. WOW, i didn't even know i was missing out! and best of all, unreal tournament 2004 is like 10 bucks now. no reason not to get it.

recommend:

FEAR

thief 1,2,3(only after 1 and 2)

deus ex 1
deus ex 2 (only after 1)

Farcry

half life one

chronicles of riddick

Tribes 1,2,3 (they're all free now :D )

and if u wanna try a game that is a total failure but had the most potential ever, play B.R.E.E.D.

not recommend:
call of duty 2: its a first person movie, 90% are scripted and guns suck
quake4: first few level are ok, the rest sux, buy it only under $20, plus if u dont multiplayer then its one less thing

doom3: unless u play it with the "ducktapemod" -which lets u use a flashlight and a gun at one time, and 5.1 surround sound, it sux

Halo itself is a clone...

QFT. But so was UT, if you think of it like that :p 99.99% of shooters nowadays are clones of clones of clones. It's like watching the 6th Day after watching Total Recall.

quake 4 is good. I recently started playing GTA and it is pretty damn good and if you want something a little different GTA is it.

painkiller is a kickass older game if you missed it

Prince of persia series is a nice change of pace

Riddick manages to pull off a non-cookie cutter feel

Thief III is cool if you can stand the style

Painkiller for the size of those bosses

UT 2004 for Onslaught

Heard good things about Riddick
