Hey Mayhs, like everyone is saying the MX518 is an excellent mouse with one caveat. I love the idea of adjusting the sensitivity on the fly. I bought one because I play a lot of FPS games as well. Mine is sitting in a drawer right now un-used. I use my middle wheel a bunch when I play fps and I found I kept hitting the sensitivity buttons by accident on the MX518. Was really frustrating so I just went back to my trusty old Intellimouse 4.0...... Just something to think about.
How is it even possible to hit the sensitivity buttons by accident? Logitech mice have their buttons in a place where you have to move your fingers over to hit them, they don't rest over any buttons aside from left and right click. Does 518 even have sensitivity adjustment buttons?

Good choice, hope you enjoy it. You might want to get some teflon tape/mouse skates for the mouse, it has its own teflon feet but you should use them anyway to preserve them. The DB is also a little too close to the surface in some cases so the tape will raise it a little bit.

As for the sensitivity button, what I did was set one button as an "on the fly" sensitivity button, I pressed that and then used the mouse wheel to adjust sensitivity. There may be a direct way to adjust it but I don't know, I've moved on to the Copperhead(which definitely does have the ability to assign buttons as dpi up/ dpi down)

can you use the right buttons to change the dpi? this leaves the left buttons for other uses..and seeing as im right handed this feature would be helpful

also which mouse? the razer diamondback magma or limited edition plasma...the price difference is only £4

basically the same, plasma is cooler and on paper should be more accurate because it uses infar-red or a blue led or something to track

kk...thnx can anyone else shed some light onto this plz?

just get what you like more. Get whichever design looks better, or which one feels more comfortable.

For these high end mice, the performance is really the same - if there's any advantage one mouse has over another it's negligable. Aside from maybe Logitech laser mice, since they are more "accurate" and work on more surfaces, also the pointer doesn't jump around when a hair gets stuck under the lens. At least I haven't noticed the pointer jumping around with the MX1000, but it did for other optical mice I've used.

ill get the plasma limited edition then :p

can sum1 answer this question still plz?

"hmmm...would it be ok on a hard wooden surface or is a mouse pad needed?"

I was using my mouse originaly on my wooden desks surface and it didn't feel right.
I bought a mouse pad thats sold here in South Africa.
http://www.xtremegaming.co.za/
The XtremePad and Tomshardware had a review on it once.
I personaly feel this pad was worth it. With the smooth even surface the mouce just glides.

Borrow a pad (decent pad) from a friend or someone once you get your mouse and see what you think.

The DB Plasma actually uses a slightly newer revision of the optical sensor used in the regular DB, so there are some changes that do address some of the issues with the original.

Definitely get a mouse pad, as to which type, you should ask yourself whether you'd like to have some friction while moving your mouse, or if you want it to be super slick. Plastic or metal surfaces tend to give a faster+smoother motion, cloths give more control and friction. If you've never used a 1600+dpi mouse before, you may be surprised just how high a sensitivity that gives you - you may find that having a higher friction mousepad would suit you better.

Mouseskatez are something you should consider if you want even more speed+glide from your mouse on the hard/plastic pads. Before you go spending money on them, it'd probably be a good idea to see if you need them or not.

thnx m8...good advice...ive got a 800dpi mouse atm..id say around 600dpi tho really :p the pads have worn away and i believe with a better mouse pad it would glide better..as it used to do when it was new..ill look into this :) but can sum1 answer my previous question plz? as that is the most important for me

I don't think there's a bind you can make for a toggle DPI switch in the drivers. In the Razer driver config panel, there's just an option there to switch between 1600 and 400dpi.

Instead of having a toggle for DPI, you can use the on-the-fly sensitivity adjustment via mouse button binds. Personally I have the left buttons for my thumb, and one of the right buttons I use for on-the-fly sensitivity adjustment. (You just hold the particular button down, and scroll your mousewheel to adjust the sensitivity up and down, a little meter shows up on your screen to show you where your sensitivity is at.)

i love senseitivity adjustments, as i like to have differnt ones for differnt games even ill need to change it depending if im snipeing or not in games like halo

sorry... didn't get it in today... I just got part of my $600 order. the mouse is coming from new jersey, my other stuff is coming from california, and the case Im upgrading to came in from tennessee today. but I only got my case in. everything else is in dallas right now and should be closer to me by tonight so I should get it tomorrow. I'll tell you what I think when I get it because this is my first razor and really my first "fingertip" mouse.

I like my MX510 and the removed weight.

But I would like the on the fly DPI adjustment so when I'm railing in Quake 4 while zoomed, I can actually hit something.

If you get the copperhead, make sure to use the latest drives off the site, as they include the pixel skip fix in them that plagues that version of sensor used in all the optical mice at that time. You'll also want to get the USB patch to change to polling rate to 500Hz vs the normal 125. BIG difference in performance then. You can score that at razerblueprints.net, pretty much the biggest online community for razer mice.. lot's of good stuff on there..

I'd have to say with the latest driver for the DB and the 500Hz patch, you're very close to the precision of the latest laser mice.. Having had both the DB, and now the CH, it's hard to say which I like more. Need to get another mouse pad though, to see if the CH can replace my DB.. It doesn't track on my Icemat as well, since the Icemat was made for optical mice not laser mice.. And my original ratpad is way to damn slick to be accurate.. think I"ll score a func archetype.. Anyway, the CH has it's own learning curve over the DB that has taken some time to get used to, but I definately am starting to like it better.. get alot more headshots now, even on the icemat which I know has some minor tracking issues..

anyway, you wont' be disappointed by the DB, definately an amazing mouse even by today's standards..

ok man... I got it in... all I can say is its the difference between night and day... FEAR is now even better. gone is all the clunkiness... I am MUCH impressed... Its an incredible boost in finesse to the game and even makes the game seem to run faster... I totally recommend man!!!

I had a microsoft wireless Elite duo... I loved the "leather" wristpad and the wirelessness of it.. bit Im tired of replacing batteries..lol. I also wanted a better gaming mouse so... got the saitek eclipse ant the DB plasma LE. I was shooting zoomed out in places I used to have to snipe and pick one off at time behind cover. now I can see them and bang, bang bang, there gone. (using the plasma gun thingy) I killed three people in the next building over in under 2 seconds where I used to have to pop up behind a window, activate slowmo, zoom in, pick one off, deactivate slowmo, duck, then repeat. now I popped over the window shot 3 times with three kills withou zooming in or using slomo... thats results!

Yes, the diamond back is fully customizable you can make any of the 7buttons do whatever ther fuck you want. You can maket he bottom left button, Click. I use top left button for the DPI change. You hold down the button and scroll up or down with the wheel.

i forget if you said whether you are an avid fps gamer or not but i love on-the-fly sensitivity. i love razor's drivers and i love my diamondback mouse. i am left-handed so the only mice i have ever owned have been from either razor or microsloth. i've always hated logitech for the simple fact that they don't make products for me, as if i don't exist or something. anyway what i wanted to add is that on-the-fly makes fps games all the easier, say your are playing bf2 and you are a gunner on a helicopter, well you can crank your sensitivity up so that it is easier to look around, and then once you land and are back on your feet you turn it back down. The buttons on the mouse aren't hard to hit at all, there are no "sharp" edges as many of you logilovers keep telling him and it is simply the most fluent mouse i've ever owned. i still use the diamondback over the copperhead, for various reasons.

could you express those reasons?

the reason i don't use the copperhead is because it is setup differentyly than the diamondback. i find the side buttons a little more complicated during combat to use easily and the mouse is also a touch smaller. both mice are balanced perfectly (when you hit a mouse button, it is balanced over the center making scrolling in the action easy). as far as the higher dpi it doesn't mean much to me. all that means to me is that i'm going to have to turn down the sensitivity even further to have the same scrolling speed as i currently do and yet it feels no different than 1600dpi.

Yes, Yes you can. Though it's goign to be harder than you think I like the feeling of awkward to reach buttons so the right buttons do not bother me that much. I was alway's partial to pressing the Far right C-Buttons on the n64. When they're hard ot hit, i never accidentally press them. Your going to love your mouse. You should pick up a nice surface if you can, like the Func Archtype or my choice an Icemat.

Yeah, I ordered a copperhead, but soon cancelled after I used one. I like the sidebuttons on the DB better. I also only use about approx. 1300dpi, 2000dpi is way to much, and the weight thing seems gimicky on both logitech and razers parts. I am just waiting to see what razer does w/ the tarantula, maybe I'll have to trade in the G15 for Tarantula.
