I cant use gamespy with BF2 because when i log in, theres always EA asking me to buy something, and it interrupts me connecting to the server, any ideas?

They put that ad there specifically to stop 3rd party server browsers from working - like Xfire, ASE, and Gamespy. I think we're all out of luck on bypassing it as I have not heard of anyone coming up with a solve.

E-mail customer support. You are a customer, you want support. Simple as that. If they tell you that you cannot, stop purchasing their games.

I haven't found a way to stop that pop-up and I've search many a place high and low.

As appealing as that sounds, ill have to pass. I would trust a community of gamers before I'd trust a tier 1 support person.

And the only other game i buy from that company is Madden.

Could try installing filemon (sysinternals.com) and letting it run when you try to log on. It should show you what file is popping up, and then you could try re-naming it and see what happens.

Umm you are talking about where it ask you to buy SF or european booster pack? I removed all the intro movies and company logo displays for faster loading times. I don't remember having to go through that welcome screen advertisement when using gamespy arcade, I thought I just had to login and then it would connect. Strange! I'm going to google :)

It isnt an outside program. It's the BF2.exe

If the program is loading a splash screen or whatever it is your seeing from somewhere else then the file is probably not bf2.exe. If you find out where that image or whatever is stored you may be able to disable it.

Im able to browse servers using Xfire. Maybe Im just special though.

Maybe the file is under \Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Movies\ or maybe something around there maybe just mods\bf2\ who knows..maybe the filename is obvious :D

Winnar.

You might be able to block the IP that the ad is coming from, but that may cause errors as well. It may also be the IP of the auth server.

I'd have to say this is one of those "deal with it" things. I mean really it takes an extra 2-3 seconds, and that sucks and all, but really...

edit: it's not a file in the movies directory, the ad changes...

It's not a "pop-up" in the general sense of the word. It happens AFTER you login to BF2 and before you hit the browser screen. It "pops-up" in-game. EA is delivering the image but no one has been able to find it just yet to disable it.

BF2 Account Login Welcome Screen was added with the 1.03 patch so it has to do with some file in that patch. To me, I would be suprised if it was BF2.exe. but we will see or not :) If it is, then crap hehe

how is gamespy or another 3rd party server browers would be better than BF2's server brower anyway?

are you joking?
No, once I tried using Gamespy and it installed some spyware and I've never used one since. How ironic, eh? gamespy, spyware.

Yes, some programs do detect gamespy as "spyware" but a lot of legitimate programs are detected as spyware sometimes. It might have spyware but it isn't anything to worry about, it doesn't randomly generate popups in your face or slow down your PC etc... Overall no complaints with gamespy...although it doesn't work with IE7 (at least the beta).

:(

oh well hehe

Gamespy is the gayest shit. I tried connecting to BF1942 and RTCW servers years ago and I was bombarded with freaking advertisments and that gay ass "Lets on with the killing" everytime I connected. No to mention, gamespy seems to be more loaded with smacktards and assholes in my experience.

No thanks, i'll stick with in game server listings.

That was then. I use gamespy because im suscribed, and they have gamespy subscriber servers that i enjoy playing on.

I use Battlefield 2 Auto-Loader and never have any problems with the advertisement screen. I find it to be much quicker at displaying all available servers than the in-game browser. It also has better searching through filters.

Mcafee detected the exact file that causes that pop-up add for me. I just didn't remove it because I didn't want to risk breaking anything. It's in your profile somewhere I'm pretty sure. I'll try and check tonight--no promises--and tell you where it is.

What's really funny is GameSpy and EA are partnered or something like that. I remember seeing something about the two of them somewhere...

I wish I could use their browser. The in-game browser is such crap - no wheel scroll? WTH is up with that?

Recall to me any game that allows usage of scroll wheel in server listings? I sure can't think of it any and OMG, click and drag a single scroll bar down, OH no!!!

i'm going to try this tonight thanks

I use XFire to game with my friends. When I join a game it will log me in, I have to hit escape during the launch intro, but it auto loads the server that my friends are on.

Xfire works with no issues.

I never implied Gamespy and other game finders were awesome cool things without ads and other gay crap, only that the built in BF2 server browser stinks.

The next patch is supposed to fix the in-game browser. The last patch (1.12) did increase the responsiveness of it at least. They're coming along slowly with fixing it...

Its actually really easy. I have gotten this to work with both gamespy and xfire. You have to add the following into the advanced options +playerName NAME +playerPassword PASSWORD

Replace NAME and PASSWORD with your actual info. Once the game launches you will see that ad for 1 second, and then the map will automatically load.

I sure hope so. I'm ready for the next patch - oh yeah baby! :p

I don't have the Mcafee information. I had uninstalled and reinstalled it--getting rid of it soon--and it didn't have the info saved on the file that causes that popup.

WRONG WRONG WRONG.

I 've been using All-Seeing Eye for MONTHS now, with ALL patches, with NO problems.

I can select ANY BF2 or SF game from any of my desired filters in ASE, and it'll load the game into that map WITH NO PROBLEMS!

Sure, I have to see that pop-up ad from EA, but it lasts all of 5 seconds.

All-Seeing Eye is THE ONLY way to surf for BF2 servers. It is FAR SUPERIOR to the in-game browsers by an exponential magnitude. I haven't even seen that in-game browser in months...

Get All Seeing Eye. I can easily wheel scroll through any server listing with my MX1000 mouse wheel...

X-Fire also has a decent server list and bypasses the intro screens, of course all these third party applications do take up resources which might be better off used by this system heavy game.
