Opteron 165 3GHZ here I come!

what are the default volts for the Opteron 165...ive got mine at 2.4ghz with no changes in voltage, and was wondering how high is safe to go

1.55 on air and 1.65 on water.

wow... I've always thought 1.5 on air and 1.55 on water....

Anyways what's your stepping? 2.7ghz is good, especially at the voltage that your hitting. Good luck man! Keep in mind that it gets much hotter from this point forward..

Now I guess the real question is, can his mobo take the HTT up much higher. You might end up being limited by your mobo before you hit the limit of that 165. I'm jealous, it takes 1.6v on my 170 to make 2.7ghz.

edit: I do love my apex kit, my cpu never gets over 38c with it folding 24/7. How do you have it setup and what kind of temps are you getting?

Post pics of your CPU? I don't think there is a 165 that's week 0530. 3Ghz will be really hard with your motherboard.

i dunno guys, but i guess i just got lucky, my 165 is a CCB1E 0550VPMW stepping and using this NF41 EVGA mobo, i am running 300x9, 2.7Ghz Prime stable 6+ hours at 1.475v, thats barely above stock voltage, and i have not seen over 44*c full load either....which means my Zalman 7000CUB HSF is doing the job nicely

i have met another guy with a CCB1E stepping 165, and he has it running 2.8Ghz at 1.5v, he's the one that recommended the CCB1E stepping to me, so thats when i went to Monarch and had them pick out for me :)

getting past 300Mhz is gonna be the issue, not the temp

when will people start relaizing that cooling how effect on what kind of voltage you can run thru your shit. high voltage will kill your CPU regardless of your cooling...its called electromigration.
on a .09 CPU i wouldnt go past 1.5v01.55v 1.6 and above is getting too close for any kind of comfort zone.

Any pics of the CPU yet?

I'm 100% positive it's a 0530 because I specifically paid for that stepping. It came in a retail box the other day and that's the first thing I looked for. Once I get my watercooling kit and take off the XP-90 to install the water block I'll take a snap at it.

why is this cpu harder to overclock than the opty 146? Ive had mine up to (stable) at 3.1Ghz with 1.52v, 315HTTx10 and this is on air with an XP-120.

Is there something im missing?

Well, you have a single core. Mine is a dual core.

It's not that its harder to overclock just that it has a lower top speed. The reason it doesn't overclock as nicely as your 146 is because they are two completely different proc.

well, considering a 2.6-2.7Ghz dual core Opty or X2 stomps any single core Opty or A64 at 3Ghz as far as raw performance numbers, Sandra CPU Arithmetic, 3DMark 06 CPU tests, etc.......i'd say it not as hard if you look at the performance gained instead of raw speed

i have gotten alot of the same type of remarks from the guys i bench with that have 146's and 148's at 3Ghz and my 2.7 is laying them out with ease

LOL, how do you bench with someone? A/S/L? Cyber bench?

Where I come from, benching with someone means hitting the weights while your buddy spots and visa-versa. :p

As already stated his is a dual core which hinders the top overclock.
Also your cpu uses a 10x multi the 165 uses a 9x multi. Makes top speeds harder to hit because of mobo limitations.

So, Mr. Slime at what speed are you at? How long will you force us to wait for results?

So like I said, I ordered the water cooling unit and paid to have it shipped 2nd day air. Guess what happens the next morning, I get an email and says that they will ship the watercooling unit GROUND and my arctic silver via 2nd day air. So I paid 13.84 to have a stick of arctic silver shipped 2nd day air. Beats me. Anyways, I got a good price on the Apex Ultra Kit for 198.XX shipped with a coupon and it's coming next Wednesday, which means I'll have it up and running the next week. Sad... I know. But I'll definitely post results for YOU GUYS!

Wow, that AS better be ultra-1337!

sorry to hear that.

I did not know monarch will allow you to choose stepping

Did you have to pay extra for that

I would like to get an Opty 165 and was wondering if anyone can explain this date code, stepping code thing you are discussing? I am guessing that certain ones have been used and found to be the better overcockers and this is why they are being specifically orderd.
Also I too am interested in how to order this from Monarch or any other site, and get them to send you a specific proc., hand picked? Any other additional info you may have would be appreciated and thanks in advance for any replies.

Most places don't let you choose stepping/week. www.tankguys.biz is one of the few.

lol well seesh hurry it up will ya?
PS- what kinda water did ya order ?

Hey man, it wasn't my fault they turned my 2nd day ship order into GROUND. Sheesh. :p And if you actually cared to read my first post on this thread you'll know that I ordered an Apex Ultra. :)

ahh gotcha lol i did read the first post, but that was likea few days ago...lol too lazy to go back

Which is caused by heat as well, not the voltage itself (although yes, the voltage of course has something to do with it). With proper cooling you can run those voltages for several years (by then, who cares? Youll have upgraded) before any issues with EM happen.
