Why am I hitting a wall at HTT 240?

Im working on my buddies system:

A64 939 3200+ Venice
MSI K8N Neo4-f
2x512 corsair value ram
OCZ Modstream 450
6800GS

I have switched the SATA ports, switched the DIMMS around (they can do 240 3-4-4-8 easy, but i keep them around 200 to see how far the CPU goes...)

I have never OC'd an nF4 or any PCI-e board if that makes a difference.

I just cant get over 240...240 is prime stable, any more = no POST...

Thanks.

Because that is as fast as it will run under those conditions.
Care to elaborate? I realize that is as fast as i can get it to go

What do you want me to say? Read the OC sticky at the top of the forum (you know, the one that says "AMD OVERCLOCKING GUIDE" and use it step by step, so you can narrow down which part is your limit. You can then answer your own question and maybe even learn something.

People post vague questions with no data and expect others to use their psychic powers to diagnose why their machine wont overclock any more. And then have the nerve to wonder why they get smart ass remarks.

:rolleyes: -> you

i see ur running a divider...mayb u need to increase voltage on ur cpu slightly or tell us the temps? so we know whether your temps are too high

what HTT multiplier are you running? Keeping your HTT multiplier too high is an easy way to hit a wall like that. Normally you'll start to see a decline in the stability of the system...but if it's fully stable and then you move one more HTT higher I doubt it's something like an actual CPU cap...because you'd be able to at LEAST boot at a higher OC and just not have much stability...check your HTT multiplier and voltage...and as many other BIOS setting as you can get ahold of.

Ive tried both 3x and 4x...

im not new to overclocking, and have gotten boards of mine with this CPU and memory up to 305x9 stable. thats why im so confused.everything im doing is correct, so i was wondering if it was like SATA ports or a broken AGP/PCI lock or something like that...

do these boards have that nv/ati speedup thing?

When you set a divider, CHECK YOUR TIMINGS!

Speaking from experience. I hit a wall at 240 because my RAM was working too fast. I set a RAM divider, and I couldn't run at 240 anymore because as it turns out, my nF4 motherboard didn't set the timings right and set tRAS to 2T instead of 4T. a simple correction there and I got it past 240 easy.

That, or it IS possible that the board itself will just not go any higher...I've seen it before, and wouldn't be surprised if that's what it was.

hm...i will definatly double check that...
