UK shafts people with computer prices. And dvd prices too. Like if a DVD is about $15 in USA, its nearly 15 pounds in UK.
Part of it is the nearly 20% built in sales tax they add into the retail price, but that doesn't account for the whole differance.

Back on topic: Its quite possible we are seeing the first "real" launch of a next gen product from ATI. Always before they have promised to have it and didn't have it, or had it in a month after the reviews (i.e. paper launches). Nvidia has been showing them up in that area. My guess is an NDA expires very shortly as we will see reviews abound.

I'm guessing this card will beat everything in the reviews. Until nvidia releases thier next product in a couple months, then they will be on top again. And around it goes, never ending, one beats the other, then the other beats. :)

As for fines and legal issues with selling the card first. There's no "law" per say about distributers/resellers/retailers selling stuff early (same with books, movies, games). BUT, what happens is that if you dont follow what dates they tell you, they "fine" you. If you dont pay the "fine" then your company won't get anymore products to sell. So like if bestbuy breaks the street date for Quake 4, and they dont pay activision a fine, then activision could stop selling to bestbuy (or whoever is their distributer). And the distributer will pay down the "fine" to whoever the retailer is that broke the date. And if bestbuy doesn't have the latest greatest game next time one is released from them, then they will be hurting. Or perhaps they would get shipped the last shipment after everyone else got thiers. So usually they just pay the fine. Imagine if bestbuy didn't get many xbox 360 shipments, they would be seriously hurting. Breaking a date with something like that can have serious consequences.

Holy shnit! ATi just blew nV away assuming all the numbers ive seen are correct! holy crap!

And congrats on having a a card a week before leaunch LMAO

What is the weight on that thing. It looks like a hard one to watercool as well.

I highly doubt NV is worried. The 7900 card looks sick. Sick enough that when march comes.....i will be selling my x1900xtx.

IIRC any nV 6/7series mounts will work on these cards :)

Hey are any of you willing to rip the Heatsink off it and take some pics, especially of the memory chips and the gpu????? I want to see if the XT and XTX have hte same memory and if there are any other apparent physical differences.

Some nice quality pics of those areas would be great. I am also hoping my waterblock from my 7800 GTX fits, it looks like it should by the design.

Yeah, IMHO, ATI will have the crown for a couple months, then nvidia will take it away again :)

ATI also held it during the whole geforce 5 debacle, but since then, nvidia has been doing a great job.

I doubt you will see many here (who are ordering the card before the release date) willing to risk a $600 card like that. But if you wait for the hardocp review, I'm betting you just might see those pics :)

I got mine from digitallyunique. I called in the order however. The rep told me it would be Monday but it was sitting on my chair at work when I came in.

Thats insane, but then it doesn't suprise me.......we have been and will always be shafted when it comes to the price of any electronic goods....

And that's your own fault (not you personally, but most Europeans who have allowed a socialist agenda to permeate your culture). Electronics in Europe are taxed High on many fronts, then you get to pay VAT on top of that... It's not considered a necessity.

I will try when I get home tonight from game (roughly midnight..could be later). The box for it is HEAVY. I got the xt and not the xtx (I can probably overclock it to xtx speeds anyways).

for anyone whos wondering ,

i got it from ecost.com

, im sure mr editor here will let you know all the benchies

"unofficially" ofcourse

that's so unfair to the HW reviewers, what do you get in return for giving up your life for a few benchmark numbers? if there is ONE thing tomshardware can be commended for is saying NO MORE to NDA dates and dead lines.

Those two might be very even....The ATi Nvidia battle continues.

But maybe someone is putting water on it or some other form of aftermarket cooling. if only evga did my stepup sooner so i could sell my nvidia card i would have all sorts of pics of mine ripped apart for you :( .

how hard is it to run 3dmark06 or 3dmark05 .. maybe a timedemo .. something !! .. Feed the hungry

Well when you are at work and have prior engagements later, or are missing the required power connectors I imagine quite hard  Sheesh, haven't you read what the two who got the cards have posted?

I will see what I can do tonight (at work right now). The one problem with me and 3dmark2006 is that I have the DELL 30" LCD monitor and for some reason it will not work in 1280 x 1024 mode. I end up in 1280 x 800 mode. This does tend to SKU the benchmarks a bit. However, I did benchmark my GTX 512 card already..so I will be able to do a side by side comparison of the two cards.

Lol, Sorry to make it sound like i am an idiot but the plan was to stepup from my Current 7800 GTX 256 to the 512 which is coming due hopefully very soon. I am then going to buy the X1900XTX before I send off my 7800 GTX256 so that i have little to no downtime. then when i get the 512 card back I am going to put it on ebay!!!!! The way the numbers run I should make a profit off the 7800. I am also planning on eventually getting the new crossfire chipset board when it is released. (hopefully dfi releases one soon). I have always has a preference for ATI and i am more comfortable with there cards and the programs used to tweak and overclock them.

And, I am updating the sig as we speak.

The only question I have is what are the physical differences between the XT and the XTX. I am going to guess it is simply different memory at the most. If the memory is the same, or if some companies are using the ssame memory on them and all it requires is a bios flash, then I would get the XT.

Cooter

I figured you were going to do something like that :) As to the differences, it pretty much boils down to clocks. The XT runs at 625/1450 and the XTX runs at 650/1550. Everything else is exactly the same.

If you're talking about the standard GTX, then yes, ATI has quite a lead. I think things are going to be a lot closer once compared to the GTX 512 and I expect the 7900 GTX to clean up handily if the specs hold.

Kinda pointless to do a quick 3dmark06 run on the new card without doing a similar run in same machine on another card to compare it with. And if I had the new ATI card, I wouldn't wait around running benches on my old card, I'd throw that new baby in and go GAME! :)

Plus, say your previous card was a geforce 6, you'd have people complaining that you didn't run comparisons on a 7800. Or if you had a 7800, you'd have people complaining that you didn't compare it with a 512 meg version.

I dont think we will see many meaningful benches until we get the official reviews.
