3DMark06 - Two days time

I hope someone posts the score of 3DMark06 running on that Dell XPS Renegade with Quad-SLI.

My system is going to struggle to handle 06, it runs 05 like a peice of crap but I will run it anyway just for a laugh.

I am getting an x1800XL soon, hopefully that will help.

I went from a 9800pro to an x1800xl and it was a huge difference.

My 3dmark05 more than trippled. Went from 2500 to 8600.

Which may mean nothing for games.

There corrected you :) If the developers use those same methods, than those bottle necks could show up in games. But on the last part I do agree with you that both IHVs will optimize as good or bad, 3Dmark is still something that people and companys put stock in...

What really will tick me off is that the regular purchase will not have the ability to loop the demo like you could in 03 and 01 versions of the product. 05 you could only play the demo once and had to restart it by hand.

Apparently this and the right to use it publicly is the only difference you get for the $500.00.

I don't want to use mine as a public demo, but to run on my system all night long for a good system test. The frame rate tests are not sufficient as they don't run all the subsystems like the demo does (including the sound subsystem). Really a boooo to yooooo when the looping was removed.

It won't show up for years to come. Firstly no game will use the insane polycounts 3dmark06 uses in the near future. No game in the near future will use the amount of polycounts 3dmark05 uses. The only reason its around is because people put stock in it, There is no need for companies to tweak anything for 3dmark if people didn't pay attention to it.

I still have a headache from watching the 05 slideshow on my peice.

I know it means nothing in terms of "real world gaming", and I know that it's not a "true" test but I will still be a little sad to see a low score if I get one. =/

the program says, yeah look at me i know how to bog down ur graphics card. while our games have barely hit the 3dmark03 graphics standard

fear comes the closest, and look what it takes to run that at nice fps with eye candy

If you have 3DMark03 Professional, run it, and then run it again with these settings:

That can make 03 video card demanding again(post-processing is like HDR of a sort)

Son of a gun. My time is off. I thought today was the 18th. Damnit. My PC's clock was set to tommorrow. :p

What time does it come out tommorow ?

Cause it's the 18th in less than 6 hours.

At 6:00AM PST (pacific standard time), 9AM Eastern. (when i get up.)

I really, really, really, dislike these benchmark programs. They always make me look down on my video card that I paid good money for, and then I feel like i've made a shitty purchase, when I know in reality, that if I set my settings right on CSS and whatnot, I can get 60+ FPS performance, which is all that really matters to me.

bah, if it's like around half the score of previous generation, like 2003 was 8000 for me and the 2005 was like 3800 then maybe 2006 will be 1900. how sad.wonder what my thinkpad would score, like 0.0001 lol

Is it out yet? It's been Wednesday for 18 minutes here and I'm not seeing anywhere to DL it but I see someone has a score all ready.

I think they'll probably wait until the morning when it's Wednesday for everyone. :)

But they know there are gonna be people up waiting for it. I want it :(.

don't tell me people are counting down to it

Course they are, the e-penor ++ points for geting a high score are at stake. :p

Dunno why they just havn't named this wangmark and be done with it, bragging rights and nothing else.

Man, I can't wait to run this on my new X2 3800+ with 7800GT. My e-penis will be gainormous! :D

But seriously, I use 3D Mark to check out if my tweaks have helped performance. It's probably a retarded way of doing that though.

That's exactly how I use it. I think it's great for that. You can immediately tell if your fps is higher.

I'm also a benchmark/tech demo whore. I'll admit it....I love watching them. I'll even admit to buying games based on graphics alone, and then getting bored with them and not finishing...cough...doom3...cough... :D

I love tweaking, and getting a few more points, and I love showing off what my computer can do to non-pc friends. People are amazed by 3dm05 graphics. 06 will be even better.

I have no problem with people bragging about their enthusiast systems performance, I just wish they'd do it with games, which actually means something, rather than an arbitrary number that means nothing.

But that arbitrary number is easily understood and interpreted by others.

Not saying I disagree with you Brent, but 3DMark is a useful diagnostic and at least somewhat useful as a comparison tool.

However, I understand your frustation. I have to deal with guys posting enormous HDTach cores as "proof" that RAID-0 is faster in Disk Storage Systems. It's true here and there: High synthetic benchmark scores != high application level performance.

It is useful as a diagnostic tool and for doing self comparisons perhaps, but for comparisons to other GPU's (not of the same type) and to comparisons to other peoples computers, it means nothing. And it really means nothing in terms of determining game performance.

In fact, if you are going to overclock it is still best to use games to test for overclocking stability since they will act differently than 3DMark and possibly show or not show artifacts where 3DMark may or may not. If you want to see how well a system tweak has worked, intense games are the best way to test that, since that's what you'll actually be using your video card for.
