hi guys.. been playing with my new ati x1800 xt. have a strange problem...

in ati ccc... overdrive section, it is not showing my current clock speeds.
just shows my requested clocks. where it is supposed to show current, it just shows mhz...weird.

i have used the overdrive slider to overclock, and im running stable at max... 690 - 800

i got a 3dmark05 score of 8860

what could be causing my current clocks in ccc to not show??

is my 3dmark05 about right??

Also... if i use ati tool to increase my fan speeds to keep temps down on my xt, is there a problem with that.. is it bad for the card to run at 50-60% all the time??

thanks for any input... much appreciated

WOW..I would love to see a screen shot of that!!!!!

I don't believe the numbers with CCC. I'm just not sure. I can also max my CCC OC to 690 / 800. But I get pretty much no gain at all from OCing this way. However using ATI tool to OC to 695 / 785 I get an improvement of just under 1,100 3D Marks.

Edit: well now I see why I was getting no gain with CCC. The actual clocks are not changing when I apply changes. I don't understand CCC at all. ATI tool works minus the fact that it won't change clocks before volts when going down in speeds.

One thing to remember is that using other programs like Atitool or Atitraytools will affect CCC.

For example AtiTool disables 3d clock mode. So CCC can't increase clocks when going into 3d. It disables the ati2evxx.exe processes.

AtiTraytools will disable the cli.exe processes.

Make sure you all read the help guides for these programs...

so...when i open and run ati tools to increase my fan speeds, my overdrive ccc overclocks will not be in effect. ill be back at stock speeds??

Damn straight. Because ATiTools disables ati2evxx.exe from running at startup, profiles for 2D and 3D are not in effect, which means setting your 3D clocks in CCC will affect the actual clock speed stored in the 3D profile, but it will not be loaded due to the profiles not being in use...thanks to ATiTool. Get that? :p
TrayTools disables cli.exe, which is the tray icon that is automatically enabled with CCC. It lets you easily access resolutions, advanced settings, refresh rates, etc of your ATi card, but isn't needed with TrayTools since...well, since TrayTools is just that. A program that sits in your task tray.
Normally, I'd recommend TrayTools to set fan profiles, voltages, overclocking, etc, except I don't think it supports the X1800 yet...so you're fresh outta luck if you wanna set separate clock speeds and what-not. It's full steam ahead, or nothing, I'm afraid.

ok...so if i wanna use ccc overdrive to overclock my x1800xt, how can i also increase my fan speed at the same time, if ati tool cancels my ccc overclock???

ideally, i would like to run my fan at 75-100% when overclocked and gaming. then drop the fan speed back down to default during windows.

also... do i need to open a profile in ccc every time i restart my pc to activate my overdrive settings.... or will ccc automatically load my settings on windows startup?

i keep reading conflicting info on this...ive read in several places that ati tool is not useable to overclock the x1800xt..

No, it definately works for me. Make sure you download ATITool Beta 11 or newer.

RivaTuner has a setting for fan control that loads at startup, with out affecting CCC...

dunno bout that... this is what i normally do...i boot pc, open ccc, pick profile ive saved with overdrive/overclocked settings, activate the profile, close ccc, open ati tool, go to fan control, increase fan speed, apply, minimize ati tool.

now, when i ctrl, alt, del and bring up windows task manager... i have running... ati2evxx.exe, cli.exe and atitool.exe as well as other things. however, point is...ati tool does not seem to cancel out any ccc settings etc...

i also experimented further by... running 3dmark05 after pc boot... no ccc overdrive, no ati tool. i get a score of around 8500. i then again reboot, open ccc, activate overdrive profile, and run 3dmark05..score 8900...so overclock is running. then, i open ati tool, increase fan speed, apply, minimize ati tool, run 3dmark05 again...8900.
SO, ATI Tool does not seem to be canceling or affecting ccc overdrive settings. at least not that i can tell.
