an X300 SE.

Talk about a huge difference in performance! I can play F.E.A.R. at 320x240 min details now... bleh. I really just did it to get a good price on my 7800 before the new cards come out later this month and kill the resale value. When X1900XT is here, I'm jumping on it and returning this stupid X300 SE.

I can't wait, I hope those extra shaders make F.E.A.R. smoother because that's one hell of a cool game!

That actually is smart. The refresh will drop the value of the 7800 series, so it's a good thing ya got it off your hands .

I just built a custom machine at the shop with an 1800XT-512. Beautiful card, and actually made me consider going to the dark side briefly. I'll be curious about the performance of the 1900's.

I don't think its goona a big jump on the Extra Shaders. But one thing I hops is ATI get the heat down. These X1800XT's run hot a mofo and I am barely touching the voltage at this point :p

Mine isn't all that bad...hitting 67C load. Or is that bad?

What's these extra shaders? Are hte x1900s gonna have a new feature or somethign?

I hope the X1900XT improves over the X1800XT a lot, as I might get one. That or a G71. BTW, Im am upgrading from a X800XT.

Oh, and on topic: It must suck to game on a x300... Hopefully the new cards come out soon. ;)

hmm if were only going to see a 25%increase maximum then the enw gen is going to be a worse upgrade from the current gen upgrade we saw...

hehe, thats nothing compared to my gtx, i hit 80C max wen i run 3dmark05...my baby is OC'd but still, thats damn hot imo

The new cards coming in a month or two is a refresh
not a new generation.

but what cooling are you using, and if stock what fan speed setting
:p

Stock cooling w/ Arctic Silver 5. I've manually set the fan to run at 100% all the time. Thankfully, the P180 is able to dampen it. Somewhat. :p

What sucks is that I'm not gaming. There's no way I can stomach < 1 FPS in Quake 4 when my 7800 was 90+

I don't get how those extra shaders on the X1900 are going to really help, but hopefully it will make the X1800s cheaper at the very least.

EWWWW!! LOL :p That stock fan is loud at 100% :D

SE on any card (pretty much) = teh suckiest of the sucky suck edicions. Frankly, I would go intel extreme onboard graphics before an X300se. At least you would get a motherboard with it :D.

X300se = waste of cash. But I understand why ya did it ;).

i played doom 3 on an x300se at futureshop once... oh good god. it was like 12 FPS in an empty hallway without shadows and any fun stuff and then bam, demon pops up, game crashes, we walk away.

As CleanSlate said, "se" stands for Sucks Edition, but I think I would still choose it before using an Intel Extreme :)

well going back to the x1900 discussion on page 1 (sorry), I currently have an x850 XT and I dont care who makes the card, I look for performance and price - and I was upset by the competition for the 7800 series - I mean, I thought the x1800, although a great card, wasn't worth it at all - and while I like ATi and nVidia the same, I would have easily taken a 7800 over the new x1xxx series

but with the x1900 coming out, that might be better top end competition dropping the price of the lower end cards (including x1800), possibly turning me on to ATi again

so does this sound logical at all? because I know that ATi won't be the only GPUs going down in price soon

i mean the market changes so much, like q2 06 who will be on top? who knows, I'm looking for the future right now

5900SE didn't suck back in the day. ;). Maybe because it was apart of the NV3X series, but it was still not bad..

Zinn I like the name you have I use Zinn2b most the time . After Howard Zinn a great man . I am a little concerned that your going to return that card after you used it for no good reason . Thats a little dishonest wouldn't you say . But thats fine differant strokes for differant Folk. But you really should change your user name as it dishonors a wonderful human being. . I am not flaming you in the least. Google Howard Zinn and read about him and see if maybe I might be correct.

lol, who said anything about returning it? it's a 45 dollar card, it wouldn't be worth the return shipping (and 15% restocking fee) to return it to newegg.

and i apologize for disembowling the illustrious Howard Zinn with my username, but Zinn is the name of a computer game hero i made up when i was programming QBASIC at age 8. It's just a coincidence. you're funny.

Good evening to you sir! :p

[edit] oh i guess i did say i was gonna return it. well i was young and naive at the time, and i'm much more mature and honest now.

One problem with that is that you would have to use an Intel cpu

:p

I take exception to that remark ! I am on my wife's Pc an old outdated P43.2C with 1gig of DDR BH5 and x800xtpe.

Have you seen the patches that came out recently for the new dual cores for some games ?

Her old 3.2C performs rather well in those games now compared to any . I say again any single core AMD 64. Is't HT a wonderful thing.

And more a more games are being updated to multi threads Intel has been busy!

The sad thing is I don't see anything changing :(.
