I'm just building a essentially a new pc

Asus A8N-E
When I try and boot the system the bios will not detect my Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 HDD
(60gb sata/150 hdd) It will detect another sata and my IDE Hdds that I have but not this one. The maxtor has been in use on another computer for a while and I know it works

I've updated to bios 1010 and no luck changed the serial cable and which SATA header i used on the board all to no avail.

any ideas would be greatly appreciated

thx

Try it in the other computer again, chances are it's dead.

Maxtor 9/10 SATA drives have SERIOUS PROBLEMS with AMD and Intel sata controllers and chipsets. I'm getting rid of my new Maxtor 10 250gb drive because of these issues. Good riddance Maxtor - you used to be great now you are history.

Firmware updates *might* fix the problem, but I wouldn't trust my data to it.

DO NOT INSTALL THE NFORCE IDE DRIVERS. They screw up IDE and SATA drives. Just use the standard Microsoft IDE drivers that come with XP. Turn off NCQ in windows also. Your Maxtor drive should work then.
