my bro uses an intel 3.6ghz proc and while he games on cs:s and such, frames can drop as low as 30fps when theres a lot of action going on in the screen, while i never go under 70-80 frames, could this be his intel proc? my guess is that hyper threading keeps the current games from utilizing the cpu at 100% since task manager reports that its only using about 50% but im really not sure

also his video cards an 850xtpe which should be more than enough to run cs:s at higher frames

Depends on his available ram, resoultion, detail settings, AA, AF, HDR, and any back ground apps. In CS:S with my p4 3ghz Northwood (533FSB), 1gb ram and 6800 i can play at 1280x1024 2xAA 2xAF HDR on with everything on high and never dip below low 40's in fire fights. Something seems weird there. Lowest ive ever seen it go at those settings for me was about 35..in a zombie server with alot of bots too.(Oh well all the more reason for me to get Yonah and a desktop board :D) Something seems weird there...report back with his settings.

hm he sets cs:s at 1024x768, aa 4x, af 8x, hdr

even though 4x/8x seems a bit high the 850xtpe couldnt be too far away from the gtx i would think? his also runs at 533fsb and has 2gbs ram

edit: oh yeah and here are my settings that keeps my frames above 70 - 1680x1050. aa 4x af 8x so i dono

Yeah, there's something definitely fishy about that one. I have an X850XTPE and have it at higher settings: 6xAA and 16xAF and at a resolution of 1280x1024 and CS:S rarely goes below 50... and I have a 3.0 GHz P4 Prescott.

I wonder if he has properly installed in the intel chip set drivers

You sure he has HT? I dont think you can have HT with a 533fsb. If so, it has to be the processor most likely.

With the system in my rig, I can run 1024x768 with 2x AA and 8x AF and never dip below 40.

The P4 3.06 Ghz, 533 FSB was the only 533FSB processor with hyperthreading...

Oh I didnt know that. I just thought to have HT you must have the 800fsb.

I currently have the P4 3.06 Ghz 533FSB and i do have Hyperthreading. Though it is still time for a upgrade.

o oops i was unclear about something (i really dono much about intel procs :p) i think his rams rated at 533mhz not sure what his procs fsbs rated at, i guess 800? hm :D o well anyways thanks for the input :)

A 3.6 GHz Pentium 4, I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) would HAVE to be 800 MHz FSB if it was that speed at stock. Although some programs will report it as 200 MHz (It's really 4x200MHz).

Anyway, it's not his processor. More than likely the problem is software related.

im on an AMD 3500 with a x850xt pe and i play at 1600x1200 with full hdr 6aa/16af and i never drop below 40 in huge fights with nades n smoke n loads of people on the screen...

What do you want for your 3.06 HT :D?

Havnt decided what im going to do with my current system, it may become a second linux box or go to my little brother (He is still using a 2ghz Northwood with a 400FSB). Looking at the system in your sig you must want it as a collectors item or something ;) . I have to admit it was a hard to find cpu a year ago, i can only imagine what its like now.
