I was lookinbg at this one: Gigabyte 3D Cooler-Ultra GT. What is the best combo in your guys' opinion. Thanks ahead for your suggestions and feedback.

The XP-90 cools all the computers in my house. Does a great job and is usually significantly less expensive than the XP-120 ($24.99 at svc.com).

but the added bonus of using an xp120, it cools your ram and it allows for the use of a quieter fan. also, the Scythe Ninja, Scythe Shogun, TT Sonic Tower, TT Big Typhoon and the xp90C are all great coolers.

Consult the guide ;)

That said, I would suggest a Thermalright SI-120, perhaps with a low-speed 120mm Panaflo.

Zalman 7700Cu is pretty decent as well. It's what keeps me running stable, even down here in hot s. texas and a warmer than average room temp....

Relatively cheap cooler too...

I like the Scythe NInja heatsink with a Nexus 120mm silent fan. It keeps my rig at the same temps as the stock AMD cooler with a gentle fan speed of 1000rpm (as opposed to the AMD leaf-blower).

1000

xp120 and 120x38mm panaflo medium flow. best combo period, quiet, and cools GREAT

XP-120 doesn't even do a better job than the XP-90. No point in cluttering your case with that monstrosity. That is why I went from that to the 90.

Zalman CNPS9500 LED.
PROS: It has strong cooling capabilities, LED fan, unique look, very queit, can direct air flow to best exhaust point.

CONS: price $60+/-

Yeah, but you use a 120MM fan with the XP-120 which means you can use a fan that pushes as much or more air than a 92MM and is quieter.

this is what i've seen for the best 3:

scythe ninja
thermaltake big typhoon
zalman cnps9500

big typhoon is very quiet, the ninja can be quiet with a good quiet fan. ninja and the zalman blow across the cpu instead of down at it, so they don't help cool the motherboard and other parts around the cpu like the typhoon does, but they can help airflow in the case to keep down ambient temps. i think the zalman is the worst of the three, but its also the smallest of the three. and worst only means like 1 or 2 degrees C difference.

those three are the most commonly debated as the best coolers. if space is an issue, the xp-90c is the winner. for value coolers, the xp-90 is the winner, or amd's stock heatpipe cooler that comes with high end dual core cpu's and fx cpu's if you buy one from someone else who bought a retail cpu and isnt using the heatsink.

To be honest, I think the XP-90c would outperform those. Not sure what the SN does, but for that freaking size, it's not worth it. It probably hurts airflow in your case at that size.

no, the reason it's that big is that the fins are spaced pretty far apart, so it doesn't hurt airflow at all. and "for that size, it's not worth it" makes me think that ur paying rent or something on the space in ur case :p

It just clutters it up IMO and is grotesque. Are there any tests showing the temp difference between an xp-90c and the 3x the size of it scythe ninja that owning the SN are justified? I know it can boil to personal preference, but still, it's huge. It defeats the purpose of cooling to have something that large in the middle of the case, blocking air flow, which I still feel it does. Bigger always makes it harder to manage wires and other components as well.

It's personal preference really though, not knocking you or others for prefering it, just giving something to think about to the OP.

i'll give you the it's harder to manage wires point, and the performance of the 2 are probably close enough to be insignificant. but it definitely won't obstruct airflow, as the fan (and who the hell's going to run it passive?) blows across the cpu like the cnps9500 instead of down into it, which aids airflow. but then your motherboard might get kind of toasty.

personally i'd go w/ the thermaltake big typhoon if it fits, but that thing is HUGE. i saw it at fry's, and at first i was like ok its not that bad, it has a 120mm fan it should b like that (from the angle i looked from, the front of the package basically only shows the fan, couldnt see its depth at all), and i picked it up to look and i was like HOLY CRAP BIG! then again, it's still smaller than the ninja :p

The 9500 can be mounted to a 939 board without mods, if I understand correctly, meaning no special backplates, no removing the mobo during the install.

What about the others?

those are indeed great coolers.

I also wanted to add the Thermalright HR-01 (high-rise 01)to this list, which is thermalrights passive cooling solution. I contacted them, and they said it should be 1-3C cooler than the XP-120, if setup correctly with 120mm fan. And there are no known compatability issues with any motherboards, atm.

i wish i didnt go with water, cause i wanna try all these new hsfs. the HR-01 looks awesome.

I just replaced a XP120 with a 1600 rpm fan with the Freezer 64 Pro today and it's really nice. It uses the stock retainer and takes up less room in my case and the temps are 3 to 4 C cooler than the XP120 was whick really supprized me. I am overclocking a Opteron and is nice and cool 34 under light load after being on all day and this is on a Abit board which usually reads higher than say Asus boards by about 8 to 10C .

right that made my mind up right there. *orders freezer 64 pro for opteron 144*

wow, i looked at the thermalright hr-01, and have one thing to say... scythe ninja anyone?

some place's review, i forgot where it was, has it performing pretty much the exact same as the ninja. i dunno which i'd take, cuz the hr-01 is thinner, but the ninja u can mount the fans to any of the 4 sides, hr-01 only 2 of em.

Another vote for the si-120. With my 2000rpm (100ish cfm) Silverstone fan it keeps my opty under 40c load @ 1.68ish vcore. Lightweight also.

the bigger fan of the the xp 120 vs xp 90 helps cool other components such as ram also

Grammar skills are a good thing
:p
well, the grammer's perfectly fine if u see that he means "know" not "no". but at least put the k in next time, cuz no is a completely different word.

I knew what he meant, but that is no excuse for complete lack of grammar....and we wonder why other countries are so far ahead of the USA in schooling... :)

scythe ninja or Thermalright Xp-120

maybe a zalman?

Zalman 7000 or 7700 is indeed pretty good, but not as good as the ones you mentioned or the Thermaltake Big Typhoon....and the down blowing ones typically cool your mobo stuff better than the Ninja....very nice if you have less than stellar airflow in your case, most don't...

Just to be different(and they're the ones I run)

Zalman CNPS-9500 #1
Thermaltake Big Typhoon #2

xp 90 is very good

Xp or SI 120 is even better... probably best air coolers but pricey + u have to buy fan.

Zalmans are very good and a close second.

Everything else I wouldn't even bother with, though....... those new vapochills look interesting. The ones with the flimsy see through case.

Big Typhoon beats out the Zalman, while a great cooler, the Zalman is NOT a heatpipe unit.....

Your methodology is very flawed since you have not used "any of the other models" that you claim are no good....

I've used Thermaltake b4 and various of their products and know ppl who have used other of their products... Sorry... they suk and especially for the prices they charge. I don't need to own the product to know how good they are. Friends can own them.

I'd take the Zalman any day over any tt.

I've never used any Thermalright products before though. But I've seen the results and they are good.
