Depends on your budget.

The Thermaltake Big Typhoon is quite a quiet cooler and one of the top (if not the top) performing air cooler at this time. My top 3 choices right now for a new HSF if I was gonna go with something worthwhile would be (in order of preference):

1) Zalman CNPS9500
2) Tt Big Typhoon
3) Thermalright XP90C /w a decently quiet fan

Reason I place the Zalman on top is because of 1 - looks and 2 - the fact that you can situate it so that it's fan expells the warm air towards the back of your case, where it can be exhausted by your cases rear fan(s). The Big Typhoon is probly a little quieter, and might prove to give you a temperature advantage over the CNPS9500 of a couple degrees...but I'd rather have something that looks a lot nicer and that'll help a bit more with case temps if I can help it and it doesn't mean sacrificing too much performance.

Stick with the Zalman 9500 and make sure to get ArticSilver5!!! Also, do yourself a favor and get the Artic Silver thermal compound cleaner kit! It's like $12 and WORTH EVERY PENNY if you take HSF's on/off.

I run the 9500 and my Idle temps on an overclocked Opteron 175 are about 37*C, full load 44*C with the 9500. :D

Get the LED version for 200 added MeGaHuRtZ and more bling :p

I vote for TT Big Typhoon. One of my buddies had one of these, kept his X2 @ 2.8+ Ghz around 44C loaded.

1) Zalman CNPS9500 WITH TEH LEDZZZZ FO TEH BLING
2) Thermalright XP120 with a 120mm fan
3) scythe ninja

what Ledz u guys talking about for zalman? Btw what cleaning kit Link to both on egg PLEASE QUICK!

Umm, You can do a search and find them quite easily. The 9500 comes in two editions, non LED and LED. Most retailers only carry the LED edition and you can tell since it has it in the description.

The cleaning kit is made by Arctic Silver. I'll let you do an easy search for them, it's the only way you will learn. :p

if you don't want to bother looking for the LEDless version of the CNPS9500 you can just take the fan apart and take out the LEDs. took me about 10 min.

It isn't that bright anyway, but do what you must :D

No, it isn't...but I probly would anyway...personal preference I guess, but I'm not a huge fan of tacky "neons" inside a case.

If you're not overclocking the heatpipe HSF is plenty on a 4400+ I have my 4400+ running at 1.25vcore and at stock speed my 100% dual core load on the stock HSF is only 38C
Assuming good case ventilation which you'll have with the P-180

If you really want a new cooler. For the P-180 I'd use the CNPS-9500. Even though I have the Big Tyhpoon in my P-180 I would have gone the 9500 route if I had to do it again.

I'll just play the devil's advocate here and say, you might consider water...

Who said anything about "cheapo watercooling kits"? Certainly not me.

I just said water...If he's interested in water then looking in the watercooling thread for ideas would be not only warranted but a wise idea.

High-end air-cooling > Cheapo watercooling "kits"

I doubt the OP would want to spend the money, but "water" isn't restricted to cheapo kits. A proper custom water loop is untouchable by any air solution.

This is true, but 99% of people would still rather have a high performance/fairly silent air cooler for their system instead.

Great cooler. I currently run 44-45C on idle, with about 54-55C while primin' on both cores. Very happy with this cooler. Not soo thrilled with the case though. Cable management is a bitch (gettin real close to gettin another Lain-Li case, with prev. one being a PC-65B)

I would say the xp120 with the way those mosfets are positioned.
Using the XP-120 blocks off DIMM #1. You can only use 2,3 & 4.
