just wondering..how do i kno when/if my ram dies?

when i Ctrl+Alt+Del and check under the Performance tab and under CPU Usage it goes from 0-7 then sometimes to 0-7 then 15% <--that normal?

under PF Usage it stays at 156-154 MB <- that normal/good?

Note- i have 2.50 gb ram

When memory is "dead" your computer usually doesnt boot. If it does it crashes in 5min lol.

i downloaded Memtest86+ V1.65 ISO version and ran the memtest...i let it run and it ran FOREVER ...an hour ...i got tired of waiting and restarted my computer (took the cd out first). it didnt show any errors but why does it take so damn long? jeeze

i was away from the computer after 10 mins and came back 50 mins later and it was still running...it was only Test #8, dont really rememebr the test % or the pass % , but after a while i saw it went down to 2 % on both the test and the pass % so i was like fuck it and end it.

youre fine... in fact, i have no idea why you thought you ram was dead from you not using a lot of CPU time.. or the fact that your page file was small...

youre just not running a lot of intensive programs.. why did you think your ram was dead?

sup lithium , i dunno i just had this feeling.i started thinking its dead after i cant play any online age of empires 3 games...i will host a game and wait ,then someone will come in..the game will start the 5 second launch thing..5-4-3-2-1-0 then ..nothing....wait a while...click cancel,,,a message pops up saying "Lost Connectiong to ESO"

and everytime i turn the computer on this stupid "activate windows" thing keep poping up...say something like.. "since u bought ur computer alot of the hardware has change bla bla" what is this? im bout to call them tomroow and tell them the shit is anoyying

and just to kno so when it does die i kno for sure its bye bye

oh and about my cpu performance thing when u push Ctrl+alt+dlete...i just expected it that when u get 2 gb of ram the cpu usage would stay at 0% or atleast 1% .

sometimes when i Ctrl+ALT+DELTE and check it, it would say 60-70% or so cpu usage for like a quick second/glance then goes back down to the normal %tage

with faulty RAM, you'd probably notice system crashes, BSOD and trouble booting up. Maybe there's something wrong with your network, or the game I dunno. It doesn't seem like it would be RAM though.

MemTest86 is designed to run forever. If it doesn't show any errors within a few passes, the RAM is probably fine, but just because there are no errors on one pass doesn't mean the RAM doesn't have any errors. It needs to go through many times to test everything.

But an hour is usually fine. Depends on the system though (I've had an old comp that took over 5 hours to complete one pass, and newer systems go through a few passes in 20 mins)

Having more RAM doesn't lessen the load on the CPU (unless the page file was being used constantly).. the CPU still has to do work.

Whenever there's a big hardware change, this will come up. Just another way to prevent piracy. All you have to do is call up the number provided, and tell someone that you recently upgraded. Also I think this comes up when a product key is used too many times (someone said it was around 20-25 but I forget).
Just curious... this message comes up after you added 2GB of RAM? or what was changed?

hope that helps.

An hour? Then there's no point in running it. Best thig to do is run Memtest overnight, as sometimes errors won't show until later. To be honest, it doesn't make much sense to let it run for less than 32 passes -- this is the number of random tests that Memtest will use, so to pass all of those you need to run it for a waaaaay longer time than most of us do. I agree, it's a long time, and if you ran it for an hour without errors then that's a good sign, but it's by no means long enough. I usually do 8 hours in Memtest, then boot into WIndows and run OCCT and Super PI 32M test.

windows memtest is cool too.. i find it can catch errors that memtest86 sometimes misses

also.. you can actually do stuff with your rig in the meantime, not just sit there at a blue screen :p

yea the activate windows came along after i put in 2 gb of ram.it didnt come up when i put in the 6800 gt oc . thanks alot guys i guess ill run memtest overnight tonight

what is BSOD?

BSOD = Blue Screen Of Death, happens when system crashes

(scroll down a bit for pics)

it's strange how you didn't get that message when you upgraded your video card though. My roommate upgraded his card from a 9800XT to a X850, and got the message. I'm not sure how exactly it works.
