This is my last thread pretaining to this. I am going to be getting a dell 2005, and I would like to have the xl, seeing as to how it's cheaper. I will play the oldies like HL2, D3, FC, and CoD at 1600x1050 with the XL with probably 4xaa/8xaf. Then for the newer shit, like CoD2, and FEAR I will bump down to 1280x800. Does this sound like a good plan, or should I just fork out the extra 200 for the XT. <-- I really don't want to do that.

As far as the vid card goes, get a connect3d vid card and unlock it to x800xt speeds. Only cost you $180 and 5 min of time to flash it.

Anyone Else. Lord Exoldia?

I have the 2005 and the XT. As you know the native resolution is 1680x1050, running lower than that is not optimal. But personally I cant tell too much of a difference. That said, I would still get the XT. The overclock ability and the extra ram are worth it if you ask me. Everyone is over hyped by the 7800GTX 512, and its a fast card, but the XT when overclocked will beat it and it seems to have a lot of room for overclocking. For longevity I would spend the few extra $ and get the XT, but you will not be dissappointed with the XL either. Hell for that matter the GT and GTX256 would be great solutions as well.

Bottom line: If money is tight, get the XL, and save up for the next gen boards.

Dude by all means get the X1800XL. The only thing I'm concerned about is the fact that some games are really using that 512Gddr ram well. This may not be a big issue but maybe in 2006 mid to end of the year be a huge issue. What ever happened to the 512 XL that I saw during launch. That would be a perfect card for you as it's in between both. I don't see you kicking yourself for picking that card in mid to late 2006.

Either way I hope your choice keeps you happy at least until the end of 06 and you have already pwnd Unreal 2007.

I'll have the cash to upgrade then. I just am buying a car soon so, Insurance asn shit is going to cost me for a while, so I have to have this card last me at least 8months.

You would be hella happy with the X1800 anything. They are great cards. You are in a great position. if only 8 months is what you need then the X1800 is the way to go unless... you can get your hands on a 7800GTX 256MB OC version which if my intuition tells me the truth will be dropping price real soon because that 512GTX is coming in 4 days. Once it's priced like the X1800XT which shouldn't be too long. Maybe by end of this month you can get a 7800GTX 256 for $400 ish. I think that would be a better card for the $$$ than the XL 256MB. If you do alot of vivo and video editing get the ATI between these 2. If you just run games and want playable fps around 1600x1200 or 1680x1050 or even the uber 1920x1200 I suggest to get a killer deal on a 256GTX OC @ or around $400.00. That's my advise on this subject. Good luck with whatever you choose.

I prefer ATi, these day's. Better Drivers, Dunno though. I may end up a nVidiot...not like that's a bad thing :p . I like ATi/Nvidia, the x1800 just seems to have better features.

Go with you gut then. X1800XL it is. I'll see you in the Unreal 2007 Servers!!! :D

Son-of-a bitch. I am now debating between the x1800xl $400, or the GTX $460. I think I am just going to go for the XL, if I hit the GTX then i'll go, slightly higher clocked gtx only $30 more, and then I'm like OOOh, GTX KO for 60 More, and then I'll end up back at the x1800xt, or 512mb GTX, or 7800GT SLI. I am done debating, XL it is. Thanks Lord.

I've had my x1800xl for about 2 weeks now and I am pleased with the card. Some SERIOUS overclocks out them as well. Wont be dissapointed with it.

I am kinda excited. I can't wait, just a few more weeks to go. Once, again thanks for your help everyone.

just put all the cards in one basket...draw out a name.

YOU WIN :)

really you can't lose. You'll love/hate both cards for whatever reason (ati or nvidia)

XT's went out of stock faster then a glass of water during a drought

i have an XL right now, and i must say, the thing is freakin awsome, the overclocking on it is INSANE, i can't make it unstable (well i can, but its still pretty hard) and it gives awsome performance

seriously you will not go wrong with the XL, if you think about it, the XT gives you a nicer cooling solution, and an extra 512mb of GDDR3, with the XL (and aftermarket cooler) you could hit XT speeds easy, just with half the ram, so you are really saving alot of money by going to the XL

While on the topic which brand 1800XL is giving people those successful overclocks?

how long are you gonna keep the card? if your gonna keep it for 2 years or more then get the xt, because the extre memory will be used...but if u want to use your new card for around a year or less then get the x1800xl.....

im not saying that the x1800xl is slow, but if your gonna spend around $500 on a card, then you might as well get the best one....
