Newegg and UPS?

gman said:
Ok, I'm assuming Newegg was losing money with the FedEX Express Saver because I checked an item that would have cost $12.49 for FedEX Express Saver and only $6.99 for 3 Day UPS. I'm not sure they're comparable, but it may just be a business decision on the bottom line, of course at our expense.

Edit:
From Newegg's shipping info.:

FedEx Express Saver - Delivery within 3 business days.

UPS 3 Day - Delivery within 3 business days.

The only problem is UPS's 3 day takes 5 days to reach it's destination.

I did two seperate orders on the same day. 1 with UPS 3day and one with FedEx 3day. FedEx got to me in 2 days, UPS in 3. Both came from California (I checked that to make sure it wasn't coming from Jersey).

I'll always have them ship via FedEx from now on.

Mr.Dearthian

It's been my experience that when UPS says they'll have your package to you by 6pm Friday, you can expect them at about 5:59pm Friday.... maybe. UPS being barely on time or late is their NORM. UPS being early is LUCK.

There's one thing I value above all else when I ship something. RELIABILITY.

UPS is only reliable in the fact that they're always barely on time or late when they deliver packages. They're also reliable in the way they could give a damn if they're late, or how the package arrives. One time it took them 2 weeks to deliver a 19" CRT monitor to me because they misrouted it. I complained (before I got it, wondering what the hell was going on) and their response? "Sorry, nothing we can do." How about you refund my damn shipping costs you jackasses and not kick a hole in the box next time while you're punting it onto and off the truck? I ordered an Antec 1080B case from Mwave a while ago, and of couse it shipped UPS. The package was so beat up that they had managed to damage the PSU inside the case, and when I turned it on the first time, JOY, it blows up.

That was the last time I willingly used UPS to ship anything. They are reliably BAD. Their company, as a whole, needs a massive overhaul, but I'm sure they never will.

And oh god, don't go to the UPS depot here in Tucson. It's so half assed. There's packages and crap thrown everywhere. I get scared whenever I see them slide packages back into the void (assuming they can because usually there's so much crap piled up in front of it they can't) It's like looking in the kitchen of a greasy-spoon resturaunt... it's something you weren't meant to see.

FedEx is reliable in the fact that they have never (and I mean never) delivered a package to me late. They'll even come to my house on Saturday if necessary. The normal driver is a lady that's really nice and knowledgable about her job. The packages almost always get to my house looking good, and the few occasions they have had dents in them, it was minor. I really don't have anything bad to say about them, and that's something in itself considering the nightmares I've had with UPS (in several different States by the way). With FedEx, I can use their online tracking to check my package when I get to work in the morning, and OMG it's actually updated and it even shows when it's loaded on the truck for delivery so I'll know to be expecting the package! How novel!

Are you listening UPS? Your online tracking blows!

If Newegg forces me to use UPS or else pay a premium then I won't shop at Newegg anymore. I don't need the hassle of RMAs and returns due to shipping damage on fragile computer equipment. Plus, I like knowing when the hell my package is actually going to arrive.

I believe UPS and Fedex at the company level are not the fault for issues with shipments..

for instance.. in my area.. northern maryland... if I have a Fedex delivery, and it goes through the Baltimore terminal , I never get it on time.. Never... UPS is always right on, exact day as estimated...

It really just depends on the employees at each particular terminal..

Both UPS and Fedex will leave packages on my steps.. which I dont mind

My experience.

FedEx packages are often early, mostly on time, and rarely damaged items or boxing.

UPS packages are often late, mostly on time, and often damaged boxing. ( the boxes looks like they've been run over, contents sometimes damaged depending what was in the them)

UPS as a whole just seems to be much rougher on the packages. Probably b/c they handle a more boxes (heavy stuff) and less express envelopes (ligher stuff).

Sure everything is relative to where you live. My gripe is if FedEx can get it to me a day early from California then why can't UPS?

I sent Newegg an email asking why they've changed, but I've only gotten the generic response email so far.

With FedEx, If I orders two things, one comes from Jersey, the other California, they would both be here in 2 to 3 days reguardless their travel distance.

Also, I sent an e-mail to their complaint department.

What's up with the Egg going to UPS as the default shipper? UPS is always 'ON TIME', never early, at least in my experience. FedEX is usually faster and probably 70% of the time a day early, again where I live which is in NC.

Anyone else noticed this?

at least your stuff came on time.. i paid for 2 day shipping with ups (it was cheaper then fedex so i figure i would try them out) but they delivered my stuff to the wrong house (on the tracking website it said my packages were delivered to my house  )!! it wasnt until 5 days later that a neighbor came by and said that they had received packages that was mis-delivered. apparantly the ups truck driver read the address number incorrectly

ps their customer service stinks

Although I've never any problems with Fedex during my last 3 years shopping at Newegg, I actually prefer UPS better. My last 2 orders has been UPS and they got my item in 2 days! Not even Fedex could get the items to me in 2 days! I was so surprised UPS could be so fast.

It's also cheaper so I couldn't be happier.

I seriously don't get why people whine over this. If you don't like the carier, simply just pick another one. No need to create a thread over this.

If you dont like it you dont have to post in the tread, jerk.

Having said that, the reason we're miffed about the cariers is that we cannot have an order shipped cheaply via a service that wont beat the piss out of the package and be honest and accurate about deliveries.

Newegg must be charging more then it costs them in shipping to ship it. I work for a business that ships out no less then 800 packages a day (both UPS and FedEx) and I help ship those.

I can send a 15lb package Standard overnight to California from Minnesota for under $20 with FedEx. UPS is cheaper, but we tend not to use them during the Holidays as the packages rarely get there without being damaged or get there at all. So NewEgg either is charging customers more than it costs them for shipping (and lying that they don't) or they are not very good at negotiating contracts.

FedEx has the better tracking. They scan everything when the pick it up. UPS....scans it when they get back to the hub. I have seen the airport FedEx facility...I have seen the Maple Grove and Eagan UPS hubs.....FedEx>UPS hands down.

I had two packages delivered this week by UPS (only shipping option available from the stores I purchased from). Both were delivered late. One....the driver couldn't find my house despite being on a main road and having a street side lighted address sign. When I got the package...directions to get from MapleGrove to Chanhassen were written on it. Idiot. The other package was late because of "Driver Error". No one at UPS can tell me what that means and since I payed for Next Day UPS I have to fight the company that shipped it to me to get my money back.

I hate UPS so much that if it were permitted for one day.....I would beat them like they beat packages.

This is my personal favorite UPS screen:

ups.jpg

It's been "Rescheduled" for the last 3 days.... The progress page has it sitting in their hub in Buffalo, not "out for delivery" as you would think it should be since the delivery has been "rescheduled"...

The last two items that I shipped via UPS came on time (FedEx always a day earlier), but both boxes had been beaten and mistreated along the way, I was very pissed, especially with a new video card in one of them. Grr this makes me so mad.

And I use to work for UPS, would rather ship FedEx.

Well congratulations that you are pissed. Newegg known for high prices jacking anyway, that's why I don't give a damn about newegg. I can always purchase else where.

Hi, thats my NEW favorite, best thing is its my 2005FPW
 Do they handle these packages in a more human way ? :(

I just got my mb from newegg yesterday...UPS sucks...My package was opened when I got it...Not to mention beat up and everything else...From now on I'll pay the premium for Fed ex...If newegg peeps are reading this....What happened to the 99 cent super saver?

I've never had a problem with FedEx until up to about a month ago. I am here in California, and I ordered an Apple "Mighty Mouse" from apple.com. Now this item was shipped IN California, only about an hour and a half from where I live, and it came 2 days late. I was PISSED.

Now, about a week later, I was expecting a Mac computer. I bought this from someone off the FS/FT forum, a reputable person who even had a webpage just for pics of stuff from his "moving to cali" sale. The package got here on time (the exact day it was supposed to be delivered-kind of weird, because they always got it to me 1-2 days early) BUT....I always check my order status on line, and it was already 2:30 in the afternoon, and it still didnt say it was "on vehicle for delivery" the status was from like 2 dys prior, so I called them on it.

Long story shortened, it simply hadn't gotten scanned at the local facility for some reason, but it was on it's way. Thank god....but...it eventually shows up around 5:30....I hear someone knock on the door...I open it...and the box looks like HELL. Anyways, I eventually got it opened, and to my horror, the case is beaten. This is a G3 case with a G4 Mac inside. 3 of the 4 handle things on it are busted off and cracked, and other parts of the case are cracked up and other pats are scuffed, the only handle that was left, the front top one, was sticking out of the box....I said to myself "ohh shit...." I had absolutely no hope for it working. Well....it worked....but it looked like shit. On the other hand, UPS has never gotten anything to me early, or late, right on time, and nothing has ever been broken. In my experience,, both FedEx and UPS hhave been good to me, I liked FedEx because they always got stuff to me early, but never have I had such horrible luck with a shipper as I have with FedEx. I used to love them. :(

I truly hate UPS

They only deliver on either on the "estimated date" or after.

Fedex always is before the Estimated date. Most of the time West coast to east coast takes 2 days.

Fedex moves most packages on weekends
UPS will hold a package hostage and then move it on monday. I HATE that.

Fedex will KNOCK, and ask for signature. If I leave a note that says drop the package "here" they will do it. regardless if they have to move around the house.

UPS will drop the package on the door. Doesnt matter if I leave a note or not. 99 times out of ten no signature is ever taken, even for some packages that specifically require it.

FedEX always arrives around 11am
UPS Always arrives after 3pm. Never before unless I pay for expensive next day morning service. Next Day saver = they come 4pm

what sucks about egg now is fedex is alot more expensive now. Esp when doing $1,000+ dollar orders. Price difference ends up being $20-$50+ if not more.

Sometimes UPS holds my package hostage an extra day past estimated delivery. it's in my state. At the location. but they wont move it till the next day. Wont let me pick it up either untill a delivery attempt is made.

They also tend to "send packages back" because the address is unreadable. Or so they say. I've had to call up and bitch and moan to get them to give me my package. it gets to Georgia, then goes back to texas. After I bitch and moan and they resend it back to me The address is FINE.

They tried to keep my 2405fpw from me. It was in Ga, said on truck for delivery. 6pm No package. Next day, same thing. I call them up. Try to get the central hubs number here. They spout some bullshit saying "it has no number" they been trying to email them all day but couldnt get them to respond to my call. So I drive there and throw a hissy fit. I force them to recall the driver and dig my package out. Took 2 hours of waiting and bitching but I got it.

Fuckers.

Does this mean we should buy from chiefvalue.com now? Since newegg's sister site aparently still uses fedex.

Well then, if you dont shop newegg and your not complaning about or advocating UPS, then what is your business here? Flaming?

Well, I had to return my 2405FPW. Box looked intact but I'm sure it was beat with the wrath of angsty teenagers. The replacement came FedEx and works perfectly.

I sent an email to NewEgg as well. I will not do business with NewEgg until FedEx is returned as the defualt shipping method.

Oh, and here is my favorite UPS reason for delaying my "next day service".
capture1021200580445pm10212005.jpg

This is the very same driver that couldn't find my house earlier in the week. Now I have to battle JCPenney to get my money back for the shipping, since I got the shirt a day after I absolutley had to have it.

I love how I got free three day shipping on my 7800GT from newegg, except it's a weekend and unlike fedex, UPS goes by buisness days*.

*every day except for weekends, holidays, and whenever the fuck they don't feel like shipping your packages on time

When did Newegg switch to UPS? I loved Fedex and I used to get my packages in 2 days even though the express saver was 3. Is Fedex still an option? I'll gladly pay extra for them.

The only way that I can get next day shipping is via UPS where I live...otherwise I usually stick with fedex because it's just what I'm used to.

Lyquist

Both UPS and FedEx have screwed me over, so it's not that big of a deal to me ;). Actually, FedEx delivers in the morning when I'm not home, and UPS at night when I am. So it depends on whether I need to sign for something :).

LMFAO i have the most hated story about UPS.I ordered a XPS 2 from Dell during the summer for college ok the laptop was done i was tracking it woot it said being shipped from China. I was like cool. So the next 2 days i check it was in LAX YAYA i cant wait for my laptop cause college started in 4 days. So 2 days later i check WTF ITS BACK IN CHINA. *(&@*(&$*(@&(* man i was so pissed instead of shipping it to me they readed it wrong and sent it to the company where it was builted. Took like a whole week to send it back to the states and to my house where my parents sent it FedEx got it to me in 2 days from LA to San Fran. NEVER SHIPPING UPS AGAIN!

Bahaha, I love that. I remember UPS was suppose to deliver a package one day and it was getting late. All of a sudden, I hear a truck pull up, 2 honks from the truck, the guy runs to the door with a box in his hand and leaves it next to the door, knocks on the door and runs off to the truck.

It's because we do twice the volume of FedEx Ground! I work for UPS as a driver and when you work 10 to 12 hours a day the las thing you want to do is wait for anyone. Hey you got your package what more do you want. Real life is not like the cute little commercials! I don't blame you guys but most of you don't know what the job demands. I know it pays me very well and I can afford to buy top end hardware delivered by fed ex or ups!

All I know, If I have a Choice I am going with Fed Ex. Seems everytime I get a package with UPS it always comes with gouges and smashed corners! Every package I have gotten with Fed Ex looks like it was handles with reasonable care. I dont know why the UPS packages look so beat up, maybe they need to redo there automated sorting equipment or something. I would really like to see a Review of sorts comparing these 2 companies, heck even throw in DHL. Ship several packages from one point to another and back, Take pics of the Before and After, I think you will see that UPScomes oput on the bottom!
Hey Kyle! How about it?

Sorted by humans!

Dude, no offense, but I don't care if you work 20 hrs. a day. you took the job and you get paid. What I do care about is getting something I paid for in a timely manner and it not getting screwed up somehow. Look, I really don't have a gripe against UPS I just had gotten use to FedEx as Neweggs default 3 day shipping and all was good. Then UPS steps in an now I get my stuff at a day later. Though I will say the PS I have to send back may have be damaged by UPS, though it would be hared to prove.

FedEX def. owns UPS.

I ordered two products from NewEGG. On the same day. I decided to see which was better. I get FedEX Super saver for one product, UPS 3-day for another.

Thursday Morning. Hurricane Katrina hitting Florida hard. The FedEx guy was standing infront of my door with hard blowing wind and rain, standing here, holding my package in his hand. I was not only surprised, but very very pleased.

While UPS, psh. I got my package probably two weeks later. The site kept on saying "rescheduled till monday. Till tuesday. Till wednesday." What a joke!

FedEx Ground does half the volume as FedExpress Services, so that doesn't really mean anything. FedEx Ground treats the packages about the same as UPS. FedEx's Express services are the best. UPS's "express" services couldn't even contend with FedEx Ground.

FedEx also carries a lot of the USPS's mail for them. UPS does do more volume, but that doesn't mean crap. I have seen the sort facility for FedEx and UPS. FedEx is better. UPS sucks and it always will with drivers that say "hey, you got your package didn't you?".

ugh.

Dont advertise something you cant deliver. Next day is next day,not a day or 2 later. And least in one piece,it's UPS's job to get the package to the reciepant the same condition it was shipped in.

Here's a novel idea. Hire more people and buy the equipment you need to get the job done properly. Otherwise, all it sounds like to me is UPS is milking you guys for all you're worth, screwing over the customer, and bankrolling the profits.

Hi,

Look I am nothing trying to add more fuel to the fire but Newegg is too slow with fed ex for me at least. I live about 50 minutes from the NJ distribution warehouse. I am in New Jersey. The worst thing I hate to see is longer than needed time to get something. When Newegg was doing fedex saver, it was taking 2 days to get the package. UPS is next day. I love having my stuff shipped fedex though. I always thought of them as more reliable with the shipping.

I will agree when it comes to UPS and shipping practices. I work for a company in which I handle parts and supplies. I hate nothing but having UPS lose an overnight package . I hate telling the customer or the techican his parts didn't come in on time. This now cuases more headaches cause something is to be robbed from a kit or another machine to get the customer up and running. Then I have to file more paperwork to reclaim the lost freight due to the shipping arriving late. It was great when my primary vendor was using Fedex. If we had one missing or late package it was due to a major weather event. Not a routing error like my UPS is.

Later,
Alan

I keep loving this, their 3 day service conversion in real world applications is more like 7 days, minus sat and sunday its still 5 days, awesome.
