Okay, recently I sent my video card in to BFGTech since it was hitting temps of 60C idle and 90-97C load

I sent it in, and the paperwork they sent back to me is a little vague, but I belive they sent me a different refurbished card for replacement. (BTW Loved the tech support, it was beyond my expectations to say the least :D )

After it got back here I decided to add four 80mm fans to the side of my case around the area of my card, just so I would be sure there was no airflow issues. Yes, it is a little noisy and not quite my fancy to use a bunch of fans, but I wanted to play it safe.

I havn't had a great deal of time to test it since I got it back a few weeks ago, since my power supply decided to kick the bucket on me and I didn't have the cash to run out and buy a new one. But now I'm starting to see some of the same issues I had before, I'm getting little artifacts flickering all over the place (gets to around a dozen or more in a second but they only show for a split second which makes it hard to screenshot), and some models getting weird spikes coming out of them. Examples.

So here's what I want to know:

Does anyone else with this card have the same kinds of problems?

What do you guys think the problem is, and how can I fix it?

I havn't tried too hard to find out what kind of temps its been hitting, but I know it is hitting at least 70C and UNDERclocking the card appers to make the problem disappear, but I didn't buy this card so I'd have to underclock it.

BTW, I doubt it matters much, but I'm running ForceWare 78.01 WHQL (81.84 and 81.85 are kinda iffy so I'm staying at these.)

Thanks.

I've tried 78.01, 81.84, and 81.85 still the same, I also already had F.E.A.R. patched up. :(

ok - so under clocking makes it better, sorry I glanced past that one.. that would lead me to believe that it's heat or power related... 70c is ok for a top end... hitting 90c+ is getting into the danger zone.. not critical, but it's time to rethink cooling @ 90c. So you didn't replace the psu? sounds like you have a marginal power issue...

I said the power supply that I had gave up, so I bought a new one which is working quite well, and in the event I am having a heat issue I don't know what to do, because I have water cooling on my CPU and Northbridge, 1 rear fan, 2 front fans, 4 side fans, two top fans, 2 psu fans and of course the heatsink/fan for the graphics card. I don't understand how it could still be heating up to cause artifacts.

hrm.. ok, I thought you said it kicked the bucket and you didn't have the $ to run out and get a new one... anyways, it''s possible that the new psu is marginal, or the card that BFG sent you is marginal... or take the case side of and put a full size room fan blowing into it, so make shit sure that you are getting it cooled enough... beyond that, I am not sure...

I have the same problem with the same drivers, I run a bfg 6800gt with a 480 true antec. This happens in the demo. I havent purchased the game but it is probably gonna be the same.

I am running the following system,

Intel 865GLCL motherboard, 1gig ram, BFG Geforce 6600gt oc and have the latest bios and chipset drivers, and the latest nvidia drivers and get this same exact thing in the following games, World of Warcraft, BF2, Guild Wars. I can play CS:S and DOD:S and my graphics are fine, same with CS 1.6 but if I try to play any directx title i get the same artifacts all over the screen. Anyone else that has this problem or a solution please advise.

I have an Antec case with 400watt power supply. I have checked the specs of my case and PSU and they both are within the norm for these cards.

CS:S and DOD:S are both DirectX 9 titles, so the problem lies elsewhere.... where that would be, I have no idea. :(

Well BFG wants me to RMA the card, they say it could be the problem but then again it could be the motherboard since I went back to the other card and it does the same thing the new one is doing now.

BFG says there is no way that their card would damage my motherboard, but the thing is I wasnt having this problem until I put the card in. Everyone that I call for tech support Intel included wants me to RMA the part even though they cant determine what the problem is.

Anyone that has any idea would be greatly appreciated.

Could you have "tweaked" the slot when installing the card, possibly damageing the connectors on the mobo?

Try removing the card and wiggeling the slot gentily and listen closely for cracking noises.

temp of card? when i oc'ed my x850xt pe too much and it got above 75 degrees that happened...same with my friends 6800ultra

Sorry about not being completely clear on the PSU, the old one died about a month ago and it took me 3 weeks to get a new one. The only reason I really mentioned it, is the fact that it died before I got the card back, so I hadn't had a good chance to test the card.

But it sounds like other people are having artifacts with the 6800 line?

Also, those screenshots really don't solidly capture what's happening. Most, but not all, of the artifacts appear on the high detail characters, when I'm playing the game regularly, I don't really see them except for on my character's hands and guns, same with the weird spike issue. Once when I was using the dual pistols they transformed into nothing but a bunch of spikes 'till I switched weapons. I can also temporarily get rid of the problems if I minimize. And they don't show up all at once, but gradually get worse, which leads me to believe that its a heat issue, but everyone says the heat it is at is fine.

I just tested Doom 3 and I'm getting the artifacts, no spikes though, and its not as bad as F.E.A.R. by a longshot.

90c for the core is fine.. but teh memory isn't... my ultra does the same thing in summer.. doesn't matter how many fans you put in there... they all blow the same hot crappy air.. anyways.. I switch on my A/C and artifact free :p

Okay I lowered the core clock 25 MHz and lowered the RAM clock 50 MHz and Black and White 2 makes spikes come out of my creatues like crazy.
