I am looking for a new laptop, Doesn't have to be budget but price is an issue. I won't be using it for ANY gaming, only buisness. Have a gamer already :)

It will be used in the field and on the move every day. So wieght, size does matter some.
One of the primary uses will be running Ghost on other machines and copying backup images to the notebook, so it will spend a good deal of time on AC not battery. So battery life is less of an issue.

Mostly I would like a really strong HD subsystem. Faster using Ghost and quick to move the Images off the laptop onto more permanant storage (a server back at the office) To that end a strong internal 10/100/1000 eithernet card is important. Wireless is a pluss but won't use that for ghosting

Since I am running images and backups in a buisness setting stability and reliability are VERY important. It has to be rock solid.

Any suggestions? Stable, good HD, dunna care about graphics at all. Any laptops have Raid? hehe.

For a stable business machine IBM would be my recommendation.

There are a few laptops that can support RAID, but they're usually RAID0 in high end gaming units, though theres probably a few that do RAID1.

You can almost forget buying a laptop with the HDD you need.
Your best bet is to buy the laptop you like, and then replace the HDD with a 7200rpm unit
Such as this.

You will notice a huge improvement in almost ANY laptop by going to a 7200rpm drive.

Dell Latitude 810. You can get a 7200rpm HD as an upgrade, they are P-M based so good speed and battery life should you need it, beautiful screen, even readable in sunlight, very high build quality, the most solid laptop I have ever used, and not very heavy.

Edit: I just noticed that Dell is giving many notebooks the option of purchasing a 7200rpm hard drive. So my above advice may not be the best.
But definitely insist on a 7200rpm drive. It's the only way to go.

My laptop has RAID - but it might not be exactly what you are looking for.

Let me know if you have questions that I can answer for you.

Otherwise - please clarify what you mean by strong HD subsystem. Do you mean that you want it to be really fast or you want it to be bulletproof....

Nomad - Both. As a buisness setting, doing backup work I want the drives to be very reliable first and formost. Speed would be a strong second attribute. However I would sacrifice some speed for reliability. I need to avoid data coruption first, data loss of course is always bad. The raid comment was kind of in jest. If I was planning on storing the files longer on the laptop I may look into a redundant based raid, but for the short term moving of files I don't see raid offering much protection from data corruption during transfers. If there is a failure of ANY kind I would go back and recopy the files. Even if I had one disk go down on a mirror it wouldn't save me any time. To much risk of there beeing possable data coruption on the other drive. Same for Raid 5 etc.

Basicly I will be using the laptop to go to multiple sites per day to copy Ghost images from PCs and also to copy ghost images and backup files from storage. Then copy those files back onto an office server. I won't be storing any data long term on the drive.

No, the computers are not connected to the Internet or other means of doing this via a Wan.

it might also be worthwhile to consider a notebook that can have a second hard drive in the removable media bay, especially if all the software it needs will already be installed.
