F.E.A.R. Multiplayer Demo is out

The multiplayer demo for F.E.A.R. has been released, allowing you to try out the online side of the imminent supernatural first-person shooter by Monolith Productions. This demo contains a (Team) Deathmatch level called Factory and a Capture the Flag map titled Facility, playable on the Internet by up to 16 players. Both maps also support slow-motion and (Team) Elimination modes, and a dedicated server is included as well.

I really liked the graphics when i played the SP demo, even my old video card handled it well at higher settings.
 
damn I downloaded it and get an unhandled exception error after putting my birthday :confused:
 
I dl'ed it this morning and played a round before work. It's good, but is there a sprint option? i didn't have enough time to mess with the controls, but several times it would have been nice to have a quick 5 second sprint. It felt a little slow, but I've been playing HL2:DM, and DOD:S which are quite a bit faster.

Pros: Awesome graphics and effects, unique and balanced weapons.

Cons: A little slow? wheres the daylight? Does everything have to be at night? Hard to tell teammates from enemies in TDM. Level layout a little bland.

Hopefully, they will release and SDK so the community can develop some better maps.
 
anyone able to get internet servers to display, or is that not an option?
 
There is a button at the top of the browser you have to click find servers or something like that.

Well I think it's decent. Definitely an improvement since the beta. More polished/runs smoother. It feels like the gameplay is slower and more tense but maybe it's just me.
I'm more hyped for F.E.A.R's single player.
 
the fear mp beta was a lot of fun, I just don't like how quickly you can be killed.. which makes spawn kills that much more annoying. The weaps are a tad over powered..
 
Yeah I was playing on a last man standing team game and it is over so fast. 2 minutes of creeping around and then BAM a 3 second firefight and somebody is dead. Not the one you can spawn with, but that repeater weapon found on some crates on the one level is mega powerful. The machine gun is wimpy. Footstep noises don't seem to carry as far as they should.
 
CTF was pretty fun. Last Man Standing was totally ghey with a bunch of campers. However CTF did have a lot of Tkers, but that should change once people realize that the white/blue is your team. However I did run into a few intentional Tkers that were just total morons running around killing everyone.
 
I don't know about anyone else, but I really like how lethal weapons are. It took me a whlie to find out how balanced things are (to a degree), but gradually I started to find most weapons performing about how you would expect. A shotgun is horrible at long range. At close and medium range it is a beast. SMGs are handy at medium close range as well, but of course, at close range, will not have the quick punch a shogun will have. Stick to medium and keep moving for greatest effect. Rifles are fantastic at long range, appropriately, but quickly become outclassed in close quarters, thanks to the quick hard punch of shotguns, and high ROF on SMGs.

I haven't played around enough with some of the other weaponry, like the plasma rifle I found in one of the MP maps in the beta. For the standard equipment, it is almost perfect. Play with it for a while, and learn to use cover, effectively. As some of you have pointed out, it is a little slow (as fast as the action can seem with all of the debris and sparks) so take your time. No need to camp, but playing it UT style doesn't help, either. Play with a friend, even. Just because it is DM doesn't mean you HAVE to shoot at everyone. ;) Team games should be even more impressive, as players can cordinate and focus fire/flank, and exercise some great tactics. If your opponents still had time to react and shoot you in the head after you have flanked them, sure, you deserve to die, but not thanks to any game mechanic.

All I can say is that FEAR MP requires a different type of skill thank point and click. Not to say it isn't required, but you will need to think more about how you handle any given situation. You will need to find and use cover. Jump through windows, flush enemies out with grenades, lure opponents through proximity mines, and when all else fails just be more aware of your suroundings than your opponent. Back during the beta I got numerous kills because I was about to idenitfy when more players were coming from my, or my opponent's back. In either case I could lay low and let the new meat shield handle my current opponent. Sure, he can have the kill, because he doesn't know where I am, and that gives me the advantage I need to take him out. +1 kill. Same difference as if I had killed my original target. All the same, he is dead, and I have a higher score. :)

So I like FEARs multiplayer. I can see some weapons or abilities (melee) becoming over powered, and potentially ruin the game, but time will tell.
 
THIS GAME IS shit, im bored of it after 2mins online playing at a random server, ahh well time 2 un install this game, too boring, same old FPS with pretty graphics and max payne style bullet time slow down crap.. bin their, done that, need somthing more innovating then this thats for sure, i even played the SP and that kinda boring too... games in general are just too predictable.

About time they add a bit of "element" to FPS genre. Have been and still am very excited for this game. Only play FPS tho of course :)
 
GRREAAT I just had my wife give me a serious lecture on my gaming habits last night and now this demo is out!!!! What to do what to do, should I try and sneak in a few rounds? After CS?

I can't wait :)
 
omg u have a wife and rather sneak and play this game? fooking hell i only play games when my wife is not around or when im seriously bored.. i wudnt sneak away for this game thats for sure. i just wasted 2mins of my life playing this...

Is the multiplayer demo any "faster" than the singleplayer demo? I mean have there been any major performance optimizations? I can hardly play the single player demo with the graphic detail and performance im use to, wondering if I should bother with the multiplayer.
 
Ah setting didnt change as I set them, but playing 640x480 low everything is fast atleast. [H] tip of the day, holster your weapon and you 2x as fast, most ppl dont know that and walk the whole time with weapon out. =)

[H] tip number 2, melee attack with gun holster will one hit kill (punch with fist)

Edit: lol, just got done owning the entire enemy team (often me vs entire enemy team in group) with just fists, sprinting, and the old flip move. (jump, crouch, melee) Fear fun ninja style. =)

You have a wife? I thought you had to graduate from 2nd grade phonics and be at least 18 to get married?

I just did a lot of this. Both holstered weapon, and low res. Low res, because i have to play on a TV for the time being, and I have to say, no. At least CTF. There is far too much info popping up on screen, between markers for team mates and kill messages. Everything was getting in the way of everything. The best bet is to turn shadow and lighting quality down a good bit, but do whatever you can to keep a half decent resolution.

PS: Mellees are so much fun. :D
 
I like! I cant wait 'till full retail is out and more maps are in the cycle. Fast enough to keep you there, but the gameplay is balanced and interesting enough to make it worthwhile.

god... I just found something out.. after hours of experimenting... I found that turning ON AA would rape performance... played on my 6800ultra @ 1600x1200 0AA 16xAF everything MAXIMUM except for softshadow.. and what do you know.. 50-60 fps constantly... werid..... turning on even a little bit of AA 2x... drops performance down to 30-40fps and dipping into the 15's and stuff under firefight... :(

can someone with a similar setup like mines go try this and confirm the game has some kind of aa problem! I even lower the res down to 1280x960 with same settigns and 2xAA and it dips like a mofo...

All the team / flag / everything icons didnt bother me, maybe I was running 800x600?
 
d/l it and didn't like it.if this is the gold "code",i think they need to smelt it down and start with a new cast.
