I have five. 1 SATA WD Raptor 74GB, 2 PATA Maxtor D740X 40GB, 1 USB Maxtor D740X 40GB 1 Networked D740X 40GB.

How many HDs?

Not enough. I'd like have a total of 2TB, I've only got about 650GB.

1 WD 160 gb ATA100.
1 MAXTOR 160 gb ATA133(130 mb bad sector) :(
1 WD 60 gb ATA100
1 IBM 3.2 GB ATA33  (USB external enclouse)

All of these drives are Maxtors except for the notebook drive, which is a Hitachi HDD. I've never had an HDD failure so I can't understand those, who complain about Maxtor drives.

One too many :( (though some people here have 2x+ more than I do)

128GB SSD
1TB
2TB
3TB

120GB OCZ Vertex 3 MI SSD and 2TB Western Digital Black in my main rig.

2 SSDs and 3 HHDs in the secondary computer
2 HHDs in the rotating offsite copies
6 HHDs in the primary backup
6 HHDs in the secondary backup
1 HHD in the safe deposit box

Main Computer

1-TB WD Black Spinner
1.5-TB WD Green Spinner

HTPC
120-GB SSD
1.5-TB WD Green Spinner X2
750-GB WD Green Spinner

In the windows 6 core 12 threaded box no hard drives 3 SSDs (120 GB Intel G2 + 2 x 256 GB Crucial M4) although there are 4 2TB hard disks in the box that were used when the windows box was a second linux machine and windows was a VM under linux. I have not messed with the disks in 9 months or so. In the second machine which is primarily my linux based HTPC I have 5 SATA hard drives in a 5 in 3 + 2 more internal + 1 80 GB Intel G1 SSD. I have added a 4TB external that I now switch between the 2 machines however the external is written in a filesystem that windows does not understand I dump bit for bit copies of the SSDs as 1 file per SSD on to the btrs formatted external when the windows box is booted from a llinux live usbstick.

Main computer, ancient 2001:
3 scsi: all IBM, 1 ide Seagate

3ssd same

laptop 1 80 gb unknown ide
shuttle 1 seagate sata 80 gb
old 486 for really old games 1, 1 gigabyte partitioned ide with dos, win95, and os2 on it.
2 Netgear NAS with two 2 terabyte drives each, all seagate.

I was installing my 3rd HD for my main computer today and got the question in my head, I was wondering how many HDs everyone has in their main computer. So how many do you others have?

In my gaming machine as of today?

Intel 180GB Series 520 SSD - OS
Crucial M4 512GB SSD - Games
Crucial M4 512GB SSD - Games
Corsair Force GT 480GB SSD - Games
Seagate Barracuda 3TB - Media
WD Caviar Black 2TB - Media
WD Caviar Black 2TB - Media
WD Caviar Black 2TB - Media

Note: I have no "ROM" drive on this one. I use an External USB 3.0 BluRay Burner if I need to access a ROM-type disc.

2 Days ago I replaced the dead Crucial M4 256GB (OS Drive) with the Intel 180GB and reinstalled everything, and today I replaced a dying WD Green drive I used for scratch space with a 3TB Seagate.

Back in 2005->

2 - 150 GB raptors (games, etc)
1 - 15k rpm 17gb scsi cheetah (OS)

Now ->

Main Rig:
1 - 64GB SSD (OS)
1 - 2 TB WD Green drive (Torrents, backups)
1 - 1 TB Samsung eco drive (Pictures)
2 - 300GB Velociraptors in RAID0 (Games)

Stuff in basement:

13 - 2TB drives
3 - 1.5 TB drives
6 - 1 TB drives
5-10 smaller drives (250gb-750gb)

Including the system I sent my brother to act as an off site backup:

12x SSDs from 20 to 300GB
3x 500GB
6x 1TB
1x 1.5TB
14x 2TB
10x 3TB

That's everything in service, a few more laying around not being used, generally smaller drives

1x 256GB SSD
5x 512GB SSDs
4x HDDs from 500GB to 3TB that sit in a box until I need to pull files from them

my laptop has a 512GB SSD and a 750 GB HDD
my gaming machine has a 256GB SSD, 500GB and 1TB HDDs

I've lost count (for real). I need an excel spreadsheet to assess the number, probably between 80 and 90. Half of them being backups of the other half. 40 at a time can be plugged into my main rig. The average drive is a 2TB, but I've got more than a dozen of 3TB and just received my first pair of 4TB.
