I have an apple 23" cinema display at my workstation but need to hook it up to my laptop. Unfortunately, my 700m has a VGA port not a DVI like the apple display.

I bought a RadioShack 29-Pin Female to VGA Male DVI-I Adapter (Connect a VGA PC to an LCD monitor!)

However when I switch to the VGA port by Fn-F8, it doesnt show up on the display, it just blinks.

I messed around in the Display Settings but had no luck.

Did i get the wrong adapter or osmething? or is this not possible?

Thanks,
Jay

Easy answer is no you can not hook up the apple screen to the notebook. You need something with dvi. You can buy a converter box that will tkae vga and output to dvi but they are a few hundrend bucks.

I wonder how many more years we'll have to wait for PC notebooks to have standard DVI..

20lb SUV laptops not withstanding.. ;)

When they have a strong need to put it on them. Most things take vga. Hell I think he will see more of a chance that the next connections they are working on will be seen before dvi would be the standard.

yeah they'll probably go straight to that next multimedia copyright protection garbel display port, if your monitor doesnt have that connection then copyrighted movies will only show up in low quality(only in the windows vista).
