75 hz + Dell 2005FPW = big difference

ya i spent 450 on this monitor dont want to void the warranty or anything and it runs fine as it is
 
What is all this talk about needing to overclock your 2005 fpw to run at 75 mhz. I just got mine yesterday and It automatically comes up at 75 mhz along with other refresh rate such as 72, 67, 65, 60 and some more number. And all the talk about no ghosting at 75mhz, I can still see it. I have been gaming on crt for the last 5-7 years and this is my first switch to LCD.
 
Damn........... I've been hearing so much good stuff about this monitor, I just may have to sell off my two Dell 1900FP's and get two of these 3005FPW's.

I'm stuck at 25ms refresh @ 60Hz :( :(

They've been great panels, but I guess they are showing their age now.

The scary thing is that if I can see ghosting or blur at 12ms and 75 hz, I wouldn't dare imagine how it will effect me with you setup.

The DVI single link operating at 75 hz with a resolution of 1680x1050 for my display is roughly 149 MHz. The maximum specification for single link DVI is 165 MHz so it isn't some placebo effect like you claim. Not to mention that I can clearly see tangible results when testing between refresh rates in certain games.

Not to hijack, but the question has been asked 2 or 3 times now on this thread. Does anyone know how to do this for an ATI card? I have a 9800 PRO and I can't get the damn thing to do 75Hz. The monitor advertises being able to 1680x1050 @ 75Hz so if I can't figure it out, I'll take it back.

Is it possible that you simply don't have the ability to take it to 75Hz on ant ATI card? I have tried the Omega drivers and all kinds of utilities but my screen still says 60 Hz:

And likewise in the monitor's menu, where someone's else's display might say 75Hz (see below), mine still says 1680 x 1050 @ 60Hz

I cant seem to get this to work w/ my Dell 2405 and my 7800 GTX. my screen goes blank as soon as I set it to 75hz.

whats up w/ that?

2405's don't support 75hz at native resolution.
 
Monitor tab in the control panel. Just unclick "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display". I using an L90D+ and I personally think it's faster with my 9800 PRO. I don't care if it is a placebo, as long as it works for me.
 
Personally I think it's a placebo, but placebo's do work as long as you believe they do, so I see no harm in it. In actuallity I think it would cause more tearing, since instead of your FPS being above 60 in order to avoid tearing, they now have to be above 75.

Although, the 2405 can probably run at lower resolutions at 75Hz. So if you play a game at a lower resolution you could probably get it running at a higher refresh rate.
 
Unclicking "hide modes that this monitor cannot display" on my 2005 and ati 800XL still shows nothing other then the 60 hertz..... :(

I have a screen shot but don't know how to post it so if u want proof theninform me
 
So how does this work. You up your refresh rate on an LCD this in turn lowers your 12ms response time?

If this is really true then way did Dell not just do this at the factory and say that the 20 inch widescreen is 8ms Monitor. Im not trying to flame anyone Im just looking for something to back this up other then somebody posting it worked for me.

Any links to some review site doing this with test equipment to back this up?

Seems like they do want proof M1 grant. Looks like you have enough info about free photo hosting to show it now. I would love to see a 100hz LCD 2.
 
I think the ability to recognize refresh rate, greatly depends on your sensitivity to light. (this is something that causes me physcial pain with some monitors) Do not forget light sources in the room. To some extent consider how much time you spend behind different monitors throughout a day.

A CRT is much easier than a LCD to see the difference in refresh rates. On a CRT I can see the screen in what I consider very obvious waves.

On a LCD I can tell that something isn't right due to difficulty trying to focus. (some name brands more than other and I have NO clue why) I've read that with a LCD the refresh rate is not suppose to matter, but I still have trouble focus'n at some refresh rates as compared to other refresh rates. I have no preference on a value for the refresh rate so long as I can focus easily.

My suggestion is to get a friend to help test. Walk out of the room, have them adjust (and record) the refresh rates on the CRT/LCD. See if you can tell the difference. Record response. After ten times check how things work.



BTW. I'll try the ATI on the dell 2005fpw when I get home later today and see if I have that option with my 9800xt.
 
Other than lowering the resolution I do not see a way to force the resolution through the ATI settings.

If you force it through the monitor option that seems to only effect the desktop and not games.
 
Bump. PowerStrip now allows for ATi cards to set custom refresh rates and resolutions.
 
The refresh rate is just how fast information is being sent to your monitor. The refresh rate on an LCD will not change the response time! It may increase your frame rates if you have vSync enabled.

None of this can hurt your monitor as far as I know. The monitor should just give you an "out of range" error if something is not right.
 
LCD dont use refresh rates like CRT's, it is a left over legacy thing.... ? is this just a flaw with LCD's or video cards......

I got an XFX 6800 NU for Dual DVI, and I did the refresh things. Gaming is alot better than before. It's not as delayed and I can definately feel the difference from before. But text and pictures still look the same to me. Also, even though I changed the refresh rate on the computer, the moniter still detects as 60hz. That's a bit odd.

Placebo. The only plausible explanation I could think of would be the higher refresh rate forces more overdrive, but that's not likely. The overdrive is likely as high as it will already go.
 
Just tried this out on my 2005fpw + 7800gt...can't tell a difference really...i switched back and forth a few times but it just looks the same to me.
