ViewSonic VP191B vs Dell 2005FPW

Well i've got just about enough money now to get a new monitor (finally), don't keep up with displays too much. I'm debating between these two displays mostly. I play games, watch movies on my comp occasionally, and do some CAD work. So i need an all around monitor. Needs to be 19" at least.

I've been leaning towards the Dell more now since the Viewsonic has gone up in price a lot since, getting close to matching the Dell (if its on sale).

If you know of a monitor that's just as good or better for around the same price then post!

i remember about a week and a half ago i checked the price of the VP191b and it was 427 or something, a couple days later it rose to 470 :(

The Dell 2005FPW can be had for well under $400 USD if you call them.

Meh, I'm in a love-hate relationship with my VP191B compared to my old CRT (930SB). The build quality is very good, and there are no dead pixels; but it just doesnt look as good as the CRT, and its too bright even at 0% brightness. I've never used a 2005fpw cause I'm not a fan of widescreens.. +1 to the Viewsonic.

I would go with the Dell since you can get it for about $380 almost ever 6 weeks.

I had one its a wonderful monitor. Mine was almost perfect for the 20 widescreen no dead pixels and just a small backlight problem on the left bottom side. It can have ghosting on some games people that say it will never ghost on any game or app are lying you can read reviews and see for yourself.

Then you obviously don't know about unlocking refresh rates, this thing can safetly reach 75hz, no prob

Others and I have posted how to call Dell for a good deal at least once every three days.

I still say someone should make a Dell monitor information sticky.

Anyway…

1. Call Dell’s Business Peripherals Sales Line (These guys have the best margin policies for the consumer.)

2. Say you are a small business owner; if you are not then make one up. I can be in the business of selling empty bottles of booze I drank if I was so inclined; so, be creative.

3. Haggle like you have never haggled before. Just remember to sound intelligent and BE NICE. Throw some small talk in the mix, too. Understand that it is a known fact that Dell can sell these monitors FAR cheaper than almost any online price and make sure that you let them know you mean business. Give them a price you want the monitor sold at and do not budge. If they do not match the price then get the representative as low as he/she is willing to/can go and ask them if you can have a quote number and a number to a private line; this is important. Tell them you will think about their offer and hang up. (Hang up nicely, too. Make sure to thank them for their time, etc…)

4. Call the sales line again and speak to a different representative. Essentially you need to repeat the above steps until you get someone who will bite. Keep in mind that sometimes Dell limits margins on a daily basis. One day the base price may be $400 and tomorrow it may be $380 for a 2005FPW. Call again the day or week after if you must. Also, when you speak to each representative bring up the quote number you got from the lowest previous representative. Play them against each other: call back the earlier representatives if you get a lower quote and keep this going. It may sound dick, but hey, this is cash we are talking about. :p

5. On another note: Dell can almost always give free next-day shipping. So go for that, too, if you can.

The above also applies to US residents. Canadians and Europeans will have a much harder time getting a good deal. Sorry guys.

Lets not Highjack this thread over something that can be solved in a thread already dealing with this. Go to that thread and back it up with proof.

Any way I have done told the poster my honset opinon. The Dell will ghost blur and tear at times.

The 8ms VP191b gets great reviews all away around.

do you think it's possible to haggle down two 2005fpw's for 600-700 bucks? i'm strapped for cash, but really want a dual setup, uniform ideally (like, no one monitor being VS and the other sony or something...want it to look clean.)

You will most likely not be able to get two 2005FPWs for under $750/800.

That said, you certainly will not get two of the Viewsonics for under $800/850. (Not on any sites that I have seen.)

There are a lot of options to consider in the two monitors and choosing one over the other really boils down to the preference of the user.

Have you ever used a LCD before? Are you switching from a CRT?

In my opinion, the Viewsonic will be the better "all-around" monitor.

I also believe, however, that the Dell is one hell of a better deal.

i'm in the same boat....deciding between the vp191b and the 2005fpw...the choice is so hard...

3 vp171b's here. Love em...but wish I got the 19"ers or more. The guy who posted above is right....even on lowest setting these things are brighter then hell. Great for gaming IMO.
