Is there any advantage to them? found a sony 24in trinitron monitor at a good price, they are selling BNC cables too, would i see an advantage in quality? What kinda graph card would i need for BNC?

I really can't tell a f.in difference on my W900 with either cable. Some reviews mention the BNCs being slightly more vibrant, so go for it, you're buing the best CRT ever made, might as well drop another 40-50 bux.

I usually don't run above 1600x1024, even with the BNC, the 1920 and 2048 resolutions get slightly fuzzy to me. Maybe it's my W900, I got a used one and I'm sure it's seen better days before I got my hands on it. Manufacture ID # 2000-38

BTW . how much for the W900 you found and where ?

Someone posted that they where buying a sony fw900, i checked link on ebay, speak of the devil the company is located near my job in lawrence. I went personally they always get some monitors in a daily basis. Negociated to 250$ in exellent condition, tested it, no scratches. picked it up me self saved $100 on shipping. monitor was originally $300

I use BNC cables with my 21" Sony G500 and I saw a clear difference at 1280x1024 @85hz and up over the normal VGA cable.

QFT. I have one (using BNC cables bought on eBay) and it looks incredible. I can play HL2 at 2304x1440 on it, which looks insane, and I watch DVDs on it at 960x600. That, in fact, is why I bought this instead of a big LCD; native resolution forces you to deal with either stretching the hell out of the DVD picture or bad interpolation for lower resolution. The FW900 Worth every penny if you can find one in good shape.

U can stretch that deal only with self pickup. It's a pain for them to ship it, they are heavy.

I don't notice any difference between using the HD15s or BNC's on my pair of FW900s.

Anything w/a HD15 will do... use one that'll let you run decent refresh rates at high res. though...

Only thing is recommend in this screen(sony FW900) is go to monitor menu, go to option, first thing on list is degauss on, push control pad to the right. This refreshes the monitor.
It is recommended when u receive one since they haven't been fired up in a while.

If you use the BNC beware the fact that the "plug and play" function of the vga's DDC link wont work. You may not see all of the possible resolutions and refreshes in the display control panel. Be sure to use the Sony monitor driver and not the "Plug and play monitor" one. The Matrox G550 I had my Sony connected to required a registry hack to get the 1920x1200 res to appear (just FYI) May not affect more current cards, YMMV.

Alright, I'm confused. Can I use one of the many dongles that came with my 7800GTX. It has that multicolor stuff but that's for HDTV right? I'm buying the monitor. Screw it. May have a 2405FPW up for sale soon.

Got this puppy on order. Anyone know what I will need to do to my GTX?

You can just use the supplied VGA cable and save all the hassle of the BNC connection .. Most people say you cant tell the differance in quality anyhow (Shrug).

I have a BNC cable you can have. Had it on my fp950 but I got an lcd and have no use for it now. It's DVI --> BNC. You pay shipping. Let me know.

I have the sony 24" monitor... got it brand new 5 yrs ago and haven't regretted it since I plunked down a large wad of cash for it.... I've hooked up the BNC and VGA cables... I didn't notice any significant difference. Oh, BNC is more problematic b/c it is NOT plug n' play... it is a hassle to deal with refresh rates and available resolutions. I recently tried my BNC cables and the monitor was stuck at a refresh of 60hz... I tried using reforce to lock the refresh rate, but it didnt work. XP said it was refreshing at 100hz, but the OSD on the monitor indicated 60hz... oh and i definitely looked like 60hz... all flickery and all... In my opinion, the disadvantages of using BNC outway any benefits. Just make sure you have a UXGA compatible cable and just use the d-sub connection. BNC is a hassle and if you don't use the proper...

If you decide to use BNC make sure you dl the monitors driver.

I don't mind going through "trouble" because I'm using BNC. Is the 60Hz a limitation with all the drivers and so on? I guess huh? Because DVi can only do little more than 1920*1200 @ 60Hz so I wouldn't be surprised a DVI->BNC adapter limiting to that too. Is there any way to have the sharpest picture possible with a high refresh rate remaining?

No. For ATI cards and CAT drivers, just go to Settings - Advanced - Displays and manually set the monitor resolution and refresh there. Then you can set the res and refresh for the adapter. I don't recall having to do anything special with NVIDIA cards (haven't used em in awhile) to get refresh rates above 60Hz using BNC.

So far gaming is awesome, All i need is a powerfull graph card so i can go to higher resolutions in games. Its a wonderful monitor, once PC turns off or goes one standby ill stay on for 10 sec then i'll go into sleep, 20 sec ill totally shut down no need to turn off. U turn PC on ill fire up immediately from off mode by itself. colors are exellent. I have no complaints, I just wish I could find a antiglare screen for it. Monitor has it built in but i'm used to having one in my 17in and it reduces eye strain hours after, Half Life 2 Plays awesome in it. DVD's look great on it. No LCD can touch it. Games look great at 1024x and above, at all resolutions.
