this will be my 3rd socket 754 system (I have no clue how that happened)

the other two use DTR CPUs, in 10X and 11X Multi sizes (3200+ and 3400+)

but this one will use...

AMD Athlon 64 3700+ 2.4GHz (12X multi)ClawHammer 1MB L2 Cache

ZALMAN CNPS7700-CU All Copper Heatsink

DFI nF4X Infinity Socket 754 NVIDIA nForce4-4X ATX AMD Motherboard

II guess I should get that Leadtek 6800GT and the Neopower 480 because I think they would look and work good on this system ( but I'm still looking for options on those parts )
I still need to see how high the Vdimm will go on the DFI Infinity motherboard before I can buy some RAM...but I would still like it to be a 1GB stick of very low latency RAM so that I could add another for the 2GB all the kids are crazy about these days

I would really like to find a 1GB stick of DDR 500/PC 4000 CAS 2 @ 250MHz
so I can try to run this set-up @ 250mhz X 12 = 3.0GHz

but it looks like the only RAMs that can do that are the OCZ VX and REDLINE...and both of those need very high voltage to run at the speeds and timings I would like
not only that but I can only find them in 512mb sticks

so does anyone know what the vDimm can be set to with the DFI socket 754 Infinty board?
and if there are any 1GB sticks of DDR 500 / PC 4000 (250mhz) that can run at CAS 2 ?

also I have a good idea on a slick way to replace the fan on the ZAL 7700 using one of these fans...

link Delta 120x38mm Triple Blade High Speed Fan for Heatsink
or
link Delta 120x38mm TFB1212GHE Extreme High Speed for Heatsink

I'm guessing the Triple Blade would be more than enough....but how bad (loud) would the TFB1212GHE Extreme be?...and is there anyway for the motherboard to automatically control the speed of the Extreme as it uses a molex power connector where the Triple Blade can be powered off the motherboard...would the Triple Blade be silly loud too?

there are some photos of the BIOS in this review
http://www.pctuning.cz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=4787&Itemid=43&limit=1&limitstart=2

but i can not read the language that it was writen in...so I don't know if they talk about the VDimm in that read

also I noticed this board has these settings for the CPU voltage
dlnvc7.jpg
dlnvhd.jpg

could anyone tell me what these do...or how would I use them (looks like Vcore can be set to 1.850)

what would be the voltage I would need to use so I could try and reach my goal of 3.0GHz with the 754 'Hammer?

should I move this to maybe the overclocking forum?

or where do all the 754 freaks hang out?

2003???

sorry bad joke (mostly to piss off eclipse if he reads this)

this isnt DFI's high end series, so id imagine 2.9 - 3.2 would be the max, which is not likely to net you the clocks on the memory you mentioned, atleast not at cl2

thanx

I'm thinking the OCZ VX might still be able to run CAS 2 at close to 250MHz with those voltages (maybe just 2-3-3-x) but those don't come in 1GB sticks(right?)....but I'm not even sure if the ClawHammer will get to 3.0GHz on air

so still any RAM that could get past 240MHz at CAS 2 could work...anyone know of a 1GB stick that could do that?

and whats a good BIOS version for that board?...and where can I download it at?

or me, s754 will always flow through my veins even if i go to s939. and that board has 3.2v max, but 3.1v effective.

From what ive seen review wise with the vx they need some voltage to get those speeds. So unless you buy the higher binned stuff(pc4000) odds are you will need ~3.4V+ to hit those speeds. As was also mentioned above it seems the board undervolts .1v giving you only 3.1v to work with, VX is rated for 3.2v at default speed. Ive got the gold non vx bh5 sticks and the max ive gotten them is 240mhz now and that took 3.4v. Id check out the DFI forums and see if the OCZ booster will work with that board.

edit: just realized you wanted a 1gb stick which doesnt appear to be offered in the VX

is about the only one i can find and the timings are pretty high

I got the OCZ VX DDR500 up to 260MHz with 2-2-2-6 timings and 3.1vDimm
and 270 with 2-3-3-8 and the MAX 3.1vDimm (set at 3.2 in the BIOS)

I did do a few benchmark runs at 2.75GHz (RAM at 250MHz) but the CPU was getting to hot
(the shipping BIOS can't read the temps of the 3700+ ClawHammer (says 11C to 30C with 32C room temp)

the stock 2000RPM ZALMAN fan just isn't moving enough air
so I'm hoping that by "modding" a >link< Delta 120x38mm Triple Blade High Speed Fan to fit the ZAL heatsink will fix that

with the better fan and the coming cool air thru a open window this winter, I'm hoping to be able to run benchmarks at 2.8GHz to 2.9GHz (I can get Windows to boot at 2.8GHz now)
but I think getting to 3.0GHz with the 3700+ socket 754 ClawHammer would need water cooling

is there a BIOS I can download to flash my motherboard with to get the CPU temp monitor fixed with the 3700+?

thanks
