Hey all,

I got an XP-90 to use with my new 4400+. The stock HSF is pretty interesting as it has heatpipes. Having not done a build in over a year, this is the first stock heatpipe that I've seen. Anyhow, I was wondering if it's worth enough to justify selling it. What's the stock HSF worth?

Thanks,
BoB

absolutely nothing.

you'd be better off by just keeping it along with the original box. it'll be alot easier to sell if/when you decide to sell the processor some day.

well, it does have a value, but i agree with ozziegn, it would be in your best interests to keep it :D

Keep it. If anything bad should happen to your cpu, amd requires the stock hsf with the melted t.i.m pad intact (or whatever is left after you scrape it off the ihs) for warranty replacement :D

I'd pay $20 shipped for that heatsink if I already didnt have a couple of the most awesome HSF's (Thermalright XP-90C and Swiftech MCX6400-V)

Let's say you buy a retail AMD cpu and you don't use the included heatsink. What if you have to send the cpu & heatsink back to AMD? Will they see that the thermal pad on the factory heatsink has not been used and deny your warranty?

Or do you have to "melt" the pad a little to make them believe you used their heatsink?

lol, it isn't CSI dude, they aren't gonna test for semen stains on your processor or anything like that, you send it back with the hsf and they should warranty it no problem, any other heatsink can be amd approved, and amd can't just void your warranty because you didn't use their hsf, it's a monopoly law or something, similar to in automobiles, carmakers can't say that you have to go to their place to change your oil/do other maint. for your warranty to be intact, because that would kill any chance of other businesses making money

warranties aren't as hard to use as ppl make them sound, and they ARE there so you don't get screwed....u just gotta prove you bought it within the period, and your pretty much set

btw, i think that lapping the IHS like i have, will in fact, void the warranty :p but oh well....shit though, im kinda pissed i bought the retail cpu now that i ended up doing this because that was the whole point, to have a 3 year warranty :S

oh well, maybe they'll still accept it who knows
