I am looking to buy a quality headset, preferably with cups that enclose the ears, and surround sound capability. A mic is a must, and I want an audio jack on it so I can plug it into my soundcard instead of a crappy USB solution.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Willing to spend in the area of 150 bucks on them if neccessary.

make note that they are backordered. the Maker cant supply enough of them fast enough
So buy while you can off ebay off someone with a high rating

99.8% or better rating, with no current bad ratings

Don't get 5.1, total gimmick. Sennheiser PC150s are my recommendation.

the medusa 5.1's are actually supposed to be pretty damn good.
+ they come with an amp man!

+1

or i recommend the plantronic audio90s, some people will complain about durability, but i've been using mine for over four years. u also can't beat the price/performance ratio of these.

I have the Medusa's and Sennhieser pc 155's, the 5.1 is not a gimmick.

The Senn's are great sounding but the earcups are small and don't cover your ears so they get uncomfortable after a bit. the Medusa's are large and comfy and a sturdy construction.

If your a gamer you can't beat the Medusa's, great sound, comfortable, and the 5.1 directional really does work, nobody is able to sneak up on me let alone run around a map without me being able to pinpont them.

Only thing that would make the Medusa's better is a little heavier base output, they get a 9.5 outta 10 from me.

How do you hook the Medusas and a 5.1 speaker setup to the same card? So it is easy to switch between the two?

If you MUST use 5.1 phones, you should really get a pair that connects directly to the soundcard lineout. The amps included with these will probably make them sound worse.

However, I'd also recommend stereo, especially with an X-Fi soundcard.

Read this . Unfortunately, they don't include the Medusas in their roundup.
