200 GB Seagate ATA drive for 49.99 after 50 MIR at Fry's and Outpost

I ordered one. A bit lousy that I had to pay tax to my state, but with 2 day shipping, all said and done (taxes and shipping) it came to just under $9 more than the 160 GB Seagate I was eyeing at CompUSA for this week for (effectively) the same price of $50. And this one has $50 in one rebate rather than Comp's $70 in 3 rebates.

And I won't have to leave my house to get it.

Good luck with that Frys/Outpost rebate. The last couple from them that I have applied for have come back with "Store not authorized for that rebate"... YMMV. Don't buy anything with a rebate that you would be unhappy paying the non-rebate price for.

I spoke too soon. My order now reads backordered, even though it said in stock when I ordered it 6 hours ago. So I just cancelled it - I'm not going to risk that the sale will go through after the rebate period ends.

Blech, what a pain. Guess it's back to hoping I can snag a 160 GB at CompUSA. Too bad I could've HAD it by now if I had known Outpost had sold out. They need to update their web page more frequently.

Eh i did the last 200 gig $60 rebate thing from outpost. The rebate was from seagate. I got it 3 weeks after i filed it online, and sent in the barcode thing they gave me when i signed up for it online. The drive broke 3 days after i got it. So one week i got the drive back, next week i got the rebate.

the seagate/outpost stuff was becuase of the rebate company that they were using at the time. that has been worked out and my last seagate/frys rebate came back in the normal amount of time. 3-4 weeks.

SATA is still not in the mainstream for most of the US consumers. of course, us Hard members are using it. If you wait long enough, you'll see sata reboates. Seagate just had one on the 300gb SATA drivesa couple of weeks ago.

ordered it yesterday and status says "in progress"

hope this ships out by the 25 or im cancelling it

now i just need a cheap usb enclosure and im set

Like I said yesterday, I ordered mine in the afternoon, and by the evening it was listed as backordered, so I cancelled. Maybe you'll have better luck.

I wish I had a Fry's anywhere near me, but alas, no go in Connecticut. Too bad - the store is awesome.

So far seagate is 0 for 2 for me.

Ive purchased 2 seagate drives from Outpost both with rebates. I never received either of them.

I'm hoping you made copies of your packing slips and UPCs and called them up?

Building the RAID-5, w00t w00t.

Picked up one in Palo Alto, One on Outpost, had one from before, picked one more up in sac today (awesomest thing evar is that it was a return - most likely someone that didn't know how to install it (if it's bad I can just return or send to seagate with the 5 year warranty) but the guy marked it all the way down from $150 to $95 for me even after the sale has been over AND I got the rebate. NOICE.

Hmmm, I'm giving this thought. Seems the 120gb drive in my Series-II TiVo recently over flowed and deleted a bunch of my saved recordings... ticked me off. Not a huge priority, but something I'm giving thought to.

BTW, chances are if you make the PURCHASE before 11:59pm tomorrow you'll still qualify for the rebate. But if you're in doubt you could always contact Seagate/Outpost and find out for sure. ;)

OK, so I decided to be a nice guy and help out my fellow [H]'ers by calling and finding out the details, but my cell signal faded and I don't have time to call again. So it's time for someone else to be a sport and call for us.

Number = (800) 753-9823
(You might be able to hit 0 and get a CS agent. Else, IIRC it's 1,3 and then 0.)

I was only on hold for two minutes max.

Tell the CS agent that you have a question about promotion # 05-32808

Your question is "I'd like to take part in this promotion, but Outpost.com is currently backordered on these hard drives. I would like to know if I'd still qualify for the rebate if I ordered the drive before the end of the promotional period, even though it's on back order"

Or something to that effect...

Just make sure that the person on the other end of the phone clearly understands that the product is on BACK ORDER / NOT IN STOCK at the moment. Else you could be screwed.

As an additional safety measure, ask for the CS Agents name and make note of the date/time you called so that you can have something to fall back on later... just in case.

I went to Frys in Wilsonvillew and got one myself. There werent many on the shelf. The rebate slip expired today, sorry. It is also $10 more in the store, so I got mine for $59. Still, very good price. Worth it.

i doubt anyone would get the rebate if its on backorder

Your order has been cancelled per your request. Please note that you
have not been charged as we only do so upon shipping the order.

unfortunatly i dont have copies. i called em up about 6 weeks after i sent them in (bought the drives a week apart) and they told me they had no record of any rebates from me, but that may change within a couple weeks. called em a couple weeks later and still nothing, and told me there was nothing they could do for me.
