so yeah.. i've been an ATI groupie all my life, but finally gave in and bought myself a 7800gt. I know this thread is pointless without pics. but i promise them by tonight... i'm still in class and i cant wait to get home and put this crap in!
 
alright. i guess ill just use this thread for my new build.. sorry i dont have pics of the build... :( i didnt have my camera on me at the time...

don't mind that gay red fan. its the only one i had lying around. lol

If you look carefully, you can see a long screw sticking out. that's what holding up that red fan to cool my sticks of ram @ 3.3V. I guess it's one my cheezy mods that i thought of. hahahah I tried to fit a 120mm, but its WAY to big. i might just put a non-led 90mm fan to replace it.

why did i buy this instead of the gtx? i had a $100 gift card for microcenter and i didn't know what to buy. I was going to get the gtx, buy they sell it for $650!?!?! WTF!? so i got the GT for $450. 450-100 = $350 +tax. not bad i guess. :D

p.s. is it just me, but the stock hsf is freaking loud! :D i can't wait to get a nvidia bracket for my gpu waterblock. i hate fans!!

ha I think it is just you, seeing as your one of the only people who has the card as of now.
 
I noticed they didn't use the Delta Turbine fan on the GT like they did with the GTX. Probably to reduce costs, slap a Zalman cooler on that, you don't need a waterblock for an ice cold G70.

I know its early, but have you looked into unlocking the pipelines at all? If it were my card, the first thing I'd do is fire up rivatuner and see if they can't be unlocked.
 
Congrats on the new card and nice score. Think your card is missing an X though..lol jp :D

I doo not see that it's bad to miss 4 pipes and few hundred points. It's very very comperable to GTX.

I wonder if the pipelines are BIOS or Laser locked, but I think its the first if you can believe the Chinese site. Which version of Rivatuner are you using and does it even show the disabled pipelines? Can you post a screenshot of the Rivatuner page where the BIOS is read out and you see the table with all the pixel and vertex pipelines? Thanks a lot and congrats on your card! It´s definitly a kick ass card and I bet with good aftermarket cooling it should be a nice overclocker!
 
I bet you can unlock the pipes since the Chinese site managed to do it. Someone link him to that article!

i've enabled vertex unit 7 and pixel unit 3 and it actually came out as 24x1, 8vp. but after reboot, it reverted back to default..

you guys gotta help me out here a bit.. this is my first nvidia and i'm pretty in the dark. :(

Thanks for the screencap! Actually I remember that back in the day some 6800 cards (Revision 2 I think) also always reset themselves to their stock pipes/vertex after a reboot and there were 2 ways around that, modified BIOS flash with Nibitor and later on Unwinder released a new version of Rivatuner that worked again.

If you are too impatient to wait, you could take off the heatsink and check the GPU for a laser cut but the net will soon be full of reviews and hi-res pictures of the GPU and then we´ll see for sure whats the deal. I really think that you´ll need a BIOS mod at most and of course luck that the the remaining pipes/vertex aren´t damaged.

BTW, your case is really awesome! I love the light effect on the front!
 
I am glad its SLi capable. As I recall there was alot of speculation as to whether or not they would be.

only by dumb people I didnt really belive anyway...

That card is assome! I want one, all I read was the Bf2 benchmarks, 1600x1200 2x MSAA! sweet!!!!!!!! and if [H]ardocp ran 2gb of ram on there systems that lowest Framrate of 28 woul have been like 40 bringin the avrage up on all the cards they bench!
 
I could talk myself into an sli rig with two of these a lot easier than i could stomach the premium on a gtx sli rig.
