ASUS A8V Deluxe Secondary IDE issue

Hi guys.

To make this short, I've tried a lot of things that you may suggest, but do so anyway because I appreciate your help. Here's my basic problem. My secondary IDE port/controller only recognizes HARD DISK DRIVES in the Bios. It will not recognize Optical Drives. My primary does however. Here's my specs:

ASUS A8V Mobo
MAXTOR 250 gig PATA HS
Plextor SATA DVD Burner
ACER CD R/RW IDE
Mushkin RAM (1 gig)
AMD 3000+ Athalon CPU

That's probably all you need. The Plextor works because it's SATA and I have it plugged into a SATA port.


ANy clues as to why a secondary IDE channel wont recognize optical drives but DOES recognize HDDs?

Are you sure you are using the secondary IDE port?

I have an A8V, and it has 3 IDE ports. 2, blue and black, right next to each other, and a red one further away.

The red one is designed for RAID and will only support hard drives.
Blue / black are the "normal" ide ports.

Besides, (if you aren't talking about the RAID IDE) unless you need more than 2 optical drives, just put 2 on the main IDE, and put hard drives on the secondary.

Yes, I am using the 2ndary IDE. And, for some reason, my computer does not like having the master HDD on the secondary IDE, so that isnt an option. I was wondering if this is something tha tis fixable that Im overlooking or if I need to RMA this piece of sh!t.
