nVidia realeasing the power of 3

T Rush said:
yeah...those have been leaked for while...this "Power of 3" has to be something really "showy"

heres those drivers tho...

download> NVIDIA 80.40 Beta Forceware Driver

"Nvidia stated that Release 80 should fully-enable performance boost on dual-core systems, such as the Pentium D and Athlon 64 X2. Ben de Waal, VP of GPU Software was especially proud of that supposed achievement - such as a 20-30% boost in performance from new drivers alone - of course, in certain apps. Also, a lot of SLI related improvements are due,...."

and some other interesting things that those drivers give 'hints' to...

"nForce5" chipsets from Nvidia will have integrated graphics inside"

"Number of G72 and G72-related strings also can hide screamin' fast GeForce "7600"? Go and Quadro Go products."

"the new drivers feature support for H.264 encoding on the 7800 series of products. So yes, they do have a working PureVideo processor inside"

"nForce 5" is problably C51, suppose to be a cheap alternative, based off the nVidia 6 tech onboard card, they're saying 6200 performance, plus a 16X Express addon slot, good audio, SATA2 etc... we're hyping it up more then nVidia is, so it could be it, but i still dont see why it needs it own count down clock if thats it.

How is onboard 6200 not a good thing?
I would buy it for non-gaming PCs.

i never said it was bad, i just dont think it needs a count down timer for release. A motherboard, such as the C51, is hardly a new idea and seems rather boring. Not to mention it still doesnt explain what significance 3 matters. Although with the other thread of someone who works in a store and getting PNY 7800GTs in on 8-11, its quite possible they plan to triple launch products. C51 + 7800GT + ? (not an ultra)

i'll still stick with my package idea anyway.

I now predict The Power of 3 as this:

The average number of posts every [H]forum member will post in this thread before Aug 11th trying to guess what's up nVidia's sleeve.

Hehehe

SLI (2 GPUs) + onboard (1 GPU) = power of 3 (GPUs)

AFAIK, crossfire supports something like this, so its perfectly reasonable from nvidia to steal their idea and put it out on the market.

If NVIDIA is bringing it to the market next week, I don't think they got the idea from ATI. Maybe the other way around since Crossfire still does not exist.

Yeah that's one of the most sensible combinations. The only thing is that enthusiasts really won't care too much so why the hype? Not only that but that setup is only useful in SFR mode and the performance boost would be minimal anyway - AFR and SLI-AA won't really be feasible.

What's the use of 2x7800GTX + 6200 IGP when it comes to performance.?

I wonder if it's three different products/features or if it's three things working together - stupid Nvidia marketing!

 come on, we all know it's a game based on the Charmed TV series. [/sarcastic] :D

i was waiting for someone to call that

i was gonna post it earlier, but then i'd really show how much of a geek i was :p

The Power of 3 displays.

New 8x.xx drivers to enable 3 displays with SLI, etc... do some bad ass gaming (flight sims, surround), like Matrox Parhelia-plegic was supposed to do.

Or MAYBE a new super duper SLI board with 3 - PCIe 8x lanes / slots.

So they can sell you 3 videocards per board!! SLI has probably been a huge success for their high-end. With all the super high end crowd now buying 2 x $500+ videocards!!

Trush read my post
hmm which one?

I just have a hard time not thinking it isn't 3 GFX cards
the "...so don't buy old graphics for your PC"...tells me..nVidia wants me to get a new GFX card

reading back thru this thread...I do see something that was only brought up once
(and posted after the "no one got it yet"...and before "now someone did" window, pages 2,3,and 4)

Thats the add, hopefully some of your guesses will make more sense now that you know what the add says, not a graphics card though :).

Sounds like a Gillette comercial.

Im going to guess its some buy back program for all old graphics cards for credit toward new ones, or an SLI deal, as in board + 2 cards = savings. Not a new product though, thats my guess.
but I don't think nVidia would 'push' buy'n two cards at once....so the "buy back program" but how is that "the power of 3?...trade 3 cards for one powerfull one? almost can't be "trade"..as it says this "so don't buy old graphics"

or maybe

Sounds like a shot at ATI.

What could be so new? I will take a wild guess like the rest.

My guess is.... No idea.

Maybe it's the new C51(?) integrated graphics core.

Or maybe they are going to buy ATI :p

it just says "graphics" not "graphics card"....but I think its too soon for a new mobo...I doubt we will see one before socket M2

Hmmmm I hope they're bundling a 5Ghz A64 with that bad boy!!

I think it will be their multithreaded drivers that they announced they were working on a while ago. So X2 + GPU.
That would have been my guess except for two points brought up:

- For high-end, nVidia is pushing SLI. That IS 4 = 2 x GPU + 2 x CPU

- The final line in the banner reads "So don't buy old graphics for your PC"

Not many of the thing suggested involve BUYING something new.

If Zinn's summary is correct, and the emphasis on 'buying' something in the add is correct, it can be many things off this list:
Zinn said:
POSSIBLY Multi-monitor support for SLI
POSSIBLY Nforce chipset related
POSSIBLY SM 3.0 / SLI / HDR
POSSIBLY 3 Processors working together (1 GPU / 2 CPU dual core)
POSSIBLY New drivers
POSSIBLY Holy spirit infused into graphics card

PPS - An idea passed by that got me thinking of an INTERESTING possibility:

Using the onboard graphics in C51 (6200-level) in SLI. 6600GT + 6600GT + onboard 6200 = pretty durn powerful 'mainstream' performance.

Of course, nothing like that was posted before Brent said we had guess right, so...???

I hope I forget about this thread, Until they announce what the big suprise is.. (or the wait will probably kill me, Im not to patient) :(

how about A 7800GTX SLI PACKAGE DEAL WITH a Physics card

That would be pretty awesome, if the physics card was already established and supported by several games.

However its not it, Brent already said yesterday that someone guessed it right, its just that quite a lot of people were throwing around guesses so its hard to determine which is the correct one.

omg i think i kno it all makes perfect sense

it says all that stuff bout obsolete tech...then it says something directly at ATi:
"So don't buy old graphics for your pc."

the power of 3 was ATi 3dfx NVidia (in no order) for graphics cards
nvidia bought 3dfx 1st
now i bet they going to buy ATi

the power of 3 graphics card companies

ATi look out!

I highly doubt they will reveal a physics card, or a 3 gpu SLI variant of any kind (we've alread seen 4 cards in SLI prototypes so nothing new), but I am liking the charmed video game idea..(Mmmm... alyssa milano) lol. but for reals, I had bet it has somethign to do with the new product line... the 7800GT and maybe another version of the 7800.. or 7 series cards... so they'll have three versions... gosh, a super secret ultra version would be cool... hmmm...

arg! I hate things like this... sooooo much speculation. ...and you know they love the fact that we go nuts trying to figure it out also. heh...

As stated in the nvnews forums:

The power of 3:

SLI
SM 3.0
HDR

And the other comment is aimed directly at ATI.

You guys think too much :)

Oh hey - maybe the 7800GTX and the 7800GT plus a new nforce5 SLI chipset... maybe?

other than that, the sm3.0 + HDR + SLI theory is runner up for me. :D

EDIT: oh geez ... poster ^^ seems to have gone to the horses mouth... oh well. :p

CURLEY,MOE,LARRY
HUEY,DEWEY,LUEY
LARRY,DARRELL,DARRELL
SUPERMAN,JIMMY OLSEN,LOIS LANE
Thats the power of three. I think.
New card(7800 gtx),SLI, nVIDIA chipset......whoknows. I just want to play QUAKE 4.

removed - I was going to say somethign about the playstation 3 but that release is WAY off.

yeah - but word around the camp fire is they are going to smear it in ATIs face... or something like that.. with their new hardware which is now optimized for it... HDR mostly I think, because that struggled on the 6800 series gpus.

for the record x800 can also run HDR, nVidia just has the sli/sm3.0, so i really doubt that would be what they're going with. As someone said before, they're too big to need to make a countdown to smear the competitor.

To bad Brent had stated that someone had finally guessed it.

I wanted to through in this speculation, but you know it's not it based on Brent's confirmation.

Power of 3

CPU + GPU + PPU = 3

nVIDIA's joined an alliance with Ageia and is releasing a dual card with 1 GPU and 1 PPU that can be used with another regular GPU for SLI & PPU goodness.

HighTest, you beat me to it. I was just about to post this slightly varied version:

"Easy...

CPU
GPU > Power Of 3
PPU

Ageia and NVIDIA will announce a motherboard integration of the PhysX PPU chip :)

Ageia is a exhibitor @ QuakeCon 2005."

That would explain the lack of the R520 however Wall Street would have tipped us off long ago no?

yeah - that's probably right... I'm just going to stop guessing and wait 6 days.
:D

EDIT: one last though: http://www.techpowerup.com/index.php?4042

Maybe nVidia wants you to have 3 of their chipsets in every PC.
We have GPU and Motherboard now, network and audio are already on the mb.
Maybe they will introduce a nVidia CPU next :p

maybe 3 cards connected together ...

New version of SLi ?

Although it has already been stated ..

Well next week is gonna be interesting, as well as what ATi is going to have to counter attack ...

SLi , SM 3.0 and HDR is nothing special ..

So far none of your guesses are correct :p

NM, BJ goes on to explain that someone has guessed it between pgs 2 and 3 -- my vote is 1 GPU + Dual Core = 3.

Nvidia to offer Vista drivers with Beta 2 arrival

August 3, 2005 - 19:04 EST

Nvidia on Wednesday said that it will release a driver designed for its graphics cards running under Microsoft's Vista operating system as soon as the Beta 2 of the software becomes available. The company expects this version to become available "close to November" and update a corresponding Forceware driver simultaneously. According to Nvidia representatives, the driver will "fully" expose DirectX 10 functionality and also support "some" DRM features. (THG)

Maybe on the 11th they'll unveil this or something.

7800 (vanilla/GT/X)
7600 (vanilla/GT/X)
7200 (vanilla/GT/X)

This one was guessed a little before Brent said "yeah baby!" and it makes sense as they say "you wouldn't buy old..." so now you can buy newer cards instead of say a 6800GT because the 7600GT will be the "mid-range" card but actually be on par with the 6800GT, like the 6600GT was on par with the previous high end cards.
