Gonna start playing when im done upgrading my box. Got some friends on Bria, anyone else out there?

That game like all other MMORPG (for me at least) got really boring...alas I am a HUGE star wars fan and I still could not keep playing it. Hope you like it though, it was a good looking game!

Ya, i've heard its pretty grind intensive, but I guess you can also powerlevel, so hopefully all my high level friends will ease the pain ;)

I use to play SWG last summer.. Gorath Master Pistol, Doctor ect.

It was fun for a few months (even before JTLS) but besides even griding in space the game needs quite a bit of improvement. If you are dead set on playing it go ahead, but I would check out the alternatives in the genre which have more "polish" so to speak.

I played from launch all the way till the combat revamp...

Game is not bad and its definetly different than anything else out there. But the Combat Revamp changed everything and basically made it into EQ with a Star Wars Background, ruined the game for many. Now there seems to a mass exodus of players leaving the game.

Two things ruined what could have been a great MMORPG, jedi and the combat revamp.

Anyways I played on Chilastra, one of the more highly populated servers, and its getting pretty empty.

I hear the jedi complaint alot, reading the official forums. But honestly, if your gonna make a Star Wars MMO, it's gotta have jedi. Thats why I always thought it would be good to start the game at the end of EP 6. Let the game shape the story of the sequels.

Its not neccessarily the complaining, but the balance. Eventually everyone is going to achieve jedi and there will be no variation to the game. If Jedi were unlockable, but still in line with the rest of the professions in terms of abilites, then the game could have survived. But now everyone and their brother is Jedi, and there is no end in sight, since being jedi is vastly superior to not being one. You can not have an MMORPG without some sort of balance, and that is breaking rule one, since Jedi are about 5 other professions combined.

I'd never play another game by anyone that has anything to do with EQ. I think you'd be a lot happier with WoW unless you're just real horny for the Star Wars universe. WoW is basically all MMO's but improved. The battlegrounds they recently added are great and there's more to come. Just don't start on a pve server like I made the mistake of. I ended up restarting on the pvp server. Much more interesting.

I beta tested it but there was just too little to it then......and oh good did it take forever to get anywhere. So I would start mycharacter walking then go eat, crap and come back to find my characheter had gotten his ass kicked by a snail

Well ive already bought the total experience, so i guess i'll be able to formulate my own opinion soon enough. You guys are prolly all right, an im gonna freakin hate it ;)

Well one of my biggest gripesfrom beta testing has been addressed there are vehicles now....I think.

I also played SWG for a little over a year...to me, it was much more fun before creature mounts came about. I always played on Bria (started before it got to be the biggest server) and the players in there were always willing to help, group, etc. Almost nobody had anything and the game was hugely fun, if only because almost everyone was the same level of suck. :p

After all the nerfs and "revamps" by SOE, though...the game became crap. I actually thought it was still pretty decent up until vehicles, solo grouping, and JTL came about. They ruined the game. It really pissed me off seeing guys who just started the game having a full set of composite, speeder, pets (even after the CH nerf), and the best weapons money could buy...the game lost it's luster for me.

All anyone wanted to do after that point was grind for Jedi. I even tried out numerous guilds and they were the same. Little to no communication, very rare grouping ("nah, I'm trying to get glowy by next weekend..."), basically just using you for a lot so that they could make their city bigger. (which also pissed me off, btw. the free houses and/or money given out to newbs just to join a city/guild)

IDK, if you've never played it before and you come in now, not knowing how good it used to be, you might actually like it and stick around for a few months. But it gets old real fast...after the grind is done, there's no real content.

I heard the same gripes about WoW tho. Very little end game content etc. I figure for 25 bucks i couldnt go wrong. If it sucks, i guess itll be off to WoW. Of course theres also BF2 :D

It should be fun for a little while, but the now lack of community and originiality make it no different than your average MMORPG

Well, with Battlegrounds, the endgame content improved quite a bit. It's technically only two new "maps" but people have been going crazy over them. It's pretty innovative how they've combined various genres into MMO's. At first glance you wouldn't think PvP would be very deep, but with the addition of Battlegrounds, Blizzard's vision becomes much more clear. It has a little bit of RTS, FPS, PvE MMO, and PvP MMO all rolled into one (or two).

Also, the endgame PvE content is all in perspective. For instance, the biggest dungeon (we call them instances) is Molten Core. It requires 40 people to do. Leveling a character, getting into a guild to go to MC, getting decent equipment to survive in MC, getting in the MC roster, and finally getting your feet wet in MC takes months. Actually going there enough to get what you want or to even see the end of it might not even ever happen for you (as it doesn't for most players). Large guilds spend months working on teamwork and strategies to progress in Molten Core.

There's also Onyxia's Lair, which also takes 40 people but is much shorter.

Next big content patch will have a new 40 person dungeon which is the first tier two raid dungeon, Blackwing Lair. Onyxia's Lair and MC are both tier one. There are supposedly going to be eventually be seven tiers. So it's reasonable to assume that thing is going to take a while to figure out and beat even for the very big and experienced guilds.

All in all, things are looking up for WoW in a big way. It took them a very long and rocky time to get to this point, so if you're just signing up, you're reaping all the benefits while not having to sit through all the crap many of us longer time players have. There's definitely room for improvement, but nothing stupidly huge and gamebreaking imbalances like say... jedi.

I really enjoy the capture the flag battleground. It's like the fps games but it's not all twitch reflexes like them. It's paced fast enough to never be boring but it's paced slow enough that you can think and form strategies. Plus the diversity and balance of the characters adds a whole different dimension. You develop different strategies for each class. It's only going to get better. It's great doing quests for a while and then taking a break and doing some battlegrounds.

I recommend a pvp server as well because it allows for spontaneity and diversity when questing. There's nothing like getting attacked while fighting a mob only to defeat that player. I'm just really impressed with the game and looking forward to future content. I played EQ and DAOC and those aren't even near this level. This game has some problems but nothing major and it's very polished.

The balance, quests, maps, layout & overall design of WOW far surpasses anything SWG has to offer. I played SWG for about a year and in the end there really is no content. It has a great core to it chararcter customization, professions & crafting but no content especially at the end game. The few "dungeons" available really suck and and most of the quest are just irrelevant. / end rant :p

I will admit now though with the numerous patches of SWG it is larger and has more content than WoW, but is still not as polished.

Don't get me wrong WoW is a good game, but for hardcore PvP players, the game is beginning to sputter along at 60. The honor system is definetly still not where it needs to be, and still turns this into giant zergs. At least on Arthas it is, the endgame for powergamers is drying up and its now a waiting game for the next MMORPG.

Another problem I have is time. I can prolly only muster a couple hours a night. Which i'm sure in that region you'll all say go play WoW anyways ;) Imma try SWG since i did buy it, but i'll certainly keep WoW in mind if it really does blow.

You can level in SWG much faster, not as fast as you use to, but still faster than WoW...

Both are relatively short grinds compared to other MMORPGS

Thats what i need, something that won't suck my life away. Hey if it sucks, im only out 25 bucks, and i can always move onto WoW or BF

Well good luck finding another MMO this balanced in pvp. Battlegrounds are great and more are on the way amd pve is getting some massive additions for high-end content. This is all without ever having an expansion pack to buy. Imagine what an expansion will be like.

Thats one thing that really impressed me about WoW. The two other techs I work with both play WoW, and they keep getting all this content, with no extra cost. One thing I don't like about WoW is the bittorrent like network they use to distro the patch. SWG is the base game and two expansions now. But its only 30, and you get a non craftable item thats goin for about 5 million cred.

I've really never played a PvP environment in an MMO, so I guess to me its not a issue.

As a note, I'd like to add to what someone else said...the grind in SWG really isn't that long for any of the regular professions.

If you know what you're doing you can max out almost any profession in a week or even less, especially after you've gotten a hang of the game.

The only profession this used to not be true with was Bounty Hunter (which I made the mistake of being)...it took FOREVER to become a Master BH due to the insanely long and buggy BH missions. They helped it out with a few revamps, though.

The problem with that is, you're still going to suck at PvP, even if you're a master combat profession. The game became so much about having really high resist composite (the only armor worth anything), a nice DOT weapon, 12 pt chef foods and/or spices, and doctor and entertainer buffs. If you're a casual gamer, even with a master combat profession you're gonna get your ass kicked left and right to the people who take the time to find all these things and know how to use them. Seriously, the setup time required just to PvP was about an hour due to long buff lines, having to go declare, etc etc

There is still one grind now that's insanely long, btw. JEDI. When I left it was set up to take an absolute minimum of (I believe) 6 weeks just to get to Padawan level after you went through the time to get glowy and visited by the Old Man. The whole Jedi process would take a year or so for a pretty hardcore gamer to Master, unless you had some free unlocks due to having a Jedi before the revamp.

I've read on numerous occasions that jedi was insane, but I guess its to attempt to discourage people from grinding it. I honestly dont know if ill attempt jedi or not, I guess first ill have to figure out if i actually like the game or not. I dont mind grind intensive classes, as long as i can go out and break up the monotony with quests and such. In FF, you couldnt do anything worth your time without at LEAST a full party, and a properly config'd one at that.

Another one from Chilastra..

Master Rifleman/Master Combat Medic with 0204 Pistol and a great bit of Force Sensitive (nearly three full trees). Just been doing the grind and killing the hard stuff.

p.s. SWG has had alot of people in the last month - it's really nice to see things booming again.

After playing a Paladin in EQ2 up to level 32, I stopped and have switched gears to BF2 and last night I finally started playing WoW. I rolled a Troll Warrior on Deathspear and Paladin on some other random server. The one thing that struck me immediately is the vibrant colors in WoW. With the new vid card in my rig I cranked up the resolution to 1600x12000 and turned every single draw distance and video setting to high and WOW (not WoW hehe) does it look pretty good!

I can't speak on gameplay because hell I have only put 20-30 minutes into it.

Bloodfin player here... Currently Master Bounty Hunter, Master Carbineer & 5 branches of Force Sensative. I don't think I'm going to go Jedi, but I will continue to unlock FS trees. I can use the skill mods to better my Bounty Hunter skills and be able to contend with more Jedi.

I played on Bloodfin too when the game was released. We actually had the first guild hall...Noobians were our name. Shortly after plopping the GH on Tatooine, we picked up shop and moved to Naboo. Everyone got fed up with the game play issues shortly thereafter and we moved back to DAoC en masse.

I have 2 characters on Valcyn that I play pretty often (Shipwright/smuggler & Bounty Hunter/Combat Medic). I tried EQ2 and WoW but, with EQ2 all it is is Leveling, WoW just couldn't get in to it don't know why, tried really hard to. SWG has it flaws ok alot of them, but the crafting system is second to none and the combat upgrade which most bitch about, I actually like. I does feel kinda like EQ2 now but the flexablility of the the proffesions are nice that you don't have to reroll your character evertime you get tired of the prof or it gets rendered useless. Also being able to mix and match proffesions to create you own character is nice. You can customize your character so that he/she is completely unique unlike EQ2 and WoW where basically everyone looks the same they all have theh same skills and basically the same equipment.

Besides what is more fun then playing gank the Padwon. SWG Between the ground game and JTL which is twiched based space combat there is alot todo. What I like also is that you are not level restrained from areas like other MMORPGs and there is no group debt if some jack ass decides to do and area attack and pulls the entire mob on to the group.

There are days I love the game and there are days that I hate the game. It may not look as good as EQ2 or play as well as WoW. But if you are tired of the anceint fantasy MMO, SWG is a good alternitave.

I used to be hardcore into SWG. When it first came out it was the greatest game ever created. There were no jedis. It was all about owning a house and killing shit. I remember sitting on the porch of my house and killing shit as it walked by lol. I just wish I could go back to when it first came out. The game is a shadow of its formal self.

Not me but ive heard alot about that guy lol. Im from Radiant and Wanderhome. When I beta'd for mxo I used to get tells saying "from chilastra right?" lol. Some people were even pissed off at me because they thought I was that guy.

I have two characters on Valcyn. Nastysavage and Mercyful. I am just starting to creep back into it, though I cancelled my order for Rage of the Wookies. I didn't feel there was enough content to justify the price. I'll wait for the next expansion and get it for free when they just add it on.

You canceled it? RotW is a very worthy expansion... my proton carbine. There are tons of quests, quests that are actually fun and interesting, and the planet is designed pretty damn well.

For the next expansion I'd like to see Hoth and Dagobah. Have Hoth as one huge PvP battleground with bases and stuff to capture, much like battlegrounds in WoW. Have pilotable Snow speeders, pilotable ATATs & ATSTs, Taun Tauns (sp?) destroyable bases, and objective based quests to help your faction sway the battleground.

Lol, I guess I should have figure it out, with the lack of flames in your posts

I have a Dark Jedi Knight on Valcyn server..my account is turning 2 years old in a couple days.
