There's a guy by the name of David Riches (rmenkins) and such going around offerring people the 2405FP for $750 shipped. He asks you to pay via Western Union, but do not fall for it.

He's already scammed AT LEAST 4 people with this for over $2000 worth of money! If anyone else has been scammed by this guy, contact me - we have a complaint filed with the FBI - this is serious.

Thanks,
Andy

... and always remember that if it seems too good to be true....

Ah, that dude contacted me. Good thing I didn't go for it. I have his MSN if you want it.

Yeah he contacted me too, But I lucked out didnt have the money to send him... :D

He contacted me as well. He came VERY close to conning me out of the money. I was suspicious of him so I demanded that we use an escrow for protection which he refused to do.

Just got mine yesterday. I have to say that I love it thus far and it is so much larger than my 2005fpw. I can't wait to try ut2k4 on it.

Ordered mine Saturday. Got here yesterday. As a monitor, this thing is incredible. We hooked it up to my wife's Apple G4 at work when it came in, and her 20" Apple display was both dwarfed and outshined.

On my PC at home, it's incredible. My 5900FX has no issues running in 1920x1200, and even WoW is running in widescreen without issues with this card. I'm sure the high end guys here might be able to see some flaws, but the card hasn't hiccuped yet at this resolution. My point is that those with less than cutting edge cards shouldn't overworry about buying this monitor.

So far, I'm not totally blown away by the component response to HDTV, but from the proper viewing distance, it looks pretty darn good.

Did anyone else buy different component cables and get slightly better PQ out of it?

DVDs via the computer looks great, and downloaded HD material is stunning as well. The Dust to Glory trailer from the WMP site is incredible. Just the PQ from the cable box seems to be suffering. Still looks notably better than SDTV though.

Bottom line is that I'm very impressed, and I'm thrilled to be able to watch TV and work at the same time. Not productive, but fun. :)

Anyone who has advice on how to get the best PQ from HDTV via component...I'm all ears.

Thanks.

I actually already ordered some Python component cables, but I'm wondering if anyone else has seen a marked difference between the component cables that came with the monitor, and retail offerings.

I'm hoping there is a difference. I may be slightly more picky. I was a commercial television and film producer for years, and I'm very discerning when it comes to video. I know not to overexpect in the case of the 2405, but it'd be nice to get a slightly better picture...

I've had this display since it was first available. Revision A01. My unit is not perfect (slight backlight bleed upper left extreme corner, couple stuck pixels). However, it is by far the best Dell display I've owned. And I've had 2001FP, 2000FP, and 2005FPW. This was money well spent.

you may also need to get a signal booster for rhe cable box

HD signals *should* be all or nothing, correct? I'm not sure how that works with the component inputs. For HDMI I'm pretty sure this is the case.

SD reception is fine on a regular TV, and the cable modem speed from the split hasn't changed.

I think it's either the cables or the monitor. Dunno for sure though...

The "all or nothing" concept applies for all DIGITAL signals. As good as component may be, it's still not digital. I remember I had a set of really crappy component cables and the picture looked quite heavy on the red. I got a set of Monster component cables (they were horribly expensive; I can't imagine myself spending that much money on a set of cables ever again) and the picture is totally crystal clear. The only digital ("all or nothing") connectors are HDMI and DVI.

Hope that helps.

It does, and I appreciate it. From the cable end though, an amplifier won't help, will it? I'm seeing the picture fine, but having issues much like those you mentioned above.

Crossing my fingers that the cables will help out...

Well, personally I've never had the need to "amplify" any of my component signals (in fact, I didn't even know it was possible). The only signal in my house that's amplified is the one coming from the cable company, and it's using their own 4-port splitter/amplifier box.

I'd wait until the new cables come in before looking at any sort of amplification solution.

anyone have the link to the page in this thread where we were talking about ATI cards having a stronger DVI signal than nVidia cards?

I just ordered one for $959, didn't take the $899 deal for some reason. First flat panel and first Dell product for me ever....had been looking to buy a large flat panel for ages now and saw this sale and couldn't pass up on it.

I cheaped out on the shipping, so it won't be here till mid-next week at the soonest, but I'm still siked for it! :)

Now, will my 9800XT be able to play any games on it....I hope so (I imagine HL2, UT2k4, and a few others being cake).

You will be happy with your new LCD and it will get you thinking about upgrading your video card once you start playing at 1900x 1200!

It's actually the first part of the new system I'm building later this month....so I'll definitely be getting a new graphics card.

Ahhh! Why did I select the slowass shipping?!

I also selected the free shipping and it was surprisingly fast.

edit: Just researched and it was 3 business days.

Well I ordered mine Saturday and using slow ass shipping it got here Wednesday night. Words really can't describe this amazing monitor.

Best of luck to you on your monitor. Mine has no dead or stuck pixels that I can tell, even after running Check Screen for around twenty minutes checking for them. Only very slight backlight bleeding in the lower right hand corner, and I only notice it in a pure black screen. Haven't been able to test the other inputs yet, but I'll get back to you on that.

So I just found a coupon that would make it $70 less than what I paid. I just ordered this thing Saturday!

Anyway, it shipped out Monday. But I can't find any tracking number for it. Where do I look for it on Dell's site? It's not on the order status page.

Would you mind sharing that coupon with a fellow Member? :D ;)

25% off Dell 2405FPW 24" LCD: $?JSFR8X2349BV (Exp 6/18, 500 uses)

2% off with Dell Preferred Account: GWR45ZNS3L5SB4

It's a stackable coupon.20% off because I'm already a dell home customer and then a second 25% off code $?JSFR8X2349BV

Dell Order Status sucks. Mine was shipped 4/23/2005 and I got it the next day. It still shows In transit to local carrier on the website. Unlees you ordered other than cheapest shipping, it'll be shipped by DHL. Can't help you any more than that.

Dude if I could get those for 45% off + DPA + -$ stacking, I'd resell them on eBay. I'm pretty sure that the 25% replaces the 20%, and then you get the + DPA discount + any stacking coupons.

I don't want to go into it because it's like everytime I see a good deal, I mull it over and by the time I decide to buy the deal is gone. Well the 20% coupon was going to expire so I just bought it. Next thing ya know they have a 25% of coupon the next day wtf!

Anyway, I got an email from dell that has all accesories for 20% off. The 2405fpw is included. So it's 20% off the 2405fpw bringing the price to $959. I then added the 25% off coupon and it brought the price to $899.

I paid $1040 w/tax. After the two coupons the price for me today would have been $$970 w/tax. Just shoot me. :(

omg, its him. Damn, i got scammed. Man i m a sucker. Guess dats my money byebye.
But hey , Rmenkins, if ur reading this, i ll let u make profit. on top of wat i sent u, if u send me the monitor i will add a few more~!! so we both be happy~!

I guess i was just been naive.. I kinda knew risk right from the beginning and i took it.
that make me a sucker.

so how many people bought it from him?
hes really friendly though...

anyway,
i ll leave a happy ending for my msg.
just bought the HP L2335.....the colour were same as the print out, i did not hav to adjust or anythin. watching video was soso... like i said in the other thread..i think no LCD has the ability to produce a liquid smooth display. 60hz is kinda low....wish they would make 100+ hz ....dat ll b cool.
i was so hopin to get the 2405fpw, n they were out of stock here over at new zealand...
infact, u cannot get it around this bottom part of hemisphere...

sigh.....mm....not gonna sleep well 2nite ><

So I got an email sayingl, "Estimated Ship Date: Friday, June 24, 2005"

Does that mean I'll get the package at June 24 or Dell will ship it at June 24?

I have had a long ship date every time ordering from Dell and have received my orders in 3 or 4 business days.
