holy shiat, how much did that thing cost you??

It's an Alienware box, you can configure the exact same thing at their site, minus the monitor. Around 7,315.00 for the box 2,999.00 for the Apple monitor. Looking close to 11,000 for that setup.

neither have i. the most costly thing was the 2 video cards and the 2 dell 2405fpw's. they paid for it, not me.

why put your computer right between your leggs?

The chassis is far enough back in the corner that my feet/chair don't bump into it. Also, I like my workstation located in front and below me, so I can lean down quckly to burn a set of DVDs or hot-swap my video/edit drives. And no, my gonads haven't fallen off yet, nor do they glow in the dark . . . at least not yet!

;->

what motherboards are you guys using? i would like to start a dually for myself and have checked new egg and xeon motherboards and cannot decide which one i would use, any suggestions? has i am on a tight budget i would like something fairly inexpensive, but yet upgradable in the future, or if anyone has one they would like to trade or sell.. pm me

Onboard lan, sound.

Currently running as a firewall.

I've kept her around just for the memories. After eleven years, everything remains stock and fully operational. Compared to today's meltdown cycles, these dual Pentium/133 CPUs need just a little cooling-- a VERY little! Moreover, the case intake fan is only 80mm, and the single exhaust point is the 80mm power supply fan! There are more photos on my website:

Yeah I have a volcano 12, yes volcano 12 on a p3 with artic silver. I get 28c on the core. It's the coldest running processor ever. I can't believe it. Good thing I am spending 100 bucks on its twin cpus volcano and case fans -.- Oh well it will roar and blaze up my room with led fans. It'll be a fun time.

Thanks for quoting all those pictures, so we may view them again, so you may say your 2 line comment.

im confused, if those are xeons, why do they look like teh old SEC processors?

Those are my old chariots . . . this is my current ride:

A required move in order to render stuff like this relatively quickly:

gotcha. so what flavor xeons are those? some of the higher end pIII xeons im guessing? why do you have a modern graphics card on em?

edit: ah, pIIIs. checked out your site

Thats a really kickass case btw, is it available today?

I'm sorry, but I don't have the slightest idea who made that case or its present availability. It is extremely tall and very, very heavy . . . plenty of drive bays too!

I've already mounted the Radiator for the single P4 setup ... I'll just exchange Mobo & CPU (Abit AS8 + 530/540), everything else stays where it's now

quick question: im just wondering..what types of things can you do with dual like...133mhz pentiums? i dont know much, but i would have guessed not much..

i dont wanna be mean, im just wondering :)

Firewall, low end static web page server, small scale file server. lots of options really.

...give it to me, you know, stuff like that.

Really I fold with mine most of the time just for pointage, its existance is for my lan parties as a server. It goes into the pits the 14th, hopefully it survives.

My old case for my dual Opteron 242:

tcm3-800x600.jpg

I moved the system into a rackmount case, and have it in my rack now. The bottom rack mount case is my dual Opteron, and the black rackmount case on top of it is my dual PIII-500 system.

rack2.jpg

The top pictures are a little old, but the newer rack-based version of the system is:
Dual Opteron 242, on a Tyan 2895, with 2BG ECC Reg memory (PC2700), 2 Seagate 80GB in RAID1 on a 3Ware SATA card, and a GeForce6800GT AGP. The system runs Gentoo Linux (2005.0 64-bit AMD64).

uname -a:
Linux tcm.lan 2.6.11-gentoo-r6 #3 SMP Sat Apr 23 18:40:11 EDT 2005 x86_64 AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 242 AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux

Please be aware that the pictures were taken by via crappy webcam, but they did come out good some.

You will see in the picture a closeup view of the system, the lower left of this system is the two slot2 terminator cards, the upper left is the two P3 xeon 700mhz 2mb cache processors.

The thing in the middle is the memory riser card, which has 1gb of pc100 occupying 8 slots on the riser board. It can max out to: 12gb of pc100 ecc memory, and the processors can max out to 4x 900mhz 2mb p3 xeon processors.

The second picture is of my mod that is going on top of my quad server, using acrylic and another of the same motherboard, I shall have two quad p3 xeon units built together.
This pictures is hosted off of my website picture gallery.

I got a better rackmount case (my old one was a POS). While I was at it I figured I should take some pictures:

I had some dusty pictures in this thread earlier, and since I've cleaned the board I use most often I thought I'd post a shot of it. All fans are taken off for cleaning. Its going into a new case I'm building with a worklog in the case modding forum. I'll probably post a few pictures here after the case is complete, which may be a while given all of the delays I'm experiencing...
