Alrite i just installed my motherboard and im using a kinda cheap psu 480 watt generic.. but its keeping good volts on the lines. But once it start to go play games it works for about 5 seconds and then just locks and speakers jsut squeal at extermly high pitch....which requires me a restart

i might have pluged too many hard drives into the line that the video card is in..awaiting a new psu coming in the mail

Psu i ordered is : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817104934

I was gonna say, off it. Via is... less than stellar.

Probably something to do with their chipset drivers or something.

Via doesn't make bad chips - the don't OC as well as some of the Nvidia, but by and large they're rock solid. Obviously there are situations where some people have sporatic issues with the chipset, but there's a damn good reason why VIA chipset boards are found in businesses more often than Nvidia ones. This isn't to say that Nvidia chipsets are inherantly unstable, but simply that they are known to be somewhat more problematic when managing a couple hundred or so of them.

i had latest drivers , bios lowerd ram speed still did it.. so i gave up
sold it off saying it was just a problem with my specific ram

haha...always a good solution ;).

crap... just bought my A8V Deluxe and plan to install it tonight!
though for my luck i didn't bought from him...

it is true that via core logics are very problematic, and should not be recommended for consumer use. this bank install mapping, and correct bios options, which should have been enabled anyways, can hopefully alleviate your issues. i only noted the options that needed to be changed. all other bios opiotss if enabled, or disabled are set to the correct default setting.

first install memory in dimm banks a2, b2 pg 2-3 manual. i do know that the manual states to place the installed memory in a1, b1. trust me and it will still be dual channel (this is advisory from ram guy at corsair). when you change anything with this motherboard you MUST TOGGLE OFF THE POWER AND PULL THE PLUG.

bios options:
if you have change anything in the bios, you will need to change them back to defaults. toggle the power , pull the plug and short clear cmos. you do not have to remove the battery (pg. 2-18). the options that i advise you to change are based on the fact that particular ones are in the state they need to be.

pg 4-12 to 14
disable smart monitor, unless you will be using a smart monitor app
enable 32bit transfer

pg 4-16 to 18
enable bank interleaving
disable 2t command

pg 4-21 to 22
set to no search for mda resources
128MB graphics aperature size
enable agp 3.0 calibration cycle

pg 4-22
enable pci delay transaction

pg 4-26
32 pci latency timer

pg 4-27
manual ai overclocker
2.6v ddr voltage (you may need to set at 2.7v)
66/33 mhz agp/pci
since you have ati, the agp voltage will need to be set to 1.6v

pg 4-29
if you have a sound card and do not use the integral sound then disabled this feature
disable speech post reporter

pg 4-30
select the power state mode, personally the best power saving is turn it off. if you want suspend to ram (s3) you need to set it here. this must be enable before os install.
yes acpi 2.0 support
enable acpi/apic support

pg 4-31
disable power management/apm (apic is more robust and modern power management with pnp. apm is legacy and has long ago been abandoned)

these are the most important options to set. you will need to set the other devices as you see fit for i do not know which you will be using e.g. com port. pg4-24

as for the operating system install, you must slipstream service pack two or haev a service pack two install handy. this will install the uagp 3.0 driver. when you use the latest hyperion drivers it will only install the via bridge inf's. all other drivers are included with winxp.
