A 12-watt fan? Really?

Just wondering, has anyone seen this fan? Has anyone heard of a 12 watt fan? Even Panaflows are only about 6 watts max.

Coolermaster 120mm AAF-B12-E1 Aluminum Fan

What would happen if I tried connecting a 12-watt fan (assuming that's correct) to a controller only able to power a 5-watt fan?

More than likely the transistor on the controller would die, at which point you replace it with something a bit more meaty witha nice heatsink and keep on truckin :)

Well, that fan is a load of rubbish. 56 CFM from a 120*120*38 fan and it needs 12 watts? My 131 CFM 120*120*38 YS Tech fan only uses like 9 watts.

I think the main thing to note is its 12W max, as in, it will prob never draw that much except when starting up, so as far as the op is concerned it is a non-isssue, because the trannys in the fan controller will prob be spec for far more than 5W, just not heatsinked.

On the topic of 'have i heard of a 12w fan?' well then yer. My 92mm tornado is 12.5w and i power it off my sunbeam rheobus rather nicely (can handle 20w per channel). If you plug something thats rated more than what you plug it into, you just asking for trouble.

BTW, you can get like 30w 120mm fans :) 220cfm at 65db yay

I just liked the noise level. 56 CFM at 23 dB. Not too shabby. And (okay, I'll admit it) I liked the aluminum frame. Guess I'll go back to shopping before I risk frying a fan controller.

Any suggestions?
Requirements (in order of importance):
120mm
5 Watts maximum
Good airflow
Quiet
Preferably aluminum frame
I could care less about LEDs... I'll just end up ripping them out anyway.

Damn, I still want one.
why? what do you want to do with it.

i have some FFB0912EHEs and FFB0812EHEs as well as a tornado 92mm that i not longer use because of their noise level. if you want a really high output fan, i could easily sell one or two. i'm about 45 minutes away from downtown hamilton along highway 6. PM me if you're interested.

I want it because of the pure fact of 220cfm, could make a portable fan out of it for hot days at school or something. :D

I'd like to see your teachers reaction when you turn on something as loud as a ye olde vaccum cleaner in the middle of class, or yours for that matter.

I'll overvolt it, make sure it is at least 75dba

And 65 dB * 1 = 65 dB, therefore 65 dB * 3 = some number > 65 dB, probably 70 or 80 dB. That's friggin absurd dude, that's like a pair of drunk midgets having a perpetual drunken barfight under your desk.
