I would agree with you on Dell Desktops. Notebooks are an entirely different story.

EDIT: I am refering to quality.
 
Yeah it's with a $250 coupon. Plus there seems to be a free memory upgrade from 256 to 512.
 
My needs are pretty minimal I'm just trying to get the best machine I can get for < $1000.

Why not save some cash and get an older machine? Like a T3x series from IBM or something...
